This review is from: Nuttin' But Love (Audio CD)
Heavy D & The Boyz 5th album Nuttin' But Love has to be described as a mixture of R&B and rap styles over some very head nodding beats. Being in the game for such a long time, many people really expected a few nice cuts from him and his group (such as "Is It Good To You"), and stretch it to a full album. Heavy D and The Boyz were putting out some dope hits in their career that I've managed to hear, but I've never gotten around to hearing any of their albums. I'm not sure what posessed me to purchase this album, but hearing it, I want to say that I'm very forutnate that I did. His lyrics are well focused and mature. And enlisting many well known producers back in '94, such as Marley Marl, K-Def, Pete Rock. Even he gets Teddy Riley to add a new jack swing flavor to the album, so you know it's going to be a fun listen. Most of the tracks here are amazing. The funky sounding "Sex With You" and the slow jam "Got Me Waiting" are easy standouts (the latter samples Luther Vandross' "Don't You Know That"). The album's title track is probably Heavy's most recognizable single produced by Kid Capri. "Somethin' Goin' On" has a dope bass line that will move your body. Love that track there. Next is the Teddy Riley produced "This Is Your Night", which is a great club song (should have been a single if it wasn't). The remix to "Got Me Waiting" is much slower, and sounds a little better than the origonal. Heavy swiches the subject matter up with the Erick Sermon produced "Take Your Time", which matches Hev's flow perfectly. "Spend A Little Time On Top" has a weird vibe to it, but I can tolerate it for the most part. "Keep It Goin'" sounds pretty nice for the most part (some may have to adjust to the short breakdowns done by The Boyz). Easy Mo' Bee samples James Brown's "Payback" for the funky "Black Coffee" which is mad dope. Heavy ends the album on a positive note with the insightful "Move On". This is truly one album many are going to love. Everything here is almost perfect, the mellow vibe, the lyrics, the production, whatever you name it. If you like R&B with some rap, then Nuttin' But Love may be right for you. Heavy would drop The Boyz when he follows up with 1997's Waterbed Hev, and would go on to release another album after that. One would wonder how that would sound with a different style. I just purchased this album recently, and it has been in rotation since, not to mention this is my first Heavy D album. Nuff respect to Hev. Peace. Lyrics: A Production: A+ Guest Appearances: A- Musical Vibes: A+ Top 5 Tracks: 1. Somethin' Goin' On 2. Sex With You 3. This Is Your Night 4. Take Your Time (featuring Vinia Mojica) 5. Black Coffee (featuring Vinia Mojica) Honorable Mention: 1. Spend A Little Time On Top (featuring Felica Graham, Alethea Graham, and Jennifer Keith) 2. Got Me Waiting (featuring Crystal Johnson) 3. Got Me Waiting (Remix) (featuring Silk and Lil' G)

This CD is definitely one of my favorites!! You can almost listen to the whole CD straight thru!! With the help of Kid Capri on the title track and Easy Mo Bee on "Black Coffee" you can't go wrong!! There are many guest appearances on here, especially on the first cut "Friends & Respect." "Got Me Waiting" is another track that is pretty good with the Vandross sample. Overall this is a pretty good CD!!
