Red Oak is a popular woodworking wood that is both strong and durable. Red Oak has a coarse texture and is generally straight grained and ranges in color from white to light brown sapwood with pink to reddish brown heartwood. It generally works well but to avoid splitting pre-boring is advisable when nailing and screwing. It both glues and finishes well without any of the blotching problems associated with maple or birch. Given its strength, durability and dimensional stability Red Oak is commonly used in a wide range of products such as: flooring, cabinets, furniture, mantles, millwork and wooden boxes. From our own mill, Nucasa has been crafting solid wood moldings since 1983.
