I got this for my Wii since it was cheaper than setting up a wireless network, and cheaper than the USB Wii Dongle (which costs about as much as a Wireless Router),
I plugged this into the back of my Wii, plugged in an ethernet cable hooked up to my wired router and 2 minutes later I was downloading updates for my Wii. I have not had any issues with this product, but one thing that might be of concern is that the cat5 ethrnet cable doesn't "lock" into place. It fits snugly, but a tug on the cable can remove it from the adapter. This might be considered a safety feature, since if your foot accidentally snags on your cable it will pull the cable out instead of pulling your Wii off your entertainment stand.

I'm a technology hermit and this was a simple setup. I have DSL and all I did was unplug the ethernet cable from the back of my computer and plug it into the adapter. (The adapter plugs into the back of the Wii via USB). Under Wii settings, choose "Internet" - select "connection settings" - select a box that has "None" (ex. "Connection 1 - None") - then select "Wired connection" - select "Ok" to test connection. That's it. Worked instantly. You only need a Wii points card if you want to download virtual games (500-1000 points, depending on game) or download the Internet Channel (500 points). This review is a bit of a mess, but I give this product 5 Stars!

Works as expected for a good price,

I was a little tentative when I got this, but the price was right. Basically, wanted to use it to hook my Wii up to a wired network. Plugged it in and it worked. Good price, and for once no configuration mess or any problems. If you're wavering on this or the official twice-the-price connector, I'd highly recommend this.

My wireless router sits within a few feet of my Wii. I saw no reason why I should be using a wireless connection, when a wired connection is typically faster and more reliable (and is one less possible source of device conflicts).
This worked perfectly. I purchased this on one of the Black Friday sales, so it was much cheaper than the normal price. I figured I had nothing to lose. But, now that I am using it, I think it's a good value at the current price too. Simple to use: 1. Plug it into one of the USB ports in the back of the Wii. 2. Connect the device to your router using a Cat-5 line (not included). 3. Go into the Wii Internet menu and configure the internet connection for "wired". If it's working, you'll see a blue LED on the device blink as it is accessing the internet. Hardest part was opening the package!

Much faster than the wireless router I was using, and nice-and-cheap. Easy setup: Simply go into connections, clear out any old connections, turn on wired connetion, and your good to go.
Great for the price.

Works better than the wireless,

With just the wireless connection that comes standard with the Wii, I could not get software updates to complete with my Verizon FIOS ActionTec router. Wii would lock the router every time. This is partly due to known issues with the ActionTec router provided by Verizon with FIOS. However, with the wired connection -- zip -- software download the first time quickly with no lockup.

It came.... I plugged it in..... it worked. The price point is the biggest seller here it was quite a bit cheaper than its nintendo brand counterpart and works flawlessly i've had no trouble. a good option for those lacking a Wi-Fi connection.

Seamless Integration,
This review is from: Nyko Net Connect for Wii (Video Game)
My Wii's internet has always been choppy due to the fact that it's on wireless, and far away from my router. With the upcoming release of Super Smash Bros Brawl, I knew I'd need smoother online gameplay for brawling. I purchased this along with the Netgear HDXB101 Powerline HD Ethernet Kit. The ethernet kit hooked up in a flash, and all i had to do was plug the LAN adapter into the Wii's USB port, hook it up to my "new ethernet port", and tell the Wii to use wired. everything worked easily, and there is absolutely no speed loss. I highly recommend this configuration!

Title says it all. Plugged it in, told Wii to use it, it did and away down the info super-highway we went.

Works, but doesn't improve speed.,

I bought this sometime back before Monster Hunter Tri came out because the wireless router I use is very far from my Wii and I wanted the best speed possible. So I picked this up thinking it might improve my connection speed. The product worked out of the box right away no problem, but after a long time of using it I decided to test the connection speed of it. One way was making two connections on my Wii; 1 for the Wii Net Connect and 1 for the wireless signal I use. Then I did a test connection for both of them. The Nyko Wii Net Connect took about 30 seconds average to fully connect to Nintendo. The wireless connection which I again mention is very far from my wireless router took about 10 seconds average. The second way was downloading some updates for a homebrew software. When comparing the two, the wireless signal was much faster in downloading the info over the Wii Net Connect.
So I personally say this product is only worth it if you don't have a wireless router and aren't able to buy a wireless router for whatever reason. |
