Great concept, poorly executed,
By Chad C (USA) - See all my reviews

I really wanted to like the Kama. I primarily bought it to play the boxing minigame in Wii Fit. The first time I tried it with Wii Fit it was slow and sluggish. The hits seemed to be a fraction of a second behind half the time. Often time the delay was the difference between a perfect hit and a hit, sometimes it was so bad the hit didn't register. I love the concept of a true wireless nunchuck adapter, and the feel and weight of this product felt great to me. But, I can't give anything more than 1 star to a product which simply fails to perform it only function no matter how good it looks or feels. I can't recommend this product at $15 let alone at $35. Wait for the next version or an official product from Nintendo.

Let me say from the start that the only reason I purchased this was to play the boxing games, like Wii sports boxing. Those who are avid players of these games are aware of how frustrating it can become when you're really into the game and find yourself limited in your motion by the two remotes being tethered so close together. I have not found this to be a problem with any other games that I've played so far, only with the boxing games. For this purpose I have found this device to be great! I love being able to make several right crosses or uppercuts without worrying about the nunchuck or the remote being pulled to the point of breaking one or the other. I have found this wireless nunchuck to be very responsive, well, at least AS responsive as the tethered nunchuck. Overall, this has definitely added to my enjoyment of the boxing games and I recommend it fully. Five stars for performance, four for battery life.

Since the Nintendo Wii came out many gamers have anxiiously been awaiting new ways of playing their favorite games, without the cord from the original Wii Nunchuck. For Nyko, the third-party company they did try to come up with that solution with their wireless Kama Nunchuck add-on. While the concept is clever, sadly the battery dies down very easily after only a few uses. On top of that, it doesn't respond as well to top notch games like Super Mario Galaxy and Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess. At around $35, it just doesn't seem to work as well out well for anyone who has the Nintendo Wii nunchuck add-on. I really suggest you stay with the one that came with the Wii, and just hope that Nintendo can make a wireless Nunchuck that works better.

After reading the very mixed reviews posted here, we decided to go ahead and give these a try anyhow - and I'm glad we did!
Despite warnings to the contrary, the wireless nunchucks we received ARE compatible with wii Plus - the sensor clips onto the end of the wii Plus adapter on the wiimote with no forcing or difficulty, and it took me about a full minute to get the bateries in and the sensor attached to the wiimote - easy peasy. :-) I tried it last night with EA Sports Active (pretty much the reason we bought it), and it seemed to work as well as the wired nunchuck with one huge, noticeable difference: I was able to complete all the exercises without whapping myself in the legs, hands, and face with the nunchuck cord! Plus the range of motion is incredible - no more yanking the nunchuck out of the leg holster when "running," and other exercises where the arms end up stretching in opposite directions (like in "dancing") are no longer awkward. So I'm VERY happy with my purchase, and will be recommending these to my friends immediately. :-)

I was skeptical to get this when I saw the price tag and the amazon reviews it's received - but then I found very positive reviews for it on youtube, CNET, and IGN, and decided to make a purchase. I made the right choice. The controller is very sturdy, responds the same (motions, buttons, stick) as the original nunchuck, minus a few completely insignificant differences (i.e., the C and Z buttons are now transparent, and the C button is now slightly larger than it was before. Both improvements, in my mind) is attractive, and even includes a wrist strap! In fact, I would even say it performs slightly better than the original nunchuck. It should be noted, however, that you need to power on & off the nunchuck, and when you first set it up you need to press the sync button on the kama and the dongle that attaches to the wii remote (these 2 things are done via two buttons on the face of the kama, power and sync, and the sync button on the dongle, all of which don't get in the way at all). This is easy to do, and isn't a problem. Again, I don't see why this controller has received such poor reviews; it's a great little device. I don't ever want to go back to the wired nunchuck!
[edit] - I forgot to mention: you can still use the wii remote jacket with the dongle plugged in!

I bought this for use with the EA Sports Active in order to:
a) stop whipping my self in the face with the nunchuk cord when boxing b) stop tangling up my hands with the cord when boxing c) stop jerking the nunchuk out of the leg holster when running d) stop playing Twister with the cord and the red elastic resistance band when I was doing tricept kickbacks. It does all those things. Yay! I have a few issues, but honestly, I was having the same problem with the corded nunchuk, so I think it's a software thing, not a hardware issue: a) when at the track, my speed can get a little erratic - far more so than justified by any tiny adjustment to my actual running speed b) sometimes when doing squats or lunges, it thinks I've stood up or squatted down when I haven't. This is very rare, but annoying c) I agree with the previous assessment that the timing is not perfect in the boxing (or the baseball for that matter), but again - this was happening to me with the corded nunchuk too, so I'm thinking it's the game (it couldn't be ME....) Additionally, there's the minor inconvenience of the fact that the adapter does not fit into the bottom of the motion plus adapter (at least not while in its nice squishy holder), so I had to take out the motion plus adapter and replace it with the nunchuk adapter. Now, the remote slops around a little in the squishy case, but honestly not enough to be considered anything other than a mega-minor annoyance. It does seem to run down the battery on the remote pretty quickly, but I have the Energizer recharger console thingy, so I just put the remote back on the pad when I'm done, and it's all charged and ready next time I need to work out. The batteries in the nunchuk seem to be lasting quite a while - I got through a 30 day workout regimen without having to switch them out. In all, I'm absolutely glad I bought it. If you're thinking about it, I say go for it.

Does Not Work,

I have tested it with zelda, mario, and wii sports. The connection is sluggish and slow. There seems to be about less than a 1/2 second of lag time. Not worth the extra $15 to go wireless. The problem is not as noticeable with wii sports, most likely because the movements are not as precise.

Half a loaf,

I bought the Kama wireless nunchuck to use with EA Sports Active. The standard nunchuck cord is about 8-12 inches too short for me, and I'm 5'11. I thought the Kama would benefit my workout by addressing this shortcoming.
Is half a loaf better than none? I don't think so, because for my purposes that's what the Kama is. On some Active workouts (like the standing twists and upright rows) your motions are NOT registered by the device. So you do your rep and the program waits and prompts you to continue over and over, even though you're ready to move on. That's frustrating. On some exercises it DOES work, but only on about half of those that require the resistance band. I returned my first one and got another thinking that maybe the device I got was defective. The second functions identically to the first. (In case you're curious, I *do* know how to do the exercises, and my reps register when using the wired nunchuck.) It's too bad, too. The product syncs up fast, feels great in the hand and seems to be well thought out. I see no lag, none of the complaints of other reviewers. The price is reasonable. I have NEVER performed better on Wii Sports boxing than when using the Kama, and that's what mystifies me about its failure on Active. I'm probably going to return the Kama. I'm not that big into the boxing, and unless I buy two, if there's human competition, whoever has the Kama controller will have a distinct advantage. I see that some people have had luck with it using Active. I wish I was one of them.

I bought this product to use with the new EA Active game (great game BTW). It worked for all of the two handed activities and for the running, but it didn't work for lunges and squats. I don't know if it was too big to fit right in the leg strap, or if it didn't make the connection strong enough. I also have a wired version from this company, and it has the same issues. Maybe I need a different brand.

I bought the wireless nunchuk on special and was really excited about it. I like to box and sometimes the wire can come back and hit you if you are having "a little too much fun" when using the traditional nunchuk. Of course I had to try it right away. Unfortunately, the wireless remote is not as accurate. When I would throw a punch it would not always register. It is fine for playing games that don't require the speed and accuracy that boxing requires. I would say I was a little disappointed with it overall.
