Having used the third edition on many an occasion, i was dismayed to find the 5th edition so inferior---no nutritional assessment tools are included at all, and of course then, no discussion whatever of the validity and reliability of various screening methods. No discussion of HOW to do a proper 24 hour diet recall, just the listing of it in the assessment process. i was further disappointed to read the statement that babies should be breastfed until the age of one year: the AAP recommendation reads "for AT LEAST one year."

This was a required supplement text in nursing school and I was eager to review it as I previously worked as a registered dietitian. I was disappointed in this book because I felt it really dumbed-down the nutritional information needed by professionals. I realize that the target audience for this book is nurses and not registered dietitians however I believe this book really missed the mark on giving useful medication nutritional therapy advice. Today many nurses find themselves in the position to provide some form of nutritional counseling therefore, nurses need to have better training on medical nutritional therapy. I know that the American Dietetic Association offers better books of much better quality, presentation, and usefulness. This book was also boring which was unfortunate because nutrition is a dynamic and interesting field of study.

This book was needed for a class I took. I paid less than what the bookstore on campus was asking. It arrived as promised and I was very satisfied.

I purchased this because it was supposed to be the sixth edition, but what I got was the 5th edition. The seller did issue a refund after arguing with me via e-mail about it being the correct text when clearly it wasn't. Very unprofessional.

Well, this book is on my "required text" list but there is no mention of its use anywhere in the Syllabus now that they've given us one. However, the book arrived promptly and in great shape! I find it interesting enough to keep...even if Tri-C doesn't make us future RN's use it. Hey, at least I didn't pay the college book costs! Go Amazon.
