Fan of Van Helden but truth be told I just wanted "My My My". Not his best work but I don't think he's out to impress anybody just pump tracks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid House Rock, August 14, 2005

Undeniably, the musicianship contained in these 13 songs is excellent. And poo on you to anyone who still fails to see a computer as a valid instrument.

What truly irks me on this disc, and why I simply could not give it 5 stars, was Virgin Killer. This loud, obnoxious, screamy fellow is featured on four songs! I found myself straining hard to hear the music behind his vocal beltings wishing he would shut up and just let the music play. Some perfectly good tracks are ruined by his screaming.

But, moving on. This album has some truly standout tracks. Whether it's the sexy breathing/screaming of Creme Blush in Come Play With Me, the beautiful repetition of Into Your Eyes, When The Lights Go Down, and MY MY MY, or the funky goodness of tracks like Hear My Name or The Tear Drop, there is definitely something on this album for just about anyone. Monsieur Van Helden manages to acquire, save Virgin Killer, a good collection of featured vocalists that do his very interesting musical style good justice.

If you are a fan of filtered older tracks...
If you are a fan of heavy-hitting guitar-driven dance...
If you are a fan of deep sexy house...
If you are a fan of light poppy funk...
Man, if you are a fan of hip-shaking, groove-making, brain-quaking, earth-shaking OUT and OUT *ELECTRONIC* music...
Then pick this winner up.

And see if Virgin Killer is better than I think he is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Come Play With Me, August 7, 2005
This review is from: Nympho (Audio CD)
This is definately different from Armand Van Helden's previous work. On NYMPHO, he incorporates different styles into the mix. Lots of heavy guitar riffs, that sound great. It's a bit different but it works. The songs are still club friendly and will get you on your feet. My favorites include My My My, Hear My Name, Into Your Eyes, When The Lights Go Down, Come Play With Me and Jenny. Check it out!

4.0 out of 5 stars Last Night I Danced With the DJ - "Come Play With Me", July 23, 2005

Armand Van Helden is without a doubt one of the best dance music producers of our time. Through the span of his career he has contributed a plethora of dance floor hits. "Nympho" is very different from his previous albums but is still Armand at his finest. If you're expecting tracks such as "You Don't Know Me" perhaps this album isn't for you. Armand's music continues to evolve with the times. Anyone that is a true Van Helden fan can appreciate his incorporation of many different styles of music into his productions. This album is definitely reflects Armand's love of rock music but don't be alarmed because the tracks are still floor friendly. From the title track "Nympho" ft. Virgin Killer to "Hot City Nights" the guitars prevail (with a phat bass line of course.) Only Armand can combine guitars w/house music and make it sound this good. Aside from the hits "Hear My Name" and "My My My", "Come Play With Me" ft. Creme Blush and "Jenny" ft. Spalding Rockwell are great tracks w/funny vocals. This is a must have album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD! Lots of Fun well known songs, June 14, 2008

I really love Armand Van Helden's music. He has done great songs like the classic WitchDoktor and my personal favorite Professional Widow with Tori Amos, just to name a few.

I was pleased to buy this cd and find out MY MY MY and Hear My Name as well as a fun revamped version of the 80's classic Look Into Your Eyes.

Great music to dance to and really fun house techno feel.

4.0 out of 5 stars House, Rock, Punk..etc, December 27, 2005
This review is from: Nympho (Audio CD)
Listening to the open track "Nympho", and u'll understand that this album is different from prev Van Helden's offering. Clearly this is neither house nor punk nor rock nor big beat..hell i dun even know how to classify it..but it's still enjoyable.."Into your eyes" has guitar riffs that sounded like the intro to Danzig's classic "Mother".."Juicy Juicy" and "When the lights go down" are uptempo house rock tunes...u can even headbang to them.."Jenny" has Garbage influence pasted all over it..anyways..thumbs up to armand van helden for this all over the place album..its a refreshing change...

People are hating on this because Armand can do so much better. Nevertheless, as a stand-alone work compared to a lot of what is out there thi si snot bad at all. Still, I hope Armand can return to form on his next project and just blow everyone out of the water as he has always been known to do.

3.0 out of 5 stars I was hoping for more..., September 25, 2005
This review is from: Nympho (Audio CD)
The reason I bought this album is because I got totally hooked on My My My and Hear My Name over at The Miistry of Sound's website... I just couldn't get enough of those songs and I thought this cd would offer more along those lines, but I essentially bought the cd for those two songs-Which unfortunately, was about all the cd was good for... I must say I was hoping Armand's other works would be of the same caliber, but the only other songs I really like(after listening to them multiple times for them to grow on me) are "When the Lights Go Down" and "The Teardrop"... The rest of the cd fell pretty flat with mediocrity, and suffered from a serious tone-deafness... And I am not fond of these Virgin Killers, featured on many of the songs... Overall, I was just hoping for something much more...

2.0 out of 5 stars Armand's On Vacation, January 29, 2006
This review is from: Nympho (Audio CD)
Since the first time I heard Witch Doktor, I've been following Armand buying and collecting most of his albums and remixes. I have a huge collection of Armand's work, but this is his WORST album to date. I heard it twice and still found it awful. My My My and Hear My Name really came from his last album NY: A Mix Odyssey. Besides these tracks the only decent track is When The Lights Go Down and it's the club mix that's good. I really hate to say it, but this album sucks!!!

album was alright...not worth buying in the stores though...one of those you can listen to when you're in the mood...good swing to guitar based tech house though...hopefully it will give other greates some ideas for remixes :))
