Book Description

This is the eBook of the printed book and may not include any media, website access codes, or print supplements that may come packaged with the bound book.

With a new Consumerism chapter, enhanced art and photos, and timely updates, this Second Edition of Nutrition and You personalizes nutrition–helping you make healthy nutrition choices and encouraging you to become an informed consumer of nutrition information.

Throughout, each vitamin and mineral are introduced in self-contained spreads, called Visual Summary Tables, that help you learn to identify the key aspects of each nutrient at a glance. You’re encouraged to relate the science of nutrition to your own dietary habits, helping you to separate fact from fiction and to distinguish high-quality nutrient sources from those of lesser quality. After reading this book, you’ll know to think critically about information sources and the claims made in the popular press and online.

The MyPlate Edition features a write-to-fit update so that you have the latest nutrition information right within your book.  New information includes the new MyPlate graphic (which replaces the former MyPyramid), the 2010 Guidelines, and the new Dietary Reference Intakes.

3.0 out of 5 stars The book has been updated February 4, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Last year the USDA updated the food groups again. If you purchase the book new you will get an insert with the updated "myplate" info. The used book does not contain the updated information so I'm having to go online to get the information I need for class. It is worth the savings to buy it used and go online for the myplate stuff I need for class.

5.0 out of 5 stars well written with good visuals March 19, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this book for a course and it is very well written. This is a massive amount of information but the book walks through each section nicely. There are numerous visuals to go with each group of information. I think some of the anatomy ones could be better, bigger and clearer but for the most part these are very well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, just what I needed! October 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is a wonderful and easy supplement to the nutrition course I am currently taking. It makes what may seem potentially complicated terms very easy to understand, and has wonderful practice assignments to supplement the reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! September 17, 2012

Excellent nutrition book! Easy to read and understand. Even if it wasn't purchased for a class, it would have been a very comprehendable text.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not order this book new. February 5, 2014
By D S
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I typically try to be cordial on reviews. When I see phrases in all caps, I imagine some delirious person who more than likely did not read the instructions. Well, I must admit, I read the directions and took a calculated risk. It did not work in my favor, however. I have purchased books on Amazon for 5 semesters now. I have yet to have any issue with it, until this book. I will say that once again, Amazon gets 5 stars for their customer service and attempting to help me, but this product is not worth the purchase.

The single most important thing in text books today: the online access code. Without this, many text books are no better than weights in your already strained backpack. I purchased this because so many people said it worked for them while only a couple it did not. I, again, took a chance hoping this would work out for me. However, the code did not work. Amazon sent me another book/code, but honestly, I simply sent it back because it was in the same exact packaging. The ISBN on the shrink wrap of the book is different than the ISBN of the book itself. Utilizing the campus bookstore online, I double checked that, in fact, I ordered the correct ISBN, but for what ever reason, (neither Pearson or Amazon could explain) the access code did not work. I presume it has something to do with the ISBN's being different. Why it would work for some and not others is a mystery.

I ended up spending another $42 for the online access and $16 for the MyDietAnalysis access. If I say anything in caps, it is this: RENT OR BUY THIS BOOK USED. Then pay for whatever online access your professor requires. I fortunately had money in the bank to just say screw it and make the purchase, but if you're a starving college student, do not buy it new.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast & Friendly Service November 5, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I purchased this book for a class I started a week ago. The school wanted $156 for this book and I found it here for only $0.50. Yes, I couldn't believe the price of the book when I first see it, I had to double check it because I couldn't believe my eyes. I just received my book today; rapid service. This book is in excellent condition. There are no visible marks or rips on the book. It practically looked like I just walked in the bookstore and purchased it. I'm very satisfied with my purchase and I recommend this seller to anyone. Nutrition and You

1.0 out of 5 stars Shady seller...do not buy from them!! February 3, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book was supposed to come with an online code but the code was expired. When we tried to get a valid code, the seller said they had another book for twice the price we could buy. This seller is shady and we won't be using them again. No customer service, false advertising and do not back their items. I will be spreading the word about them to all my fellow students. Shady seller and terrible customer service.
