After Hurricane Ike, I decided to buy two of these units. This two-speed fan quietly cranks out a LOT of air, folds up for compact storage, and can be powered by AC plug or 8 "D" cells. This isn't one of those feeble anemic camp fans; it's a real, full-sized 10" fan!

(NOTE: I just read in other reviews that said there may be an electrical problem with some of the AC "bricks." I think I'll stick to battery power.)

It lists a tremendous 72 hours life on a set of batteries. I haven't used it enough, but even if it only lasts 36 hours, it's a bargain!

The fan appears tough and fairly well-made, has a fold-up carrying handle and a hook for suspension or can sit on a table on a clever battery-base.

The one big drawback is the battery installation. Man, it's a fight to insert those "D" cells! This fan is tough, but I could easily see breaking the battery case or snapping a wire or contact spring. VERY tight fit with Duracells, and it might not be possible with a larger off-brand battery. So, 4 out of 5 stars.

NEW NOTE 7/12/10: I noticed today someone was charging over (rhymes with nifty) dollars for this fan. WAY, WAY too expensive. I bought it for half that price.

POOR MAN'S A/C: I recently heard of people setting up these fans so they blow across a bag of ice to create a mini-air conditioner. Great idea!

Over the summer we've had a few times when the electricity went out for several hours (thank goodness not days, though some of the areas around went days without power). During one of these spells I decided to purchase a portable battery operated table fan and came upon this at Amazon. It's got more breeze power than I expected! There's a low and high setting and both pack quite a breeze. It does take 8 D cell batteries. A few other reviews from people stated difficulty with putting the batteries in the battery compartment, but I had no problem at all. I found it quite easy. This fan also comes with an AC power cord so you can plug it into an electrical outlet as well. But I just wanted it to have around so that next time I was without power on a very hot summer day or night, I could comfort myself with a strong breeze while waiting for the house electricity to be restored. Well worth the purchase.

The fan it replaced was supposed to be the same one. Unfortunately, this new one didn't come with the little plastic hook on top to hang it. I use it in my camper and so I was very disappointed. Of course the fan itself works fine but not so great for me.

I can't get the company to send me the right fan. The one in the picture that I pick out has a hook on the handle which is important for my intended use. I keep getting a fan without the hook. See I had one with the hook before in which we hook to our stroller to keep our babies cool while doing outside activities, it worked great for about 2 years. I have recently had another child and would like to get a fan with a hook to do the same and I have tried twice now by sending the first one back and reordering it again because I was told that it would get done right and still received a fan with no hook.

I needed a fan in the unforeseen circumstance of a power outage in summer. In reality, I'd likely stay in a hotel, but j figured I could use this in a few different scenarios. In my UTV when I need some wind. In my basement where it can get quite warm.

The fan has the ability to run off of batteries or through an AC outlet. There are two power settings, Low and High. For the size, it's very effective. It's also relatively quiet. The base allows different angles of direction.

Portability, versatility and functionality are three excellent attributes of this fan.

Two thumbs up.

Does exactly what I hoped. Moves air in our van to keep pets comfortable who ride in back. LIving in a hot climate required something along with air conditioning to move air effectively. This does it and it is stable, quiet; no fear of cats knocking it over. Safe as well because they can't get noses and paws through the grill. Like it, too, because of being able to plug in when inside.
