Very comprehensive,

This review is from: Nutritional Balancing and Hair Mineral Analysis (Paperback)
I had a hair analysis done by Dr. Wilson and I also purchased this book. After years of trying to figure out what was wrong with me and why I was so tired, I finally found light at the end of the tunnel. The book helped to explain everything that the analysis showed - it described my symptoms exactly. It was absolutely amazing. I recommend this book, and the services of Dr. Wilson to everyone.

as a orthomolecular-nutritionist that send a hair sample to a laboratory for a check as part of the routine precidure to every patient of myn,i can tell you that this 8th book on the subject (in my private book shelf)it is simply the best!!!. it starts with a complex, yet essencive and understandable that go further to the interpration principles wich gives the reader/practitioner a further gradualy understanding. the endocrine system, the metabolism type (according to the hair analysis),the nervous system,/cardiovascular,/repiratory and many other aspects that can be detect, classified, and be treated with the wisdom of the great system of hair minerals analysis medicine.pschiciatry, mood balance, are also explored in this book.energy level as a specific section that is worth of mention it. the author is also represent many cases of patients(with hair minerals analysis graphs),and a balancing nutrition plans and resoults.finally a very interesting chapters on nutrition aspects that do concern and correlate with harmony in this field of natural-medicine,in this so organised book that explines it from the begining (to someone that don't have a clue about this healing art ,and up to the highest levels for the best expirienced practioners). with all my expirience in this branch of medicine,-it gave me a lot!!!,thank you dr.wilson. read this book today! i know what i am talking about,i am in this field.

Disappointing,
This review is from: Nutritional Balancing and Hair Mineral Analysis (Paperback)
I think any book on this subject providing some systematic description of the field should be of immense value. Unfortunately although this book might appear superficially attractive, it is actually deficient or erroneous in many respects.
Take hair elements ratios for example. It cites ratios based on arbitrary units reported by a lab the author chose which have no relation to actually used quantifiable/measurable units these days. Referencing "elevated" or "depressed" values is really of little use, as much as using ratios based on those arbitrary units. If you want to grab your own hair testing results to put the book in your "own context", you will be utterly disappointed. The second example, that's where I know a little bit more about the subject - mercury toxicology. I did not have much problem with little information about synergetic effect of other minerals on mercury metabolism - it is slightly off the book's subject in any case. What I had problems with is the wrong advice, a suggestion by Dr Wilson to use Selenium as an Hg antagonist. That's totally wrong - Se does not antagonise Hg inasmuch as it binds it to quite insoluble compounds and deposits them in selective tissues such as kidney. This can cause even more damage to the renal system depending on specificity of systemic toxicity. Quite a dangerous misstatement! This leaves me with an interesting question: can I really trust the book's rather generalist statements about the other topics it covers? I don't know. If a scientifically well read reviewer came across a subject (s)he knew well, it will be interesting to know about their experiences. As of this moment I shelved the book, unfortunately. If you interested in the subject grab the two books by Andrew Hall Cutler. You will be able to compare the quality of material especially as the books were just a few years apart. Save your $50 if you are short on cash. It will not be your best amazon purchase.

Explains how to use hair mineral testing to asess thyroid and adrenal function. Some of the information is also available on his website.
This is a novel approach that fitted my already diagnosed low thyroid and adrenal output diagnoses. The dietary appraches recommended also suit me just about perfectly. The book was spot-on in many ways, for me at least. I didn't know whether to be pleased that most of my ratios put me in the most severe 'at huge and imminent risk for cardiac events and cancer' - as it is always good to get very severely abnormal and scary test results when you are in fact, very scarily ill and ridiculously severely disabled - or scared. (I'm housebound and 99% bedbound, and very restricted with speech and tasks of daily living, and have severe cardiac insufficiency, etc. as part of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, or M.E.) But either way, I appreciated having the information and would recommend this book to others with severe or chronic illness. This is a really interesting read and the book is well designed and organised. If possible, read it together with the author's brilliant book on saunas and lots of the articles on his website. In his must-read article 'Deep Healing Versus Symptom Removal' Dr Lawrence Wilson writes, "Deep healing is quite different from symptom removal. Symptom removal is the type of doctoring offered by the medical profession and by most holistic doctors as well. Symptoms are the focus, by and large, and the goal is to make them go away. The problem is that symptoms often point to deeper imbalances that are not usually not addressed. Deep healing is a much more profound process. It has to do with restoring the body to its former state of health. This means restoring its energy production system, its oxidation rate, its minerals ratios and much more. Symptom removal occurs as a "side effect" of these programs. Healing therefore usually takes longer and involves lifestyle changes as well. It is more work for both the client and the practitioner. Lifestyle, in fact, is always central and this is a good way to tell if your doctor is focused on symptoms or on deeper healing. In the long run, however, it saves time and lots of money, and may save your life as well." In his excellent article 'Deep Healing Versus Symptom Removal' Dr Lawrence Wilson explains that symptomatic approaches are so popular because: "1. They appear simple. This means they are largely superficial and easily understood by doctors and patients alike. Balancing methods are much more difficult to comprehend and to practice, as well. 2. Doctors, drug companies and hospitals love them. This is sadly the case because the patients never really get well. They always come back with the next symptom or problem, so it is good for business. Even the socialized medical systems of Europe, Canada and elsewhere continue this stupid and costly methods of drug medicine. Most holistic physicians are still recommending symptomatic treatments, in my estimation. Many are still interested in having the patient come back many times. Many feel they simply cannot stay in business if they truly healed people. Therefore, no matter what they profess, they are less interested in deeper balancing methods that actually heal the patient at deep levels. However, overall they are much better than conventional medical doctors I have met. 3. Symptomatic approaches ask very little of the patient in most cases. The person is allowed to keep eating junk food, skip adequate rest and sleep and ignore the problems in their lives. " If you only read one article of Dr Wilson's make it this one! This review is from: Nutritional Balancing and Hair Mineral Analysis (Paperback)
This book is must read if you are interested in health or nutrition. It explains in detail the role of each mineral in the body and what can deficiency or overload of a mineral do to your body. It also explains how these minerals interact and how to interpret a hair sample mineral analysis. It touches on many diseases or condition that your body may have a tendency towards and explains some theory behind the interpretation. Finally it touches on some very well researched health issues that is not related to mineral analysis but is good to know and use to achieve better health.
