Powerful, coherient, uplifting and unified,
By
This review is from: O3 (Audio CD)
The deep emotional appeal of Sunscreem's O3 is somewhat difficult to describe. My older sister had this album on cassette when I was in high school and I happened to listen to it once, then countless times over the next few months. When she left for college I forgot about it. That was until two days ago (8 years later) when I was extremely drained emotionally due to some recent events in my life. I suddenly found myself with some of the melodies and started searching for source. Yesterday I found it (thanks to the sample files here).
Its overall genre is electronica (house/trance) but I've never heard anything like it before or since. This album carried me through some difficult times and can truly be an escape from the life you know or simply an adventure for your senses. The album is seamless - great to work to, read to, or just relax with. I can't think of another album I could recommend more if anything in your life is currently straining your emotions.

A Complete Album,
By
This review is from: O3 (Audio CD)
The synth-pop hit "Love U More" got me hooked enough to buy the album in 1993 not too long after it came out. Naturally, I expected a typical pop album: The song I liked, plus maybe one or two more decent songs and a lot of filler. What I got was a complete album, beginning-to-end. It's one of those rare gems you can stick in the player, listen for an hour, and not feel the need to fast-forward anywhere. I don't even know the names of my most favorite songs, since I never skip around to get to them -- I just listen. It's got a nice mix that flows evenly from trance to pop to dance and back, and yet it keeps a contiguous, unified feeling that never grates on you the way pop albums so often do. Today, almost 9 years later, it's still one of my favorite albums as a whole.

Trance-sendingly Powerful,

I actually saw this band in concert in Seattle (must have been '93-ish). I didn't expect anything: Some no-name band playing techno-house (live? Yes, Live) in a dingey, grungy back-alley type bar... I only went 'cuz I was dragged by a friend to go... :-p
Man - they were amazing! I bought the CD, Album & took one of the posters from the concert - - it hung on my wall for the next few years (man - wish I still had that). One thing about this CD that I LOVE is all the songs blend together. In my younger dayz (did I say that?) I would beat-match and mix music, and I must say, this album got some plenty fine playtime... I recently came across the CD (all I have left) when I bought my iPod. Sure is great to listen to this again! If you like Rave/Techno/Electronica/Dance/Trance music, BUY THIS! you won't be disappointed!

Suncreeney, we hardly knew ye...,

I remember the minimum amount of fuss this band got when this album was first released; something of a novelty that got bandied about--that this was a techno band that actually played live.Well, so did Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, Empirion, etc. Even so, I had a soft spot in my heart for any techno-pop group with ambient aspirations. I couldn't give this album any less, although it's a bit of a mystery why they couldn't follow up all the good publicity with an even stronger album. That aside, "Pressure Me", "Broken English", and particularly "Love U More" all got reasonable airplay, and even wider distribution on dance mix compilations, and upon listening to this ten years after the fact, you realize that it was either them or The Shamen who were gonna make it. That it was neither didn't mean squat; still a solid electronic album.

My first introduction to techno music,
By
This review is from: O3 (Audio CD)
I have never thought about it until now but "03" by Sunscreem was my first introduction to the world of dance music. I didn't know it at the time nor did I know what techno music was. I was perusing through my dusty ol' collection of cassettes when I came across an old favorite...Sunscreem's "03". It has been ten years since I have owned "03". I almost forgot how much I enjoyed listening to it until now. I think the music was way ahead of its time. Techno music was strictly underground as far as I know. Had they released "03" in the past 5 years, the group probably would have stood a better chance at making a name for themselves in mainstream music, or at least in the current dance scene. "03" consists of catchy, infectious and danceable music. Lucia Holms provides lead vocals on songs like "Pressure" and my personal favorite "Love U More". Looking back, "03" was a sure indication of my future musical tastes ten years ago.

Did you read the title of this review? Don't believe it? Then buy it and listen to it...just once will be enough! From that moment on, you'll already be a Sunscreem big fan! This CD is definitely one of the 3 best cds I ever had, and I have almost one thousand (that' right!)...so it's got to be really good! And it is: going from melodic to almost-pure-techno in a continous flow of music thru the different tracks, you can be nothing but pleased by listening to it...over and over again...always! I really love this CD! This is definitely a must-have for everyone! "Love U More" is one of the best songs ever produced by mankind! I know that's a bold statement...just listen and agree with me!

I just happened to be watching a tape my brother recorded of some stuff off MTV when a Sunscreem video came up for the song "Pressure". I was mesmerized and watched it like 400 times. I fell in love instantly. Her voice, the sound of their music, it puts me in a trance. I bought their debut album "O3" (1993) at once. I now have all of their stuff I can find including the rare "Pressure US" maxi. Check them out, it will blow you away!

Highly addictive, becoming more familiar than your own pulse,

I'm not certain how I managed to become so attached to a CD that none of my friends have ever heard of before. I started listening to it, and then I realized how often I looked forward to playing it in the background as I drove, worked, and read. The beat of the music is now so familiar to me, that I know that my pulse latches onto it as I drive. It is not exactly the most thought-provoking CD, nor the most sensual. It is not the best dance CD. But it does combine those elements, with a dark passion and grace, which has kept me captivated for four years. It is still the most listened to CD in my collection. I highly recommend giving it a try, listening to the whole thing, and seeing if you want to listen to it again. And again.

Amazing energy!,
By A Customer
This review is from: O3 (Audio CD)
I've liked Sunscreem for five years, and have had the cd almost that long. I love singing along and dancing around the house. "Love U More", "Perfect Motion" and "Chasing Dreams" are my personal favorites. They always cheer me up when I'm in a bad mood, or when I'm depressed. I never tire of the melody, the lyrics, the energy or the style. Sunscreem is a top pick of techno lovers around the workd and I think it's a shame that they are so unknown. I hope they continue to make music, I know I'll always buy it! If you like Sunscreem why don't you check out "Everything is Wrong" by Moby? It's a great CD with some of the high energy stuff and a few slow songs. They're both great and I can listen to them for months straight, never changing the cd in my player!
