Handsome Bag - but large,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This bag is larger than I'd expected. It's about the size (and shape) of a case for a full-size pair of binoculars. Also, what you don't see in the picture - under the flap - are 3 outside compartments. One has a snap, one appears to be intended to put a cell phone into (clipping the cell's clip on the outside), and the other is a horizontal zipper pocket that is the width of the other two, and below them.
Inside, there is a small partitioned area that fits the Kindle perfectly - when it is not in its cover. I was disappointed in this because I am used to using the Kindle with the cover. The other side of the partition is the roomy main compartment. There is also a small pocket that runs down one side (inside) that appears to be intended for holding pens. The bag does appear to be more versatile than its picture suggests, but if I put my Kindle in the pocket that is evidently meant for it, what do I do with the cover? If you use your Kindle without a cover, and you want something to tote it safely in, along with the charger and USB cable, then this gives you plenty of room for that, as well as a cell and other items. UPDATE: Another customer mentioned he had managed to get the Kindle with the cover into the compartment in the bag, so I tried again, and yes, with a little wiggling, it goes in. The material has some stretch to it. It didn't occur to me that it would have such a snug fit - but it's fine, really.

Kindle Reader Messenger Bag,
I read the reviews prior to purchase and I was a little concerned about fitting my Kindle into the designated storage slot while still in its cover. Initially, it did look like I would have to remove the cover. Upon examining the bag and using my hand to expand the slot, I found that my Kindle did fit perfectly while still in its cover. I prefer to have the cover on so, needless to say, I was very happy with the fit. This leaves plenty of room in front of the Kindle for carrying additional personal items you like to keep handy.
I also had some concerns about the snaps, based on reviews. I found that by placing a finger under the bottom loop and pressing firmly with the thumb, the snaps will fasten with a nice crisp click. I have not had any problems with the front flap popping open. The shoulder strap is wide and made of nice heavy material that is going to last a long time. This is one husky strap and it caught my attention immediately. It is very long but it can be adjusted to fit a person's preference for over the shoulder or across the body use. Overall, this is a very nice bag for people on the go who like to have their Kindle handy. It is well made for a custom fit and has plenty of room for additional accessories and personal items.

Pros: Ample amount of storage, several pockets, adjustable shoulder strap.
Cons: Most of the bag is made from fabric, the leather is not high quality, the zipper is flimsy and it is greatly over priced. If the bag cost $25, I would have given it four stars.

I was uncertain whether I would have to choose between a leather cover and the messenger bag. No choice necessary.
The Kindle -- WITH the leather cover -- fits in the Kindle compartment IF you tuck the leather closure tab for the leather cover under the Kindle rather than into the sheath on the outside of the cover. The bag holds, handily, the Kindle (WITH leather cover), Treo (in slotted pocket), iPod Video (with slight room to spare) in snapping pocket, Kindle charger crammed into bottom zip pocket, small reading light (Rayovac, which hangs around your neck) AND -- believe it or not -- my Bose headphones (the big size) together in main compartment. There is also a small amount of room (in the pocket with the iPod)for license, credit cards, and/or money. And I can drop my whole electronic shebang in one fell swoop into a larger Tote for air travel or ...?

I can't say enough good things about this bag. It's flat-out beautiful. I carry it around the streets of Manhattan; its classiness fits right in. Only the visible parts of the bag are leather: the large front flap and the front pockets. It's very stout and attractive leather. The bottom, sides, and back of the bag and the strap are military-grade canvas, very thick and durable; this choice makes all the sense in the world: rather dirtying up and scuffing nice leather the canvass allows for the bag to be placed anywhere without any regard for cleanliness. Canvass carrying straps are much more comfortable than leather straps (I know from hard-won experience). I have MS and I've been looking for a small bag to fit daily essentials without being heavy; this fills the bill and exceeds my expectations. I easily fit in it: my kindle in its slip cover (would accommodate a larger case), my iPhone, wallet, large eyeglass case, Koss headphones in case, charging cables for Kindle and iPhone, and I have room to spare. And it's light enough for a disabled man to carry around with ease. Highly recommended.

Almost large enough for a "catch-all" bag,
By But I am accepting that carrying only one bag all day is worth the discarding of just a few conveniences. I love the lower zipper pouch for keys, and the other two outer pouches for my phone and PalmPilot. The main pouch holds writing implements, glasses, lipstick, wallet, &c. (I did have to side-grade to a narrower but taller wallet), and of course the Kindle in the inner pouch! Finally, I have to admit that getting my Kindle a special carrying case makes my heart all tingly. Ah consumerism ... And, as one negative reviewer noted, only the outer flaps are leather, but the rest is sturdy canvas that I *trust*.

The Bad:
I was so excited to receive this case, but I was very disappointed and returned it immediately. When I opened the top flap, the pockets were crooked! I wish Amazon would let me attach a picture to show how awful it looked. On closer examination, it appeared that the problem wasn't the way the pockets were sewn, but rather the stretchy material that forms the sides (but not the front) of each pocket -- it's like extra-thick elastic, and it doesn't lie flat, so it makes the flat faux-leather front of the pocket lie at an angle. Truthfully, though, it LOOKED like the pockets had been glued on by someone's five-year-old child. The snaps are awkward and difficult to close unless you don't mind squishing the whole bag at the bottom (and risk squeezing/breaking anything inside it, I'd think). From a distance (and in the small pictures) this bag looks fine, even nice. Up close, though, the surface looks kindof cheap and shiny, and because of the crooked-looking pockets, I'd be embarrassed to open it in public. The Good: However, the inside pocket where your Kindle goes is perfectly sized, actually quite soft, and seems like it would keep the Kindle secure. The shoulder strap is a perfect length for wearing the bag across your body. And, as others have mentioned, it's surprisingly roomy -- more than enough room for lip gloss, keys, sunglasses, and wallet. Really, if I could have this same design made of better materials, I'd give it five stars. |
