This product is the best consumer product available for this type of A/V transmission. This product is the best consumer product available for this type of A/V transmission. Using the 5.8MHz band keeps it free of the dreaded microwave oven interference, as well as interference from most cordless telephones. The picture is good, though not perfect. But it's more than adequate for all but the largest TVs (great for a kitchen-sized screen). Be sure to experiment with all four channels to find the one that works best.

The only glitch I have found is with the power. Occasionally the A/V link would fail and I would have to restart either the sender or the receiver, depending on which one failed. Also, occasionally the channel selection would change spontaneously on one unit or the other, thus breaking the link. I solved both of these problems by installing small APC battery backups on both sender and receiver unit. I think electrical storms were at the root of both problems. Since then, I haven't had a single recurrence. I've used these units now for over two years.

We don't use the IR link because we have a different one (made by RCA) that works well and serves other devices not connected by the AVS-5811/5813.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed, September 21, 2008

I used to use the Terk 2.4 Ghz video transmitter, but the microwave oven interference caused me to look for another solution. I saw all of the rave reviews for this product, so I bought in. Big Mistake.
I planned to hook the transmitter in the basement to send my DirecTV signal upstairs to a small dining room TV. The signal was full of static, or would cut out all together. I spent an hour fiddling with the antennas on both ends, but never got a watchable picture. I ended up moving the transmitter to my upstairs DirecTV receiver, which is only about 50 ft down the hallway. I still had to place the transmitter on top of some furniture (about 6 ft high) in order for the signal to reach to receiver. I still have drop out and static problems, but its a watchable picture about 95% of the time. The transmitter and receiver antennas are very sensitive to direction, and any slight movement will cause you to totally lose signal. The IR repeater works OK, but I wish the signal was stronger. I don't know where they get this 300 - 400 ft transmission distance. Maybe if they are in the same room with no objects in between, but my experience has shown that doors and walls really limit your receivable range.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect, January 3, 2008

This review is from: Nyrius NY-GS3200 5.8GHz 6 Channel Wireless Audio/Video Sender Transmitter & Receiver System with IR Remote Extender (Electronics)
My original review was a 5 but after a couple of weeks of use I have had to lower it to a 4. The picture is great but the remote extension isn't up to par with the picture. Some days it works great and other days it won't work at all. Most of the time it is in between and the channel will change when you want except instead of going one channel at a time it starts going through a loop till it gets tired and stops on a random channel. I've also figured out that when using the normal tv source I have to shut off the transmitter in order for the remote on that tv to work properly. The main thing though is that the picture transmitted from the living room to the bedroom is great and the remote issues are simply an inconvenience. This is only a temporary set up for a few months and does what we needed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, solid product, February 26, 2010

Well, I read numerous reviews, mostly favorable, and I took the plunge. I really was not expecting much from this device but I had high hopes. I needed to send video from one cable box to a TV in another room. The reason I feared this may not work is that the box was in a lower level room and the tv was in an upstairs bedroom. Thus the signal would have to go through a ceiling, an outside wall, a bathroom, and then to the receiver in the bedroom. The TV in the bedroom is old so it only has a coxial input (the receiver/transmitters have rca connections) so the receiver had to then run through a rf modulator before going into the tv. When all was said and done, IT WORKED! The picture is great as is the stereo audio. I used the IF extender cable to the box and can control it from the bedroom on the second floor (the infrared extender works on a less powerful frequency than the audio/video 5.8ghz but generally works very reliably- sometimes repeated pushes needed). I have noticed a VERY seldom flicker or breakup but this is incredibly infrequent. The picture really is great. This won't carry HD signals obviously but should work well for all digital satellite and cable systems with RCA outputs on the box. There is no interference from 2.4ghz wireless routers, phones, microwave, other 5.8ghz devices.

This is one case where I had doubts but kept my fingers crossed and relied on reviews. It paid off.

Suggestions:
1. A coaxial output on the receivers would be nice- oh well
2. RESULTS MAY NOT BE TYPICAL!! If you have odd configurations of rooms, lots of rf noise and interference in your neighborhood, conflicting devices running on 5.8ghz, you may not get the reception you need.
3. These don't appear to be incredibly heavy duty- hope they last awhile. So far so good (Update= 2 years and still going strong!)
4. They can get warm and do take up electricity. Not a green geek but I have both units on cheap timers that turn them on/off at times when I am likely to watch.
5. Only the absence of a coaxial input/output hold it back from 5 stars. Otherwise, this is a great product!

Wii Update- This also throws Wii audio and video to another TV in another room without having to move the Wii console (as long as you are within range of the Wii remote's bluetooth signal to the console, which seems to be pretty far, and you have a wireless Wii sensor bar- uses batteries and is available at Gamestop for $19.99). Test the distance of your Wii remote by turning on your Wii console, take the Wii remote to the room with the TV you wish to remotely play Wii on, and try turning off the Wii console. Go back to the Wii console and see if the power is off. If it is, this is a good sign that your Wii remote bluetooth signal is strong enough to enable this remote play setup (although not guaranteed!). My Wii console is in a family room and I can play the Wii in the basement when needed using this setup. You may also find it easier to have 2 sets of Wii A/V cables that you just leave hooked up to your main TV and the 5.8ghz transmitter so you can switch back and forth a bit easier- you just have to plug in the A/V cord into the back of the Wii depending on which TV you wish to play on.

4.0 out of 5 stars strong signal, March 8, 2007

The signal is very strong and its quality its also high, but the range for the remote control extender is very low, the image and sound fly far but you cant control the dvd, satellite or source.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good news, not so good news, March 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nyrius NY-GS3200 5.8GHz 6 Channel Wireless Audio/Video Sender Transmitter & Receiver System with IR Remote Extender (Electronics)
The good news is that it works as advertised except the infrared remote repeater does nothing - nothing for the cable control, nothing for the television control. The bad news is that any movement anywhere near the path between the transmitter and receiver breaks the signal with a loud KHHKTT and visual break as well. Walking into the path does it, towling off after a shower does it (ours is aimed at a TV in the bathroom) and wagging dog tails does it as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Works but the sound quality is poor, December 21, 2009
This review is from: Nyrius NY-GS3200 5.8GHz 6 Channel Wireless Audio/Video Sender Transmitter & Receiver System with IR Remote Extender (Electronics)
I bought this set to replace the cable I ran from the computer to the A/V receiver. The unit mostly works, though unless I had the two in each others open line of sight, there was interference when someone walked around the room. What killed it for me was the poor quality of sound. The manufacturer claims hi-fi sound, but it is anything but. Placing the units right in front of each other did not help. It was just painful to listen to I did not bother with the video as even the sound was unacceptable. It may be ok for just watching tv on an old 32" TV or a low end sound system, but that's about it. I returned the unit and ate shipping both ways. Otherwise the thing would just gather dust.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wireless Audio Video Sender/Receiver, March 9, 2009

Works pretty well for the purpose for which we bought it. We simply wanted our small flat-screen TV in our bedroom to broadcast our satellite programming (since we live in an area where cable is not available and on-air signal is almost impossible to receive). We do have to be watching the same channel on the second TV as what's on the main one, but it works fine for us. Occasionally there is a touch of interference that causes lines across the video and popping noises in the audio, but it's never so bad that we can't continue to view whatever we are viewing at the time. Overall, I give this product 4 out of 5 stars.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not omnidirectional antennas, October 31, 2008
This review is from: Nyrius NY-GS3200 5.8GHz 6 Channel Wireless Audio/Video Sender Transmitter & Receiver System with IR Remote Extender (Electronics)
Difficult to orient antennas- antennas are not omnidirectional and need direct "view". I decided to orient later since it took my more that 2 hours to get a basic image and crappy sound. Distance is not more than 10m and have 2 walls in the middle. I am not sure that this was an intelligent decision.
I don't have any source of interference but a 2.4 GHz telephone...still can't find the way to solve the problem
