4.0 out of 5 stars Tonex brings the Word and the funk
For those of you who already like Tonex, this CD is a must have. For those of you who have never heard of him, Tonex is a highly creative musician who sings God's word. He is capable of straight ballads, funk, just about anything. Vocally, he is capable of Prince like workouts and pulls some neat production tricks in the studio under his 't-boy' alias. 1.0 out of 5 stars This CD is kind of WHACK!!
I only like a couple of song on this album. It's probably cuz I don't like all those different types of music. But I'm gonna keep it real most of the songs it sounds like he has a machine for his voice. But I have to him some props because he can sing in different styles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tonex brings the Word and the funk, April 15, 2002

For those of you who already like Tonex, this CD is a must have. For those of you who have never heard of him, Tonex is a highly creative musician who sings God's word. He is capable of straight ballads, funk, just about anything. Vocally, he is capable of Prince like workouts and pulls some neat production tricks in the studio under his 't-boy' alias. Most important is the message he communicates, a love for the Lord. Tonex gives you tunes like "Bout a Thing" that are so bouncy you cannot forget them and on the other side, a slow jam like "God Has Not 4got" that is just a beautiful ballad. If you like old time gospel and not the nu thing, you may not like this but for those of you who want to hear God's word and some excellent R&B/rap/funk music, this is the place to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars I sho' wish I could put 6 stars up there!!, August 4, 2005

This album is so bumpin!! It is like nothin I've ever heard before in gospel music. It was this album that made me hooked to Tonex like I am. Every song is KRUNK. Did you hear what I said. Every song!! Not 3 of the songs, not 6 of the songs, not 10 of the songs. Every one! This is a revolutionary album and can't nobody touch it. I though Kirk Franklin was as tough as it gets, shoot I was mistaken!! This is definetly, without a doubt the krunkest album I've got. If you buy this album, you will be blown away! Maybe not the 1st time, but gradually you will begin to love it. Out the Box and Pronounced Toe-nay is krunk too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-Rounded Material., December 22, 2003
This review is from: O2 (Audio CD)
Words can't even begin to express how talented and how powerful this brotha is. Tonex is an amalgamation of Prince, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Andrae Crouch. It's evident in his material that his level of artistry runs deeper than just the typical gospel music record. With the soul of Al Green, the vocal range equally as strong or even stronger than Stokley (Mint Condition's lead singer) and the charisma of P. Diddy, this man is truly the real-deal in the gospel music genre and the urban music market. His level of creativity is astounding as well. He produced every song on the album under the moniker T.Boy and was a delegate of his production company as O'ryn. Each one of his names seemingly have a meaning to them in his own way. As artists, everyone's level of creativity has to be at a point where people relate to your motive for why you wrote and performed a specific song and why you are what you are. That's exactly what he says in the the first song, the title track, "O2." He says "get high on your creativity and flaunt your craft not your sexuality." Other songs that speak volumes to me is his well-produced & arranged "The Beautiful Place." This song is told as if he envisioned heaven in a dream he had. The song is so vivid when he and his choir overdubs start mimicking "we have overcome" followed by Swahili, Japanese, and Hispanic translations of how we have defeated the enemy and worshiped together in heaven. Deep!! "Anything," a love song from God to anyone who converses with him (ironically a mid-tempo love song to his wife as well.) The first single, "God Has Not 4got," "Tumblin'," "Help" a cry for God to stop teenage violence like the Columbine High School incident. Every track ministers to me in a different way and his style is timeless, inspiring me to take music ministry to "Another Level." Get ready music fans and look out for his new cd and to all artists out there, your creativity needs to be cherished and you must be able to give all music lovers some unique tastes of your material. In short, you must always think "Out The Box!!!"

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: O2 (Audio CD)
I'll admit it- this was an impulse buy at first. I had just watched his awsome music video on WoW Gospel 2003, and I just went ahead and bought it. When the CD arrived a week later, I ploped it in, and I what I heard was totally unexpected- the first song is nothing like 'Bout a Thang. The first time throught the entire CD wasn't impressing me. But the more I listen to it, the more I love it! Please give this CD a try! If anything Tonex has a great way of making great lyrics fit into music that the world lives by. If peole really never payed attention to the lyrics, then some songs in here could be played all day on the radio. But since our God is so mighty, many people are afraid to let Tonex bring the light back to the music scene. Just take the song O2- not many christians have said 'two girls kissing' in any context! His love songs are also always on track- I simply must say this CD is great. I gotta stop. BUY IT!

This cd is tight! His beatz make you want to bob your head and dance! His vocalz are the tightest! The melodyz and lyrics really do speak right to your heart. Yes, I LOVE THIS CD! His best work yet! You won't get tired of this project. For some reason it always sounds fresh. Unlike most music out there(that is so trendy and void of lyrical content)this cd will move people with a positive message for years to come. A true artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars He did it again, April 12, 2002
This review is from: O2 (Audio CD)
He did it again!! He came out with a good contemporary album with his unique sound that makes you want to dance.

His slower songs really minister to your spirit, again.

He also has a good song on there for Christian married couples. You can tell he loves his wife.

5.0 out of 5 stars Usher could only dream of making music like this!!!!, September 15, 2004
This review is from: O2 (Audio CD)
I mention Usher in the title because I heard some nutcase call him a "musician". When I hear comments like that it really really ruffles my feathers, because all these people do is watch MTV and think that the garbage they see on there is "real" music, and real musicians, like Tommy Sims (check out his album on Amazon folks - you won't regret the trip), and Tonex get overlooked. It's amazing!

But anyway, O2 is one of the best albums period out there. I'm talking about in all genres of music now. If your a Michael Jackson/Prince fan, this guy is both of them wrap up in an anointed package. After listening to songs like the dreamy "Beautiful Place", the amazingly arranged "Seasons", the buttery sounding "Inspiration", the electrifying "Help", and the unique sounding "O2", it will make you wonder how come the Grammy's aren't knocking down his door with every (and I mean EVERY) award that pertains to a solo artist, whether it be gospel or otherwise. He is that good folks. If you have just heard his first album, then you might have made the mistake of putting him in the Neo-soul gospel box, like I did. However, after you have heard Pronounced Toe-Nay, O2, and more recently Out The Box, you will see how amazing this guy is.

Also, what I like about Tonex is that it seems that on any album he does, he tries to reinvent himself. On 'Toe-Nay, he mostly stuck with the Neo-Soul/Hip-Hop genre with some traditional gospel thrown in. Then on this album, he TOTALLY changes his sound, with not a shred of Neo-soul anything. And recently on Out The Box, he throws in a choir to back him up! If you are a musician at heart or by talent, you have to love the fact that he's always trying something new, and not try to stay in a box so to speak, as a hip-hop gospel artist, or a neo-soul gospel artist or a traditional gospel artist or a jazz/funk gospel artist and so on. He is always trying something new. That's what separates artists like Prince, R.Kelly, Stevie Wonder, Tommy Sims, and yes, Tonex, from the rest of the pack. If you don't have his most recent album, Out The Box, GET IT NOW! You won't regret it. I'm drooling over what's coming next from this guy, because after listening to his production, I yearn for more.
