Nyrius Songo - a great little device,
By

Nyrius Songo
This is a handy little unit that gives you the opportunity to use that stereo unit you’ve neglected because you’ve been listening to your music on your portable device. You know that you do – and either through less-than optimal speakers or earbuds. And every time you see that sleek black electronic unit on your shelf/stand you sigh and wished that you actually still used it. This Nyrius Songo takes away that guilt by becoming a receiving unit from your mobile device and hooking into the stereo a few different ways: through the line-in jack, the game or input RCA jacks, or the TOS link if you have that feature. All three methods seem to deliver the same quality of sound, so really the connection choice is really once of location preference for the wiring. And therein lies really my only negative about this unit and yes, I know it is nitpicky, but this is my review so get over it; because of the light-weight of the Nyrius Songo, the connection cables have too much influence about the staying in position. I think once you find your idea spot (so the you get a good resulting Bluetooth® connection) you need to anchor this with something like double-stick tape, a bracket or something to keep it from being pulled by the outbound connection cable. I forgot to mention the process of pairing with the mobile device and selecting it. I forgot because it was so very easy. No pin numbers to enter, no downloading an application, no hassle. Just Bluetooth® setup, select and go. The mobile devices I tried all gave me the option to use the internal speakers (or headphones) or the Bluetooth® and I could easily switch back and forth between those outputs. An additional wish, and yes, again this is likely just me; I would like to have a means to turn it off when not in use. I will likely accomplish that via running the power cord over to a power strip which I can then control things. Here’s a bonus use as well – if you have the correct power facility in your vehicle and an auxiliary-in 3.5mm jack, you can use it with your car if you can’t currently do that wireless playing now. That was particularly handy when a passenger wanted to play some music from a tablet which did not have a headphone jack to run a cable direct from it to the aux-in jack. I didn’t say it was a great tablet, but it was some good music they were sharing. I would think it would be handy if there were rear-seat passengers wanting to do a similar share. So, I think it is a great little unit. I’m glad I have it. I would certainly think about getting one as a gift for someone that I thought would use it and would certainly recommend anyone reading this and on-the-fence to get it and remove that guilt for ignoring their stereo & those great speakers it has. And finally, I do NOT work for the company; I am simply a person that has music on all the time – car going to work, all day at my desk, in the car coming home, at home even if the TV is on. This until allows me to have that music a little louder and able to hear in more of the house than just right there with the mobile device.

Easy way to add bluetooth connectivity to older receivers and/or powered speakers,
The Nyrius Songo HiFi bluetooth receiver is a small little device that can bring some new skills to your old receiver. I was easily able to coneect it to an old stereo system I had. Once I had it hooked up, about a 2 minute process, I was able to stream music from my iPhone, iPad, laptop, and Nexus 7 tablet to my old receiver. It sounded great. The Nyrius receiver is able to remember pairings with more than one device so if you've got a couple devices paired to it, whichever one is the last one paired will be connected if it is in range, otherwise if that last paired device is unavailable and another previously paired device is on then the Nyrius will connect to that one instead. It's nice that I don't have to reconnect manually each time I want to use a different device. The Nyrius receiver is a small little thing measuring roughly 2 3/4" x 3 1/8" x 3/4". On the back is an aux output, optical output and DC input. The power adapter is 120-240V, 50/60Hz and has a 6' power cord. Also included is a short Aux to RCA connector and a 6' Auxillary cable. If your device is aptX capable, you will notice an improved sound compared to normal bluetooth connection. Either way, this is a wonderful addition to a home stereo. It gives you the flexibility in getting streamed music from several devices to your stereo system or powered speaker. I was provided a sample for review.

A Video Review of the Nyrius Songo,
By With the rapid evolution of portable music many older home stereos and media center became obsolete. First came the iPod/iPhone docs, but with Apple ditching the 30-pin connector many of them also became obsolete. Within the last 18 months (from when I write this) everything has transitioned to bluetooth and NFC devices. The Nyrius Songo allows you add NFC and bluetooth capability to an existing home stereo or ipod dock - through both optical and auxiliary outputs. What you need to make it work- - Some type of amplifier in the video I am using the Griffin 20 - which I like because it has a bluetooth input and a subwoofer output. - Speakers - or an iPhone/iPod dock that can receive an auxiliary input (most can). Notes- - Is NFC and bluetooth enabled - When I turned on the device for the first time my iPad automatically recognized the Nyrius Songo device - making pairing very easy. - It may go with out saying, but you will need speakers and some sort of amplifiers (or powered speakers) - Has both an auxiliary and optical output. While the auxiliary output is rather common - the optical output is the real bonus, since it can deliver a digital output to your higher end devices. - Nice compact design - roughly 1/2 the size of a deck of cards - Requires external power - it is not rechargeable Final verdict - The Nyrius Songo and NFC Receiver is a great way to use your exisitng stero or amplifier s (or a set of high end speakers) into a fully bluetooth and NFC sound system. There are more expensive integrated bluetooth speakers on the market, but the Nyrius Songo can help you forgo the high-end bluetooth speakers and use your older traditional set-up. 4 1/2 Stars Please Note I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review

Compact Bluetooth Receiver,
By This is a very compact Bluetooth receiver and sound quality is excellent! The range is good (across walls and rooms). I've connected this to Polk SoundBar and produces excellent sound. It has both Optical and 3.5 Out. On the -ve side, it is not USB powered and very occasionally hear choppy sound while playing from iPhone.

It works well with ipad retina,
I was looking for a solution to hook up my mobile devices to my old speakers, and the Nyrius BR51 seemed to fit the bill. it's not expensive and small/portable enough to place inside my media cabinet. I've only tried bluetooth with my ipad retina; my ipad scanned and connected flawlessly. the volume was smooth and loud, just as I wanted.
two downsides: i was not able to pair it with my older android phone, which also supports bluetooth. I think it was because my 3-yr old android phone doesn't support the same bluetooth version but i was hoping Nyrius had backward compatibility. the other downside is when I place my ipad on a cushion (i used it in my living room, and cushion is between the Nyrius receiver and ipad); sometimes the audio would cut in & out. overall i am satisfied with the product and I would recommend it.

Nice Little Device. Very useful,
When I first received it, I was surprised how light the box was. Very simple to setup and just so useful. I attached it to a spare receiver in the guest room. Worked great. I also attached it to an old boom box with an aux input that I use outside during BBQs. Worked great. Basically, my cell phone (while next to me at all times) was streaming music on my wifi from spotify and my google play drive and playing on the boom box. Older audio equipment is useful again. Just really cool. The Nyrius box hasn't failed me yet.

It does exactly what I wanted,

I have a pretty big house (3000 sq feet). I wanted a way to work in one room and then move to another room without having to hook up my mp3 player each time. The Nyrius was a simple set up: pair the receiver with my iphone then plug into my stereo. I have a Sony media player (non-bluetooth) in the kitchen. Three rooms away is the Nyrius. When I'm in the living room, all I have to do is power on the Nyrius and I get music through my stereo.
There is a caveat: As stated by a few, you'll want a decent line of sight. As stated, mine is three rooms away (25-30 feet). My iPhone is on my far kitchen counter at an angle pointed mostly at a door. The Nyrius is two rooms away just around the corner in the living room. There aren't any other electronics in the direct line of sight but there are computers off to the side (I don't know if that makes a difference, but I know it can with other bluetooth items). It plays just fine. If I move the system so it's not *just* around the corner (say, more towards the middle of the living room wall so there are two/three full walls in between), the sound gets choppy. That's why I'm giving it only four stars. Another thing to remember is that you'll want to turn it off when done listening to music. If you have it plugged into your iPhone as I do, the Nyrius will pick up all of your calls and blast them through the house! This does, though, show that it works well through ceilings/floors, as I was upstairs and could hear my call being broadcast below into the living room. For the price, it's a great little system. It's small. It's easy to set up. It works over a decent area as long as there aren't too many walls in its way.

Easy pairing, sound lacking.,

Discovery and pairing with Galaxy 4S was immediate. Streaming without hiccups. But when switching to direct connection from phone's 3.5 mm to amp's input for comparison, the sound quality had noticeably improved. Bluetooth is Bluetooth, aptX or not. Definitely worth its money, but beware sound quality.

Very Small Bluetooth Music Adapter,
This review is from: Nyrius Songo Wireless Bluetooth Music Receiver Adapter for Audio Streaming iPhone, iPad, iPod, Samsung, Android, HTC, Windows, Blackberry, Smartphones, Tablets, Laptops to Speaker Systems with 3.5mm Auxiliary Input (BR40) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Weight 32g Dimensions .61" x 2.35" x 2.35" This is a very compact bluetooth adapter. This is the no frills model that Nyrius makes. There are models with NFC, optical and other fancy features but this one does the job very well. The sound is very clear. It also is compatible with all wired speakers that have a 3.5mm plug. I used it with some older computer speakers and was very pleased with the result. I tested this product with iPhones iOS7 & iOS8, iPads and two Mac OSX 10.9 computers. This unit advertises 33 ft. connection and that is accurate, it will rarely go any further, and might not make it that far if there are any obstructions. Also occasionally I had to "wake" this unit by unplugging/replugging it in so that it would repair with my device, it would be a nice improvement if this unit had a "wake" button. Overall I have been satisfied and pleased with the small form factor, I have used several other adapters that were double as large. This unit was provided to me free of charge in exchange for a fair review

This has completely met my expectations. I looked at other options for sending music wirelessly to my stereo receiver and I chose this as the best value for my money.
Very easy setup. I used the optical cable connection, and the music sounds awesome. Small, discrete and totally functional. |
