4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product - shoddy quality
I loved using this in the summertime - really keeps the heat out of the kitchen. It works great for cooking fish, chicken, etc. The only problem was after about 15 months it stopped working normally. Now, after about 10 minutes of operation, it shuts off. There's something wrong with a limit inside the cooking apparatus but it is not user serviceable.

I'd buy...

3.0 out of 5 stars Works Well: But Not For the Long Term, November 23, 2008
This review is from: Nuwave 20201 Analog-Controlled Infrared Tabletop Oven, White (Kitchen)
Those who purchase the Nuwave Oven usually have in mind a healthier, cleaner, and more efficient way to cook. The Nuwave does indeed deliver on these counts. It is a healthy alternative to conventional ovens in that it eliminates more saturated fatty oils than they do. It is cleaner in that the clean up time in considerably less than with a standard oven. And it is more efficient than a standard oven in that the combination of convection/infrared styles of heating do produce a tastier result. Now having said that, the potential purchaser must consider areas that one might not think of until too late. First, the sturdiness and quality of the device is inherently far less than that of either a standard oven or a microwave. Even for those reviewers who rave about their experiences all too often report control quality issues after the first year of use. In many cases the device simpy ceases to function. This brings me to number two: Repair costs are prohibitive. In fact it is cheaper to buy a new unit than to fix the old one. The warranty does not cover beyond the standard period. Finally, the Nuwave does work well but only on one type of food at a time. If you were to cook meat and vegetables together, the result would be that the former turned out well but not the latter. A minor note is that the instructions and cooking suggestions are both poorly worded and at times incomprehensible. The bottom line is that the Nuwave Oven is probably a good deal for those who do not plan to use it for more than one year and intend to cook only one type of food at a time.

I'd buy another one but you know how it goes - once bitten, twice shy. Got more than the 100 bucks of use out of it in that year though. If you have a family, even better!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised, April 27, 2008

This review is from: Nuwave 20201 Analog-Controlled Infrared Tabletop Oven, White (Kitchen)
I have been disappointed with this oven. I have used it for three months on steak, lamb, chicken, vegetables, salmon, and a roast. It always takes way longer to cook than a regular oven or the direction book says even though I always set it on high. There is only one cooking method not several as the ad implies, and it doesn't brown as well as a regular oven. It does clean easily and might be okay for someone who has to have a portable oven, but it definitely takes much longer to cook than a my regular oven with poorer results. I regret buying it.

I Had a great feeling when I first ordered this product. I wanted to start the New Year off right. Cooking more at home and eating out less. I watched a TV add on this product and decided to buy the Analog version from Amazon to save a few bucks. The first time I tried the product I was very dis-pleased! I followed the directions within the cook book that came with the unit. I tried to cook a small boneless turkey breast. What a mess! I had to keep cooking it longer and longer. Finally it was done inside, but dried out. I now wish I would have bought the digital unit with a thermometer built into it. The TV show made it look so simple. Take my advice, think long and hard before buying this product.

Does not live up to TV hype. Great for frozen steaks and other items that fit on rack. The instructions are really vague aa to how to cook several items together. Tried several combinations as suggested and wound up with great cooked meat and ruined vegetables. The analog works as advertised and was cheaper. The cooking instructions (besides being hard to read and half in Spanish) are vague as to multiple items. This is not a "plug 'n play" item. Must study every item you place in oven to wind up cooked at same time. Wife went back to crock pot & regular oven and I continue to use for last minute craving like frozen steaks and burgers.

I have had a completely different experience with this device than others here. I made a steak according to directions for rare..it was very well done. The times in the booklets vary from one section to another for the same item. The card has much longer cooking times than the booklets. It does NOT cook in half the time...the baked potato timing is 50 minutes, exactly like an oven.

This is a waste of money and space!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy the Model 20201, Buy ONLY the Model 20236, May 21, 2009
This review is from: Nuwave 20201 Analog-Controlled Infrared Tabletop Oven, White (Kitchen)
This is a review of my brand new Model 20236 NuWave Oven purchased from Ira *** Co. for 132.00 (including free shipping). This oven is SIGNIFICANTLY UPGRADED from the OBSOLETE model that Amazon is offering (Model 20201) in that it offers digital controls as well as an additional cooking rack and capacity enhancing extender which is NOT offered on the Amazon offered model.

I received the digital NuWave Model 20236 on 20-May, two days after ordering it from Ira ***. It was well packaged. I immediately wanted to test my main desire for it, the ability to correctly cook a frozen solid 2" thick Porterhouse prime Angus steak purchased at one of the finest butchers in my area (the Kroger custom butcher shop of Wilmington, OH).

Following the instructions, I used the 4" high rack, placing it into the NuVave so that the rack side faced up (for some idiotic reason, the instructions have you putting the rack in UPSIDE-DOWN!!!), following the picture of the assembled NuWave on the manual's front cover. I found that the oven was easy to assemble. ACOORDING TO THE MANUAL'S SUGGESTION FOR EASY CLEANUP, I COVERED THE BOTTOM DRIP PAN WITH REYNOLD'S ALUMINUM FOIL.

After placing the frozen-solid steak into the oven, I followed the cooking instructions for a 2" thick frozen steak and set the timer for 45 minutes. I was prepared to turn the steak over as soon as the digital timer display showed 23 minutes. I seasoned the steak with pepper, seasoned salt, and garlic powder on both sides.

Following the above procedure, I turned the steak over at 23 minutes. There was an attractive amount of searing of the top of the steak at 23 minutes and the steak was almost totally thawed.

By the time that the 45 minute timer had finished (remember to press START again after turning the steak over at 23 minutes!!!!), the steak was perfectly cooked to medium-rare/medium and seared beautifully on both sides. Being that the Porterhouse that I cooked in the NuWave was well-trimmed of fat (but well marbled), I did not have significant fat runoff into my aluminum-foil covered drip pan. The plastic dome was also free of spattering fat, I wiped it down with a paper towel and Formula 409 to clean it. The 4" high grill (kind of thin and fragile, but okay if you treat it with respect) found its way into the dishwasher for cleaning.

My results as a first time user were absolutely PERFECT. The steak was well-cooked with consistancy in cooking that was quite excellent. The steak appeared well-seared and was appetizing visually as well as tasting wonderful. The NuWave Oven Model 20236 joins the Jack LaLane Juicer as the only info-mercial items that I've seen that actually perform as advertised and even surpass the info-mercial claims. I am thrilled with my purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cooks Awesome. Questionable Quality of Parts., November 10, 2009
This review is from: Nuwave 20201 Analog-Controlled Infrared Tabletop Oven, White (Kitchen)
First, I just want to clear up a point of misinformation that was given in a couple other reviews. The Nuwave does not come anywhere close to using more energy than a conventional electric oven. On its highest setting, the Nuwave uses 1300-1400 watts (real world value measured with a Kill-A-Watt wattmeter), which is less than a half to a third of the power even the most efficient conventional oven uses.

Anyway, I've owned the Nuwave oven for about 6 months now, and I use it everyday. I'm hardcore obsessive-compulsive when it comes to cooking chicken and fish, and because of that, in the past, I've always wound up overcooking to the point of drying out and/or burning the meat. With the Nuwave oven though, even with my propensity to ruin meat in the name of food safety, my chicken and salmon still come out juicy and tender.

One of the few things I've found that doesn't cook well in the Nuwave though is frozen pizza. I've tried adjusting the time, power settings, and rack height, but the pizza dough never comes out fully cooked. In my experience, this is one area where the Nuwave falls short of the conventional oven.

Also, it's been mentioned by numerous other reviewers, but depending on the exact model, the quality of the Nuwave leaves a lot to be desired, for sure. In general, the Nuwave is an appliance that requires somewhat delicate care. On most models, the clear dome enclosure is made of plastic, and a quick google search of "Nuwave cracked dome" will point out the frailty of this part. Also, partly due to my own negligence, the steel rack on my Nuwave has started to rust pretty badly. I've never done anything as stupid as to take a Brillo pad to the rack, but I'm guessing my failure to dry the rack out before putting the dome back on (thereby continually trapping all the moisture inside the oven) lead to the rusting.

Beyond these quality issues though and its inability to cook a decent pizza from raw, the Nuwave has really lived up to the hype in my eyes. In particular, I think those that live busy lives and have healthier appetites will really appreciate what this appliance has to offer.

1.0 out of 5 stars A real con job, December 14, 2009

I will keep this brief. Amazon should consider the unethical business practices of this company before promoting their products. I was just looking on their website to see what their infomercial was about and before I knew what happened, an order was placed. I do a lot of online shopping and this has never happened to me before. There was no review of an order before it is placed but somehow an order was placed. Besides a bogus order, the total amount was much more than they advertised because of ridiculous shipping charges on everything including the "free" add-ons. I immediately, 2 mins after I realized the order was placed, to cancel and what a con job. I couldn't get anyone on the phone and sent an e-mail right away. Funny, although I couldn't talk to anyone, I received an e-mail order confirmation right away, specifying not to reply to the confirmation. First thing in the morning, I tried to call and confirm that the order was cancelled and have yet to get someone on the phone. They give you until 1:00 p.m. central time the next business day to cancel, but no one will get on the phone. You see what they are doing? If they don't answer, you can't cancel. I am reporting their practices to the Better Business Bureau. Complaints about customer service in previous reviews is right on! As far as I am concerned, there is no customer service and this company should be cited as having unethical website and business practices.

I do a lot of shopping on Amazon and trust them, but maybe they should review the companies that participate more thoroughly.

3.0 out of 5 stars difficult cleaning, August 17, 2009

This works well and does cook food as well as it says. I used it a lot when I first got it but I found that I grew tired of the clean up afterwards. It just got easier to fall back on my traditional methods of cooking rather than go through the bother. I still use it now and then as it really does cook things well, especially whole chicken, but not as a daily means of preparing my meals.
