THE Nuuchahnulth reference grammar,
By W.F. Desvoyelles (Denver/Boulder, CO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nuuchahnulth (Nootka) Morphosyntax (Paperback)
I've used this book pretty extensively for research on the Nuuchahnulth/Nootka language, and it's a very well designed book. All the explanations are well supported with examples, and the Phonetics/Phonology section does a reasonable job of explaining some of the vast complexities of the Nuuchahnulth sound system. Overall, I was very impressed, and this is definitely a great resource for anybody interested in Nuuchahnulth or other Wakashan languages.
If you're looking for other texts, you might want to check out Sapir and Swadesh's "Nootka Texts", and John Stonham's work on Nuuchahnulth Phonology (very specialized, but vital for understanding this language, not available through Amazon). |
