I have a 19 lb. black Pug, even with his normal weight I had some problems with adjusting this harness, pugs are not your average type body. When I was finished I had a new dog. This is a fantastic item, I have tried everything, my vet told me to stop walking him with his collar, I was injuring his vocal cords, he hated the regular harness and would not even walk. He doesn't seem to mind the HOLT. After about 15 minutes walking with the Holt my guy was walking by my side on a slack lease, something we all strive for and I got! I just had the most enjoyable walk that I ever had with ANY dog! This item is so inexpensive I intend to buy another one in case ?. If you are considering this item buy it you will not be sorry. P.S. my dog's neck is 13" and his body is about 20" and the small fits perfect.
I purchased this because regular harnesses caused chafing on my Shih Tzu. He has short legs so it was difficult to get one that did not cause him pain. I came across this at the pet store and was unsure, it looked like a tangle of rope. But I am glad I tired it out! It did take me a awhile to figure out how to get it on him but after practice it gets easier. Be sure to measure, I had to buy a medium, and my dog only weighs 16 lbs.
I would highly recommend this and am now in the search for another.
THIS appears to be the ONLY harness so far that my Rat Terrier cannot escape from. I like other types of harnesses, and use the Puppia harness for my other dogs... but my propblem terrier can escape from anything - except this Holt Harness. It's designed as a total control harness, and when the dog pulls or, as it is in my case, struggles to free themselves of the harness it seems to be uncomfortable for the dog, hence stopping the pulling/struggling/thrashing.
I'm tired of chasing my runaway dog when she gets off lead, and this appears to be the ONE that she can't escape. Plus it was stopped her pulling too!
