This is a video review for the Nyko Charge Base in which I try to cover common questions, such as "How much width/weight will this add to my 3ds?" and "How does it feel after its installed?" And common complaints, like "The base doesn't work as its supposed to!" I detail the functionality, size, and my own experiences. I hope you find it insightful and helpful in your purchase! ENJOY!

There were a lot of reviews saying that the charge stand itself doesn't work, and while I experienced a lot of the same problems described by others, they all seemed to have given up on it entirely. Yes, the battery works, holds about double the charge, and doesn't feel too bad to hold. It also adds quite a bit of weight to the system. This review will focus on the charge base so many people seem to have issues with, and hopefully make your decision to purchase this a bit more informed.

When I got the thing, after charging it with the direct AC adapter, I tested out the cradle seeing as so many people claim theirs doesn't work. When I set my 3DS in there and the orange 'charge' light on the 3DS didn't come on, I assumed mine was broken too. I scoured the googles for information on a possible fix, and the only interesting thing I found was that one person had contacted Nyko, who told him that it was acting normally. The light's not supposed to come on. I was about to contact Nyko myself, but then thought I'd test it out and see if I can get it working first. I ran a game (with the 3D all the way up) and left the wireless on at full brightness overnight to kill the new power pack. Once it was dead, I set it in the cradle, and saw that the orange light on the 3ds did not come on. I left it in there (with the cradle's power button turned on) and turned the 3DS on, but it promptly died. So, to test it out, I left it in the cradle (dead) while I was at work. When I came home, the power pack had completely charged. The cradle's light was still orange until i turned the cradle off and on again, and then it turned green, to indicate that it was fully charged.

Many have claimed that this product does not work, due to the 3DS showing a low battery charge after installing Nyko's battery pack. But I'm here to tell you how's done and how it should work.

First, the base comes with no power cable, one must use the Nintendo 3DS standard power cable. The Nyko base comes with a battery back that must be installed, by completely removing the bottom cover of the 3DS. The package includes a small screwdriver and installation is actually very simple. The battery pack itself will basically replace the 3DS bottom cover and it's made of non slip rubber. It will add thickness to the 3DS and some weight of course; you will feel the weight difference, but it's not that big of a change. Once installed, it gives your 3DS a thicker more comofortable feeling to it; however, the comfort does not match that of regular adapters such as Grip with Silicone Handles for Nintendo 3DS, so don't expect any miracles. The charge base has a connection plug in the back side, where you must plug your 3DS power adapter. The charge base has a power button on the right side and will emmit a red light on the sides, indicating that the battery is being charged, once the battery is full, the light on the base will turn green. Both red and green lights are solid, no flashing of any kind. Nyko promises double the charge of the stock 3DS battery, but I've ben able to run my 3DS for about 7+ hours on a single charge, on and off that is. I've gotten about 6.5 hrs of straight gaming, full 3D, online playing Mario Kart.

Now, this bit is importan about charging the unit. YOUR BATTERY/CHARGER IS FINE. YOU MUST LEAVE THE 3DS ON WHILE CHARGING OR YOU WON'T SEE A CHARGE.

My son broke the power port in the back of the 3DS a short while ago, rendering it unusable. However, after replacing the battery with this I can now charge the 3DS and it can be used again.

the charger port on my 3DS broke, so this was a cheap solution. It has charger contacts on the bottom so it'll charge the 3DS. Also the battery lasts TWICE as long. Perfect for the people who take long rides in the car, train, or plane.

I've had this battery pack and charger for a while now and have just recently started encountering problems with it. Overall, the battery does work as advertised and improves the battery life of the 3ds by leaps and bounds and the charger is relatively simple affair to use. The problem is that the charge base itself seems to have longevity issues. After owning and using the charger for about a month and a half the charge base began to malfunction and not properly light up. I then found out with some experimentation that the battery was also not charging anymore and that I had to plug the system in to recharge the battery. Hopefully, this specific charge base was part of a bad batch and is not representative of the majority of the charge bases.
