I get this Craving...,
By Erik's Angel (Missouri, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: O2 (Audio CD)
"O2", the LONG awaited second album by pop group O-Town, is out and *hOt*. The thirteen track album is a dream come true for any O-Town fan, with a great mix of fast, slow, R&B, pop, and other various sounds of music. Here's a rundown of each of the songs...1-> From The Damage--[Medium] A GREAT way to start the album. It shows some really great strength's that of the boys have vocally. A definite 5/5 stars. 2-> These Are The Days--[Slow] Their first single from "O2"! Great song. It definitely wouldn't have been my first choice for a single [at least their first single], but it's still a great song. 5/5 stars. 3-> I Only Dance With You--[Medium] Erik *DOMINATES* this song! At least the beginning [and if you couldn't tell I'm a definite Erik fan]. A GREAT song. Erik's voice is hypnotizing at the beginning! 5/5 stars. 4-> Favorite Girl--[Fast] Great song! If you enjoy music by Nelly, I definitely suggest this track - it's his! 5/5 stars. 5-> I Showed Her--[Slow] Beautiful song. The piano in the background really sets the scene - and Dan and Erik's voices are magnificent all the time, but definitely shine in this song. 5/5 stars. 6-> Been Around The World--[Fast] I can't get enough of this song. It has a GREAT beat, some great words. This probably would have been my choice for their first single. 5.5/5 stars. 7-> Make Her Say--[Fast] This is DEFINITELY one of my favorites. It definitely let's everyone know how O-Town feels about some things at the beginning of the song, and just never stops! 6/5 stars. 8-> The Joint--[Fast] Great song. It's about that song that you want the DJ to play to try to snag your guy or gal. *wink wink* 5/5 stars. 9-> Suddenly--[Medium] Beautiful lyrics to this song. It **REALLY** shows some of the great things about O-Town; it shows how their voices fit perfectly together and... it just shows their talent. 6/5 stars. 10-> Craving--[Slow] This is *THE* most beautiful O-Town song out there. When I hear this song, my heart skips beats. The first time I heard it I fell in love with it - if I didn't have this album and heard this one song I would buy it JUST for this song. It's definitely a great song, and it would be a great single for them to release later. 8/5 stars. 11-> Over Easy--[Medium to Fast] This was my favorite song that I had heard before I got the album. I heard this song on various TV shows before "O2" was released, and this was my favorite song I heard. This is still a favorite for me. A great song! 7/5 stars. 12-> Girl Like That--[Fast] Any "Making the Band" buffs out there? This is the song that Trevor, Dan, Ashley, and Rich Cronin presented to Clive! Great song, definite beats. Great song. 5/5 stars. 13-> You Can't Lose Me--[Slow] There's not much I really have to say about this song, actually. It's a great song... but I don't really have much more to say about it. 5/5 stars. Everyone says that O-Town can't write?

Sophomore WHAT?!?,
By Dani (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: O2 (Audio CD)
O-Town has come a long way since being "lab rats" on Making The Band. Fearful of falling into the "Sophomore Slump" the guys begged for more freedom on their second album. The result was getting to write most of the album and to make it represent them as a group, and not their record company. The songs on "O2" truely show the growth of this young boy band. "These Are The Days" is the first single and is a preview of the album. If you are looking for cheesy teen-pop, you better look somewhere else. Maturing enough to mold George Michael's "Careless Whisper" into the bold "I Only Dance With You" proves that the guys can handle REAL music too. By writing their own music, the lyrics are much more deep. "From The Damage" the first track on the album, and written by Ashley Parker Angel, clearly shows that. These guys are able to write legit music when given the chance. This album is for anyone that outgrew Pop music and is looking for more mature songs. If you like rock, this album is for you. If you like r&b, this album is also for you too. After the first couple songs, you will definitely realize the work O-Town put into this album and appreciate it for everything it's worth, no matter what kind of music you are into.

Is This the Same O-Town?!?,
By Tom "Tom" (Oregon, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: O2 (Audio CD)
When the boybands themselves start realizing that the "boyband era" as we know it is dead and change the style of music they sing, it leaves little doubt that the genre's days are severely numbered. "O2" is perhaps the most striking shift in sound that I've ever witnessed between two consecutive albums by the same artist. Ashley, Jacob, Erik, Dan, and Trevor did a very smart thing by trading in the "same-old lame-old" hormonal high-school synth-pop droning that plagued their debut album, in favor of the guitar-and-drums foundation of a more rough-around-the-edges, r&b/rock hybrid sound. The result is a much better album, not just in terms of the music, but in terms of the vocals as well. This music better complements their less-than-perfect (but still good) voices, and the guys sound like they know it. The passion they put into their vocals this time around tells us that this is the kind of music they've wanted to make from the start. The album starts out strongly with the mid-tempo rocker "From The Damage" and their first single "These Are The Days". The album does seem to "re-lapse" into boyband pop occasionally, with unremarkable tracks like "Favorite Girl" and "Girl Like That", but bounces right back with the top-notch soft ballad "I Showed Her", and the excellent power ballad "Craving". And the O-Town boys also prove that they still have a good dance-pop tune in them with the surprisingly catchy "The Joint". One of the disappointments on the album is "I Only Dance With You", which incorporates part of George Michael's "Careless Whisper" (the music of the chorus, with approximated lyrics). Sorry, but I just don't like these "half-covers" like Sean ("P. Whatever-He-Calls-Himself-This-Week") Combs does. I'd rather have a straightforward cover, thank you ... and I get one on this album with the fairly decent "Been Around The World". It's not 100% faithful to the original tune, but just different enough to keep my interest. I suppose that if there's one thing we can thank Lou Pearlman for, it's for giving these young guys who want to be pop stars their big break. As schmaltzy and unimagintative as most of these boybands' first albums are, they have invariably gone on to make better music, and O-Town is no exception. This album may not be fantastic, but I'm hoping that we'll see a third album from them, to see how much closer to fantastic they get.

Could have been better,
By Lindsay (Philadelphi, PA) - See all my reviews

Ok as many o-town fans know the release of O2 was pushed back 10+ times the original release date was sometime in June or July. Clive Davis seems to have lost his touch in music. The boys of o-town having submited 38+ songs for this album, only recived 6 out of 13 songs on the album wiritten by them. Two song that i know were worth of O2 , that disappointed MANY fans were 1. American Game, which yes is on the These Are The Days single, but it still should have made it to O2. 2.Death Wish, death wish the guys preformed as part of their O2 Preview tour and was much much much more rockier then any of the songs on O2 now. Clive Davis i think was afraid to put the guys into one Style of music and tried to please too many people on O2 some of the songs are just plain old corny pop. For o-town fans all we can do is hope and pray that either the guys DO get driped from J records and picked up w/another lable who will give them the freedom to write what they want. or that Clive Davis will see them for their real talents because they are very talented writters and their talents need to be seen.

o2 is a great cd!,
By Katie (Ct, Usa) - See all my reviews

This cd is seriously the best cd i have ever heard. O-town has grown so much since their first album. As their first album was great their new one is 100 times better. The new songs are of such good quality and not just pop songs with no meaning. Their hard work on their sophmore almbum really shows on their well written half of the cd. Their vocals are strong and the fact that they pick up the guitar for many songs makes it even better. O-town is definitly heading it the right direction. From the Damage a song written by Ashley Angel is one of the best ones on there, its a really powerful song full of heart and meaning. Craving and Suddenly also written by Ashley Angel are great songs as well, they definitily go beyond the standards of a regular pop song. All the others excellent as well, I dont think i will ever get tired of listening to this cd. Their songs have definite depth and rock and r and b influences. Their talent shines through in this cd. It is definitily the best cd I have heard in a long time. I hope they continue to take their music in this direction becuase it is the right move...they are much better then they get credit for hopefully this album proves their talent to all those who dont know.

Can't Fight This Craving.....,
By A Customer
This review is from: O2 (Audio CD)
Wow is all I have to say about O-Town's sophomore album! It is truly worth the wait! The guys have gotten more of their own written songs on this album and they're pretty good. Here's my reviews of the tracks on this album:1. From the Damage: When I first heard this song on a TV concert, I was totally hooked. I loved this song from the start. It's a great way to start the album. ***** 2. These Are the Days: Although I wasn't too fond of this being the first single off O2, it has a great sound to it. Like a calm rock kind of vibe. This song has grown on to me, and I'm now happy that this was their first single off the album. ***** 3. I Only Dance With You: This seems like a cover song of something... although I can't remember at the moment. Great song to dance to! *** 4. Favorite Girl: This song is very cute in a way, and I love listening to it. Nelly wrote AND produced this, and it's not that bad. **** 5. I Showed Her: A ballad/love song. This song really got to me when I first heard it on t.v., Dan's voice is soooo heart-melting on this song, as well as Erik's. A very beautiful song. **** 6. Been Around the World: The first thing I thought when I heard this song was "pop". Although this is not one of my favorite tracks on the album, I think it's an okay song. Reminds me of Europe for some strange reason.... *** 7. Make Her Say: I heard a little sample of this and it instantly made me want to dance! There's nothing much to say about this song, but it has a great R&B vibe to it (Erik co-wrote it!). **** 8. The Joint: Just like "Make Her Say", except.... this has a slower beat to it. But it's still good! *** 9. Suddenly: Oh my gosh! The first time I heard this, I fell in love with this song. It's one of my personal favorites on the album, and I just think it's so beautiful! I think this would make a wonderful second single for the guys! ****** 10. Craving: Also as wonderful as "Suddenly". It digs very deep in your heart, and is very beautiful. I love this song as well, and it would also make a great second single for the guys. ****** 11. Over Easy: The very beginning of this song is just so sad.... I love it! One of the best songs on the album. ***** 12. Girl Like That: Ever since they played that little snippet on MTB, I've been waiting to hear the whole version of this, and once I did, I absolutely loved it! Great song to dance to.... Reminds me of going out and clubbing with your best friends. ***** 12. You Can't Lose Me: Uhhh... This is an okay song, but it's written by Diane Warren, and she write great love songs/ballads. *** Although the guys got some of their own songs on this album, I'm saddened by the fact that Jacob did get any of his songs in, which makes me wonder..... Anyway, the album leans toward more of the rock/R&B type of thing, so if that's the kind of music you like, then get the CD! O2 has a variety of different types of music and will be liked by anybody with a huge of musical taste. All in all, I suggest you should buy O-Town's "02" because it is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time.

Loved the first one, LOVE the second! I heard "From the Damage" on their website a while ago and i went back there everyday to listen to it over and over again! The guys really grew from being a "so called" boyband and that very... interesting performance at the miss america pageant a few years ago to becoming real artists and writing their own music, which is actually REALLY GOOD, to those of you who don't think that "boybands" can't write(i'm not dissing "Take Me Under" from their first CD which was [to me] the best track on their first cd). They really show what they are capable of in their new cd. [i went out and bought it on the first day, what can i say? i'm obsessed.]There aren't a lot of cds out there that you can listen from beginning to end, but this one you can. and that's saying something since the guys wrote like practically every song on the album! Bottom line: GREAT CD, BUY IT, WON'T REGRET IT!

A real step forward,
By A Customer
This review is from: O2 (Audio CD)
OK, I do like pop music.... but, while I thought O-Town's first CD was pretty good, I did feel there were several weak songs. This second album was a long time coming, with a number of delays, but it really is worth the wait. O2 is a big step forward for this group. It definitely takes them beyond typical "boy band" territory. Half of the songs are written by members of the band this time. They are all well-arranged, with a strong guitar sound, and vocals that show the guys are developing as singers. The stand-out cuts are the first two: "From the Damage" (co-written by Ashley) and "These Are The Days," which is their first single. Both of these songs are catchy pop songs, but they are also extremely well-crafted, and the lyrics are meaningful and obviously deeply felt. I don't know if this will be what the young girls want from a boy band, but if the girls who originally were fans are growing up and want something a little deeper this time, it's perfect. O-Town is obviously made up of talented guys, who are extremely hard-working. I hope this is a success for them, and can escape the notorious sophomore jinx. I really like this CD.

Do not be discouraged by the sound of the 1st CD!,
By A Customer
This review is from: O2 (Audio CD)
This CD, unlike the 1st effort by O-Town, has SUBSTANCE. There are far less sexual references (if any at all), and the sound is just totally different from the 1st CD. Can you believe it- There many tracks on this album that could pass as soft rock! Beautiful guitar playing mixed with beautiful voices (and no cheesy pop ...!) makes O2. This CD is a must have. I advise you to listen to "Craving". This is by far the best track on this CD. Yearning for that special someone? Listen to that song while you are "craving" that person and I promise you wll get chills. Favorite Girl is also heart-wrenching and has substance.I give it a 4 out of 5 because "Make Her Say" is not such a good track. It's the only rap song on here and I can't stand rap. I was surprised that this was put on here. I love this CD. Get it! |
