The best way to get your nutrition from the food you eat., August 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Jean Carper's Total Nutrition Guide/Complete and Up-To-Date Based on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's New Scientific Analysis of the Vital nutrien (Paperback)
This is a unique book. If you believe that food is the best to get your vitamins and minerals this is the book for you. This book dedicates a chapter to each of the vitamins and minerals and and tells about its benefits. At the end of each chapter there are one hundred food items listed in the order of the maximum amount of that chapter's featured nutrient. The first item listed has the most of the vitamin or mineral through the food with the least. It also tells the amount of that food you need to eat to get the described amount of the vitamin or mineral. As well, it gives the calorie count on the item.
An example would be "so many ounces" of beef liver would give you "this amount" vitamin A, with a calorie count of "this much." Or in the chapter on "Fiber" this example: one quarter cup of dried prunes would give you "this amount" of fiber with "this calorie count." It helps the reader plan for good nutrition by enabling them to see where the nutrients are and how many calories each carries.
This book is so clear that it is useful to the beginner as well as those who have spent years studying nutrition. Having this book for a reference is a benefit to planning food shopping and meals, which assure getting the nutrition needed from food.
