3.0 out of 5 stars not for a small dog
This collar is stiff and too bulky for a small dog but is nice and bright at night. The button is a little hard to push to turn it on.

I have to give this collar five stars even though it has a few minor drawbacks.

I have two very active dogs. One is an Akita Inue puppy. The other is a Black Labrador retriever. We go for walks in the woods every night. On moonless nights, it is almost impossible to keep track of them without this collar.

Shoppers should note that the entire collar lights up. This significantly increases the possibility of seeing your dogs in the dark because you will be able to see the collar from almost any angle.

The collar has a fiber optic tube through its entire length. It is LED illuminated and consumes very litle battery power.

One of the drawbacks, however, is that it is only brightly visible at night. If you leave it on during the day, you won't be able to tell that it is on and consuming battery power. You can run down the batteries very easily if you don't shut it off when you and your dogs are done using it.

The other reviewer mentioned that it is difficult to shorten the collar. This is actually fairly easy. All you have to do is temporarily remove the fiber optic tube from the collar, cut it to length, then re-insert it and shorten the collar using the buckles.

The other minor drawback, to me, is that the color on the collar tends to fade if your dogs wear them a lot in direct sunlight. However, this only results in a faded color for the collar. It does not affect the excellent nightime visibility.

This product is unique, works well, and, is economical. I gets five stars from me.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great collar!, January 12, 2010
We live in a poorly lit neighborhood with few sidewalks, so night time walks can be dangerous. I've tried several different types of wearable lights for my medium-sized dog and this one works the best for both of us! The Nite Dawg is thicker and slightly heavier than his normal collar, but not so much that he seems to really notice. The amount of light emitted from the collar is really incredible! And the ability to make the light blink is also a nice feature.

I recently bought the small orange collar for my 17 pound brown labradoodle and have been very pleased with the product. It is well constructed and performs as described. I have run the dog around at night without any worry of loosing her in the darkness. I would recommend this collar without reservations.
You should read the other review that describes how to get the kink out of the plastic light wand when opening the packaging. Instead of boiling water, I wrapped the wand in a towel and warmed the plastic with an iron until it straightened. This is a flaw in the packaging but is easily resolved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Light Collar, July 11, 2011

I've tried many lighted collars and attachments for my dogs and this is by far the best one. The light goes around the entire collar unilke many other "lighted attachments" and the light doesn't go out when the dogs are playing or running around (again, unlike other collars). I highly recommend this collar and the price is awesome.

3.0 out of 5 stars good but needs improvement, December 4, 2010
We liked this collar in theory, and when working properly it is effective. That being said our two dogs love to rough house and bite each others collars. They are able to turn off and on each others collars, which often leads to the battery wearing down very quickly. Also, with both our dogs loving to drink from our creek I wish they were waterproof, not just water resistant.

Very pleased with this product. I like to run at night with my dog and he is now visible to other people, bikes and cars. I have received many compliments and have recommended product several times.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good collar-- light could be brighter but it works well., February 5, 2010

This collar is just as advertised. I gave it four stars instead of five because the light could be brighter and would probably work best on a dog with shorter hair, like a lab. The large size fits our Scottish Deerhound, but his coat is rather long around his neck and it covers this collar a bit, reducing its brightness. The collar is adjustable but to make it smaller, you need to trim the collar; in other words, it doesn't adjust to fit like the standard nylon collar. The collar comes with instructions for trimming it; the process is straightforward but takes some time.

This review is from: LED Nylon Night Safety Dog Collar by Nite Ize (Misc.)
The thought is a great idea. I have a black lab that loves the park for running. Because we walk him a lot of times when it's dark, we needed some way of tracking him easily. The lighted collar works really well with a new battery, but that probably last for about 4-5hrs. and then becomes very faint. Again, it is a great idea, but doesn't stay bright for as long as we would like it to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect!, February 15, 2012
I have owned several "light up" dog collars. This one is the best combination of sturdy (I have a 100 pound dog) and bright. One pointer for those of us who don't read instructions. You may need to cut the plastic insert to get the collar to fit the smaller end of the size range.
