Book Description

Nuworld January 31, 2006
Join Tara, heiress to lead the deadly Runners, as she challenges Darius, leader of the barbaric Gothman, and fights to gain respect for her people, equality for her gender, and possession of his heart, in this futuristic, dark romance.

Tara couldn't imagine a race where only half the people were trained to be warriors. Gothman treated their women like property, and used them however they saw fit. Tara decides to learn more about this strange race and disguises herself as a docile, and submissive Gothman woman. But the Gothman leader suspects her immediately as a member of a despised race. Now Tara must decide if she should risk her life to learn more about these people, in which case, she might also be risking her heart to the Lord of Gothman, who has decided he will own this young woman named Tara.

Wow! This was an awesome book. I loved everything about it and can't wait to read her next in this series. I am excited because all of the books in this series have received glowing reviews. This book takes you away to a faraway land called Nuworld. There are many different races of people that reside on this land. Tara is from the race called Runners. Her race men and women are equal and are both trained as warriors. She decides the time has come in her life to explore the world farther. She decides to learn about the Gothman race. She sneeks into their territory and disguises herself as a Gothman woman in hopes of discovering more about them. Runners are not allowed in Gothman terriory so she has to be very careful or risk being killed. She is perplexed to learn that Gothman woman are not equal to their men and are not trained as warriors. There she meets the sexy Gothman warrior, Darius, who is the leader of his race. Once he sees her he quickly discovers she is a Runner, but he is so intrigued by her that he does not let it bother him. He quickly decides he must have her, she is unlike no other woman he has ever seen.

Tara has finally met a man that is her match in all ways. He is a skilled warrior who can even outskill her in many ways. Darius and Tara's relationship quickly grows and they are able to learn much from one another. But their happiness is put to the test when many obstacles interfere with their relationship: War, Infidelity, Trust. And on top of all that there is a battle of wills between the two. They are constantly trying to dominate the other.

This book was filled with adventure, discovery, secrets, and love. The book had so much plot and twist and turns, so much depth between the characters. I loved reading about Tara's adventures and admired how strong her character was. After I finished this book I still couldn't get the characters out of my head. This book is not to be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The exciting beginning to Lorie O'Clare's NUWORLD series, January 25, 2007
This review is from: Nuworld: The Saga Begins (Paperback)
Tara is the heiress to the Runners nation and a member of the Blood Circle Clan. She comes from a race of warriors who travel in search of knowledge of other cultures. From a young age, she learned to take great pride in both her heritage and her fighting skills. Runner women are treated as equals and she can't understand a culture that would treat their women as inferior. Once she reached the Age of Searching, the tales told by the elders were no longer enough, and Tara goes in search of the people that most interest her . . . the Gothman.

Lord Darius is the leader of the Gothmans. They are also a warrior race, but unlike the Runners, women are not trained to fight and treated as possessions. Lord Darius is a man used to having everything handed to him. The Gothman women are submissive and easily accessible until they're claimed by a man. Lord Darius realizes very quickly that Tara is not of his race and decides to claim her. He'll soon learn that Tara will not be claimed unless she chooses to be.

Tara's Age of Searching is upon her. She's listened to Patha's stories about the Gothman for many winters and been intrigued by this race of warriors and their way of life. Nobody can tell her why there's hatred between the Gothman and Runner. Tara is determined to discover the reasoning for this hatred. The Gothman's have orders to shoot any Runner entering their territory which makes entering Gothman lands a dangerous proposition for Tara. She risks it, and manages to evade the primitive bang sticks and finds her way to the house and woman whom she'd heard Patha describe many times. Rheena knew that someday Tara would come. She'd long awaited the younger woman and was quite anxious to introduce her to the ways of the Gothman. Playing a subservient role like the other women of this culture is difficult for Tara. She tries hiding her fighting skills but when she sees a young boy being picked on by older children, she uses her weapon to scare off the other boys, thus attracting attention to herself - especially when the young boy's brother is Lord Darius, and he witnessed the whole scene. Even though he realizes that she behaves differently than a Gothman woman would, he does nothing more than thank her for assisting his brother. Will Lord Darius be able to find love with Tara despite the fact that she belongs to a race that has been long despised by his people?

THE SAGA BEGINS is a truly powerful story. I was stunned by how quickly I was pulled into the story and was able to allow myself to enjoy the ideals of such a different culture being acceptable. I'm almost envious of the passionate natures of the characters who are both capable of incredible desire or astonishing rage. They come from vastly different backgrounds and both Tara and Lord Darius must learn to compromise if there is to be a hope of happiness for either of them. This definitely isn't a book for the faint of heart. I'd highly suggest keeping an open mind while reading. Lorie O'Clare does an amazing job penning tales that will have readers thinking outside the norm and delighting in the possibilities to be found in a futuristic world.

2.0 out of 5 stars okay there is a lot here, but..., May 5, 2008

okay there is a lot here, but...it was just a little much for me. I guess the thing that pushed it over into the area where I just couldn't get through it was the hero with other woman. That is not my idea of a romance. Sure another woman is fine before he meets the heroine or maybe before he realizes he wants her but during?! I can't remember if this is the 1st or 2nd book (unfortunately, I bought the first 2 at the same time), but it all seems the same.
