Simple but effective design,

This review is from: OCTOVO Metal Stand (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle)
In one sense, I can't argue with the reviewer who said that the Kindle Reader Stand from OCTOVO is overpriced. I think $14.95, or even $9.95 would be a far more reasonable price point for what the product actually does. After all, one could prop a Kindle up against a pillow, a box, a stack of books, or just about anything that you have handy, or for most, just hold it in your hands.
Having said that, the device is a lot more than "just two pieces of metal stuck together." First, the design is very much tailored to the needs of the Kindle, with a cutout in the back piece to make access to the power buttons easy, and the slot running along the baseplate to make it easy to use the stand while the Kindle is on charge. The metal is solid, with a rubberized painted surface so you don't have to worry about the lightweight Kindle sliding around, and the stand is just heavy enough to feel stable wherever you place it on a table, desk, etc. It won't easily slide around on you while you press buttons on the Kindle. The back piece slides perfectly into a slot on the base, and I found that in my case, I needed the stand to tilt forward more, so I inserted the back piece backwards, which leans the Kindle forward more. When I do this, the strip along the bottom of the back piece blocks most of the slot for the power cord, but I worked around that problem by not inserting the back piece all the way, leaving it offset some to the right while positioning the Kindle so that it hangs off to the left. A bit kludgey, but it works well overall. I think this product is one of those things where you must decide how useful the product will be to you. If you can make do without it, and purchasing it is merely a luxury or bonus for you, you might do well to save your money for an extra Kindle book or two instead. But as a disabled man, the stand has already proved to be an important aid in my use of the Kindle, and I've only had it one day. Besides, this product, while simple in design, is a lot more functional and well thought out than something whipped up in middle school shop class. For the convenience it provides me, it's worth every penny. If this cost less, I would give it five stars and highly recommend every Kindle owner buy it. As is, I suggest you determine just how useful the product will be to you, and then make the choice whether it's worth the current $24.95 price tag for your personal needs. If you do need a stand for your Kindle, however, I don't think you'll find one better than this. - Gregory Bernard Banks, author, reader, reviewer

I have 2 reading stands that I used before I bought the Kindle. One was a small white metal stand for paperbacks and very small books. That cost $22 more than ten years ago. It has two little bars that hold the front of the book down. The bars block some of the words, and I have to move the book to see them.
This stand is much nicer than I expected. It doesn't have anything in front of the Kindle that blocks part of the screen. I just got my Kindle, so I had to charge it immediately when I read my first book. The cord went right through the special opening. The stand holds the book a little higher than the table, so it's at a comfortable height for reading.

I agree with the other reviewers that this item is WAY OVERPRICED. However, having the cut-out for the charging cord is very convenient.
The two metal pieces, once put together, are VERY HARD to disassemble without seriously scratching the rubberized surfaces, making portability or travel a bit difficult. So far, I am using mine at the kitchen table as I read--mainly to prevent any accidental spills from reaching the Kindle--which was my only reason for getting this device. If I could find another LESS EXPENSIVE alternative, I would return the stand immediately. Finding none, this fulfills its' function nicely. I do think another, regular book holder or stand might also work, but haven't found any that would adequately accommodate the power cord when attached to the Kindle. The price is the biggest drawback on this device. Not worth the price, and I may yet return because of that reason... As a result, I am still hunting for a viable alternative. If I find one within the Amazon 30-day return policy limit, back it goes!!

First off, I don't think that any middle school shop class has the capability to make aluminum extrusions. This is a very well made, two-piece aluminum extrusion. It has a nice sticky coating that grips my leather Kindle "wallet" quite nicely. It also gives me the capability to read lying down, or reclining in a Lazy Boy chair, with the Kindle power adapter plugged in without the adapter poking me in the stomach. It is also very useful for reading while eating without having to worry about spilling liquids onto it or getting food on it. Yes, it is a bit pricey, but it was worth it to me.

I was greatly pleased to find that this stand seems to have been upgraded. It has a leather padded backrest and fits together smoothly with the base. It is easy to take the two pieces apart for travel and reassemble for use. The stand has a solid quality feel.
I use my Kindle2 in the Amazon leather cover and often use the bright clip-on light as well. With this stand, the trio is a nice setup for hours of easy reading. When using the light, I get the greatest stability by folding the leather cover around the back of the stand and clipping the light to both front and back covers together. In this configuration, the stand remains secure even with the added weight at the top. My stand doesn't leave any marks on my counter or table as another reviewer noted. I feel I'm getting my money's worth with this product as a quality accessory for the K2. It is definitely a handy one. Although the K2 isn't heavy, add the cover and the light and after some long reading sessions, the idea of a stand became ever more appealing. I'd tried propping my Kindle here and there, but the stand is providing a much better solution. If you use your Kindle without a cover, the lightly padded leather covering on the backrest will protect it from scratches. I am pleased with this purchase and recommend it.

A METAL STAND FOR THE AMAZON KINDLE 2 BY OCTOVO: I was looking for a stand that would hold my Kindle 2 at more than one angle. With this in mind I purchased the metal stand by Octovo. Didn't think it would work but it was worth trying. I found it to be really great!
Initially had trouble inserting the back onto the stand BUT when I realized the right way to put it on, no problem. You must have the stand with the name on it facing you. Then make sure the back you are inserting has the cut-out portion on your right. Now it slides right in, no problem. Have found that the angle they have is quite nice. Sometimes make adjustments for lighting but that's okay. It holds my Kindle 2, with the Amazon cover still on it, with no problem. When moving it from one place to another, Just pick up the stand and Kindle together, holding both the Kindle and stand. Nice. Of course, there are times when I want a lower slant. This is how to make it work. Take the stand (already put together) and reverse it. In other words, flip it. Now you have the nameplate at the top (words are upside down)and the back resting on the table. Place your book so it is laying on the back (it will also be upside down). Check-it-out!!! You have a nice lower slant. I use it primarily when lying or sitting on my bed. Note that the light you hooked on the back of the stand will still work in either direction. The price was more than I wanted to spend but I can live with it. I concur with other writers that the base does leave marks on counter tops. THOUGHT FLASH: Put clear nail polish on the flat part that touches the counter. This should keep it from leaving the black marks. AND, just as soon as my daughter comes home and gives me her clear nail polish, I'll test my theory!! Bottom line, I'm glad I purchased this stand and would recommend it to others. PS The clear nail polish works beautifully!! No more scuff marks.

Don't worry if this pricey book stand never comes back...I found a great alternative. Barnes and Nobel has a product called "Bookhug"...a metal stand for $12.95 and its a perfect fit.

This stand is exceptionally well designed and made. It is perfect for
holding the kindle in reading position with or without the kindle cover. The backrest slides tightly into a groove in the base which holds it securely. The cut-off corner of the backrest makes reaching the switches on the back of the kindle a little easier. More convenience is added by the other cut-out in the base which allows wires from the battery charger, the USB cable or earphones to plug into the kindle while it is on the stand. The special rubberized coating seems ideal for handling and for holding the kindle. The little rubber strips in grooves along the edges which contact the surface on which the stand rests are another extra value feature. I'm really pleased to have this stand.

for reading during breakfast or lunch, can't be beat,

I really like this metal stand and use it every day- I purchased it for a friend in the hospital and ended up keeping it for myself, as it greatly improved the Kindle2 experience for me. I love to read during breakfast and lunch-sometimes it's the only time I find to read all day- and this stand makes it possible! For a right handed person like myself, the buttons on the left side of Kindle2 turn out to be great for turning pages while the Kindle2 is perched on this very sturdy stand, away from the risk of spills. Plus, my Kindle now has a home- a safe and attractive place to re-charge when I dash off to work. I like this stand so much that I've taken it to Hawaii, Denver, etc.. It is indeed very secure- as other reviewers have noted- but I quickly figured out a way to take it apart easily: I use a fixed surface like a counter to brace one part, then slide the other section off, quickly and easily. I NEVER would have purchased it for myself, but I'm really glad I picked it up for a friend, and had a chance to try it. After using it for one week, it was clear that it expanded where and when I could use my Kindle2.

What a great idea. I love this stand for my Kindle2. I can put it on my lap tray and read and eat. It is very well made and sturdy. And the hole at the bottom for the recharge cord is a wonderful plus. I use my Kindle 2 a lot and thought it was great - but this makes it even better!
