1.0 out of 5 stars Seriously? June 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The Preface alone stopped me cold - clunky writing, misuse of words, spelling errors, incomplete sentences. "Bursting of flavor and very few calories...", "...simply marvelous homemade trial mix cookies...", (Not in MY courtroom, lol!) "...take your taste buds to seventh-haven."

Then there are the recipes. Several of the salsas sound pretty good, but then we come to the Cheddar & Bacon Potato Skins. Even with low-fat cheese and sour cream, I don't see how one serving would be 59 calories. The slice of bacon per potato skin alone is nearly 50 calories!

The Cheddar Cheese Biscuits take the cake, though. A pound of reduced fat cheese, a cup of pecans, a pound of butter, and 4 1/2 cups flour. Only 74 calories...but the recipe makes 108 servings!

Oh, and we mustn't forget the Fruit Skewers. Everything tastes better when its on a stick!

If you're looking for healthy snack recipes to support weight loss efforts, look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars DON'T PASS THIS UP! February 10, 2012
By Ryan
Format:Kindle Edition
Unlike a lot of people, I don't look for health foods and recipes to lose weight- I look for them to stay HEALTHY! With all the crap they're doing to our foods (GMO's, etc), I've begun to take the organic route (sadly, the hippies were right). This book is an excellent source of quality recipes for snacks, appetizers, and with a little improv- meals! Really, a very well rounded cookbook. ZERO complaints, 5 STARS, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Hips Are Happy With This One February 8, 2012
By Kate
Format:Kindle Edition
OK so I bought this book because my nutritionist advised that although I was on a diet, the fact that I thought eating only one meal a day helped me to lose weight was a myth, and I had been ill advised. I didn't tell her that I actually advised myself on that on.

By eating less, your body actually starts to store fat, because it is not sure when you are going to feed it again. This apparently goes against the principles of a healthy diet. But I was brought up being told that snacking was bad and we were not allowed to eat between meals. Apparently that is now so 'yesterday' in the world of healthy and sensible dieting.

I digress. Anyway with a carte blanc to snack, I decided to read up on 'healthy snacks' as a Mars chocolate bar 5 times a day does not cut it.

Hence buying this for my kindle. Well the author had me with the first recipe, avocado and feta are my dessert island foods. I just had to make it and yes, it was very good.

These recipes are not just loosely strung together, they have had thought, care and attention invested in their ensemble and presentation.

The books flows well, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. This is not junk snacking. I will be recommending this to my nutritionist, and expect to go straight to the top of the class.
