5.0 out of 5 stars Bring a cool breeze to where you are going.
I HAD to review this after reading the only other review for this fan. I am certain I have reviewed this fan for Amazon before, but for some reason don't see it here. I use two of these fans to move air around in my 20x10 Swiss Gear tent while camping in Texas. It is made from plastic and like all other plastic products, it is breakable if you muscle your way to using it...

1.0 out of 5 stars Battery Installation requires a Miracle
I bought this fan, model 1054, for use in our tent. But we can use it only at home, plugging it in with the adaptor. The battery compartment is poorly made, and as you install batteries they keep popping out. Also, the contacts don't line up correctly, so even after I got all the batteries in, the cover wouldn't close because one battery sticks up somewhat...

I HAD to review this after reading the only other review for this fan. I am certain I have reviewed this fan for Amazon before, but for some reason don't see it here. I use two of these fans to move air around in my 20x10 Swiss Gear tent while camping in Texas. It is made from plastic and like all other plastic products, it is breakable if you muscle your way to using it wrong, but usage is fairly straight forward. To open the leg, simply swing it down from the back of the fan on its hinge. Opening the battery compartment is fairly simple as well if you understand what lock, and unlock icons mean. The fan moves LOTS of air, and the ones I own have taken plenty of abuse being tossed into and out of the back of my truck for the last two years. My only complaint with them is the battery compartment cover is a little tough to get back on until you figure out exactly how it works, and on high it will suck an expensive set of D cell batteries down in 24 hours. If you use these a lot, I would STRONGLY recommend getting a couple of sets of rechargable D cells and a charger, OR getting the model with the built in rechargable batteries. I like that this model is also available with a transformer that you can use to run it off of 110v power, which makes camping in sites with electricity much less of a drain in the wallet! I rated this fan a 5 as I feel it is the best of its breed. It is NOT to be compared to a corded box fan or anything like that since you do different things with them. But this fan is the absolute best of its kind that I have tried. I have used several different models from Coleman, this thing moves so much more air that there really is no comparison. The Coleman fans simply do not move air like this thing does...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great fan, good battery life, needs to spend 5 more minutes on the design floor, November 12, 2010

This review is from: O2-Cool Model 1054 10" Indoor/Outdoor Fan (Kitchen)
I bought this fan to keep my girlfriend and I cool during a camping trip this spring. We needed something portable yet powerful with enough battery life to buy us a few hours in the morning once the sun came up (as everyone knows, tents turn into ovens as soon as the first rays of sunlight appear).

This fan worked GREAT. The battery life works as advertised and it moves quite a bit of air without making too much of a ruckus. The stiff hinge allows you to point the fan wherever you want and holds it in position nice and solid like, and it folds up flat enough to stuff it into a backpack if needed. It does take a TON of batteries but again, they last a really long time. This fan kept us very cool and comfortable (Enough to sleep in a little too much, actually!)

The only problem (as my title suggests) is that the battery "lid" or cover is designed really poorly. It's a huge pain to lock and unlock the lid and you have to push pretty hard to get it into place. The lid itself is thin and cheaply made. If the fan tumbles around too much I'm pretty sure you'll end up with D batteries all over the place.

Also, the on switch is very easy to activate accidentally; all you have to do is brush up against it. When we were driving home we couldn't figure out where the "wrrrrrrrr" noise was coming from in the car until we got home (5 hours later) and found that a blanket had turned the fan on. The good news? The batteries still lasted forever :)

Synopsis: despite the design flaws, this fan is AWESOME. If you're trying to keep cool while camping, buy this fan. That is all.

I bought this due to potential power failure in winter times here in Missouri, as last couple of years Ice storms seem to knock power out for a week. I use this little fan to help stir the air in the room, with the fireplace. Read some reviews about a capacitor or resistor blowing up. However, so far that has not happened to me. I would suggest, REMOVE THE BATTERIES IF YOUR GOING TO USE THE AC ADAPTER. I dont believe this unit is safe when using on AC when the batteries are still in the fan. Just advice to others. Otherwise, so far I havnt seem to have any problems yet. It moves a far amount of air for a small battery fan. PS use alkaline batteries. If you use rechargeable, batteries, dont leave them in the fan , when you use the AC cord. This unit is not to charge batteries.

I wish I had returned it for a refund, but we had taken it along on our trip and discarded the box, thinking this would be a GOOD and USABLE fan. Paying so much extra for the battery option was a waste of money and very frustrating.

The model # 1078 has a much better battery compartment; we have it; it works well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad battery compartment design/construction, August 24, 2009
This review is from: O2-Cool Model 1054 10" Indoor/Outdoor Fan (Kitchen)
The battery compartment is badly designed; when batteries are inserted, the contact points do not touch the batteries properly such that you have to squeeze/twist the compartment for it to work. I do not recommend this fan if you want to use it with batteries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate portable fan, July 16, 2010
This review is from: O2-Cool Model 1054 10" Indoor/Outdoor Fan (Kitchen)
I bought this fan a year ago when my elderly dog couldn't handle temperature in the house greater than 75 degrees. Either we ran the A/C all day just for him or we put a fan near his bed. I didn't want to run up my electric bill when it wasn't really that hot so I decided to try a fan. He liked it but whenever he went to a different room in the house I had to unplug and plug the fan each time. That got annoying real quick so I went out to buy a battery powered fan, something grab n' go. Turns out there aren't any except this one, not that I was able to locate. Batteries can be expensive but nothing compared to running the A/C. I put it near his bed and turned it on low. This fan ran for hours every day without a problem. I loved that it was convenient for me and made him comfortable. It got us through the summer and then I packed it away. It's back out again working as well as ever even though our dog is no longer around to enjoy it (he passed away last month at 18 yrs old).

Oh, another thing I really like about this fan is that it folds up very narrow, easily slips into tight spaces for storage and is easy to tilt. Love that is has a handle. I wasn't expecting to like this fan more than the Vornado but it's now the one I go to first when the temps heat up.

2.0 out of 5 stars False Advertising, June 3, 2011

The Cool 02 Fan model 1054 does not run for 72 hours as described in the writeup for the product. I just received mine and the box says: "Up to 40 hour battery life" and then in another spot: "Battery life is determined using low speed". The box also clearly states it is a model 1054, so I did not receive the wrong or a substitute product. I ordered the 1054 and paid about ten dollars more than the model 1071 because it claimed to have a longer battery life. Haven't figured out why they think this model deserves a premium price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Could have burned down my house, March 5, 2009

When it worked it moved quite a bit of air for a fan of its size but after about a year and a half of light to moderate usage the resistor for the switch burned out. The AC adapter was so hot I nearly burned myself on it and when I disassembled the fan I found a severely scorched switch assembly.

Something tells me a recall should be in order before someone gets hurt.

5.0 out of 5 stars I would only buy this as a battery fan, July 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: O2-Cool Model 1054 10" Indoor/Outdoor Fan (Kitchen)
Ordered 3 -- one was defective (wouldn't turn off if the batteries were in).

Only would buy this as a battery fan. For the price, if you don't need battery function, you'll be disappointed, and this is a waste of money -- there's better fans, cheaper at Walmart, etc.

If you want a battery fan, and you want as large as you can get, this is the best fan I've found. We use it to run in a car if we leave the dog behind in mildly warm temperatures, but don't want to take any chances. The batteries last a while on the low setting; it runs on 8 D's.

Airflow is good, not good if it was compared to an AC fan, but excellent compared to other battery fans in its class.

Finally, just to be clear, the 5 stars is based on what it's sweet spot is -- batteries. I am not including it's performance on AC -- didn't try it, not interested, and I can see how the electronics which are basic could get overloaded with AC power which other reviewers have said.

The resister in the 10" Battery/AC fan exploded after 3 days of use, as well as the AC plug in would become extremely hot after 30-45 minutes of use. I would be wary about this Product
