3.0 out of 5 stars Great at first
As with others, I had too many optical sources and not enough inputs. this device worked great at first but after a while, I think it started attenuating the optical signal as my decoder could not detect a signal. I think the rotating switch is to blame...maybe it gets dirty over a few months.

The tuner/amplifier that I use for my surround sound system has only one optical audio input. However, both my dvd player and my satellite receiver each have an optical audio output. Prior to obtaining this device, I had to switch these two cables manually.

This switch works very well. It will switch between three optical inputs. The selector locks into place when proper alignment is reached for the desired input source.

This is a great labor saver, and a cost effective option to choose rather than face the expense of purchasing a new tuner/amplifier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works exactly as advertised, January 31, 2007
This review is from: Nyrius SW100 Digital Audio Optical Toslink 3 Input Selector Switch Compatible with Fiber Optic Cables, HDTV, Blu-ray DVD player, PCM, Dolby Digital, DTS, XBOX360, PS3 (Electronics)
Hooked it up and the product works great. I saved myself the hassle of going behind the tv and switching wires around each time I wanted to change the audio source, now all I have to do is turn the knob on this device. Perfect for set-ups that have multiple audio sources and few digital inputs on the receiver. I'm using this with my digital cable box, PS3, and Divx DVD Player. Great product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Stopped working after 2 weeks., July 31, 2010

This review is from: Nyrius SW100 Digital Audio Optical Toslink 3 Input Selector Switch Compatible with Fiber Optic Cables, HDTV, Blu-ray DVD player, PCM, Dolby Digital, DTS, XBOX360, PS3 (Electronics)
I was very pleased with this device at first, using it as a switch between my XBox 360 and PS3. Then the audio started cutting out during DVD/Blu-Ray playback on the PS3. Tried switching to a different port and the whole thing stopped working for both the XBox and PS3. Seems like a cheaply made product with little quality control. It's a shame because this looks like the only option, other than the 'cables to go' version, which appears to be an identical model but with a different label. Oh well, back to manually swapping cables until I can afford to upgrade my receiver.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Stuff!, September 27, 2006
This review is from: Nyrius SW100 Digital Audio Optical Toslink 3 Input Selector Switch Compatible with Fiber Optic Cables, HDTV, Blu-ray DVD player, PCM, Dolby Digital, DTS, XBOX360, PS3 (Electronics)
This thing rocks! I have been looking in every store imaginable for a product where I could accomplish what I needed to do. You can find an optical splitter, but it only splits one digital audio signal into two receivers. I needed several digital audio signals going into one receiver. When I first found this product, I was a little skeptical since no one else locally seemed to carry one. However, after receiving it in a timely manner, I tried it out. The Digital sound quality didn't degrade one little bit! It's an awesome product!

I only have two optical inputs on my receiver and 4 outputs needing to be heard. This gadget works perfectly. No noticeable sound degradation could be heard! I highly recommend this product!

1.0 out of 5 stars Change in Review Stars, Unit FAILED after 5 Months Use! Damaged my HDTV Sound Port also..., August 20, 2011

I don't understand all the negative comments about this switch, because mine works 100% and there is everything to say that is good about it possible. The quality is also fantastic, the switching mechanism is tight and direct and never gives me any trouble, so what's not to like about it? I read here where someone actually took it apart to "fix it" and/or see what's inside of it, and that is just crazy! WHAT do people buy things for anyway? I just don't get it at all...sighhh. If they don't work, simply call or email Amazon.com Customer Support and get it replaced, that's all you have to do!!

My use is simple, and the switch works to give me perfect, sync'd sound control on my Samsung HDTV, a Samsung BluRay Player that I use for listening to Pandora Radio a lot+ Netflix videos much more than I watch BluRay movies--the performance is flawless from the switch. The 3rd item connected to the switch is my Asus Xonar Essence PC Sound Card, and the sound variety coming out of my OEM PC is many sided and varied, so the switch has to work correctly or I would be getting distorted sound when I mix audio tracks, play iTunes and AppleTV movies, videos and music of all sorts, plus the sound from the PC itself is important because I have audible warnings and notifications for various things and it's necessary to operate my programs and applications too. Score? 100% faithful, true, accurate, and exceptional sound from my PC through a set of Logitech HD speakers that get a lot of service in my studio, and I just couldn't expect more from this Nyrius SW100 switch for my optical/digital sound! It works fantastic every time, without fail, and for about $20 or so shipped I don't think anyone will go wrong, or be disappointed with this item!

So what's all the fuss about anyway? I can't find anything to comment negatively about the switch, so it gets 5 Stars, that's about what I have to say and feel about the product! There are no issues whatsoever, and I recommend the Nyrius switch 100% over any and all other choices out there because it's reliable, pretty much fail-safe at that, and I expect a very long service life out of the switch for years and years to come. Do not be swayed by the negative reviews here because I read ALL of them, and most don't make any sense whatsoever other than a couple who somehow received defective switches...and I hope that those people simply got Amazon to replace their order and that they went happily onward after that with a working item.

Buy this switch! Wavey Davey gives it the highest and best endorsement possible, the 5 Gold Stars Award for exceptional performance and quality, and efficient, no-nonsense features, plus it's got a great warranty should anything ever go wrong with it. That factor is highly unlikely because it seems to be a substantial, simple item with parts and pieces that fit well, work 100% perfect every time, so what's to break? Nothing!

Wavey Davey - 8-20-2011

EDIT: FLASH to January 10, 2012, and another story has unfolded to take the place of the great review that I wrote last summer: my Nyrius SW100 3-Port Toslink switcher has failed 100%, does NOT transmit sound out of two ports at all, and intermittently out of the 3rd port, and has damaged my HDTV's Optical Toslink Sound Out Port, apparently, as the HDTV (Samsung 40" House of Color 120Hz LCD HDTV) cannot output any sound through its optical out port anymore...it was on one of the Nyrius ports that has failed, the other device on a Nyrius port that failed was my BluRay player, a Samsung also.

I have sent my Nyrius SW100 back for a refund from Amazon.com, while I pursue a remedy to the HDTV's woes with its Toslink port and try to figure out why it happened in the 1st place. I am trying to find an acceptable replacement Toslink 3-5 port switcher but so far no luck, maybe because I've only tried here at Amazon.com, where everything is Toslink/Nyrius, strange as that seems! Thus they have no competition at all here at Amazon.com, and that's a bad thing for everyone, nothing to compare with, nothing to buy should the Nyrius devices fail or prove impossible to set up for one reason or another.

That's the story from Wavey Davey, and kind of a different, sober, and non-delusionary post from me at that, right? Take your time with assessing products, as it's best to wait a couple months before reviewing them, and reviewing them candidly and openly without prejudice, objective if possible. OK, I'm off to find an alternative to Nyrius on the 'Net somewhere, or at another Etailer at that if necessary, because there's no horse like a spooked horse, and that describes me right now to a 'T'!

5.0 out of 5 stars Digital Audio Optical 3 link, March 9, 2008
The Toslink digital Optical 3 link was recieved via regualr mail, in a yellow medium .99 mailer. The only protection was that of the small bubble wrap in the orginial box. Looked new, I was worried that it might have been handled roughly, during shipping as it was not packed as should have been for the way it was built. For the cost of the shipping it should have been better. Item does work, but time will tell. I have it conencted to my Direct Tv, Toshiba HD DvD, Playstaion 3 and my Toshiba reciever to the DvD Optical side. No instructions, you have to snap each cable into the switchbox until you here a small click. Be careful, as the optical cables have to go in a certain way. The switchbox is not heavy, in order to switch you have to hold the device and turn the knob. For the price, not a big deal, 101 percent cheaper than buying a new reciver with three optical inputs. I have ony two on mine.
Again item is great, shipping/packaging can be improved...
