Make the Shift to Vertex 460

Combining OCZ’s own controller design with the latest generation of flash, Vertex 460 keeps your computing experience ahead of the game.

Performance Should LAST

Fresh-out-of-the-box every SSD is fast. Due to the nature of NAND flash, SSDs get “dirty” over time and the fast performance you once loved is destined to degrade. Vertex 460 is not afraid to play dirty and continues to lead in performance while others drop significantly.

Reliability and durability from the inside out

With quality SSD technology built into every drive, the Vertex 460 Series is built to provide years of hard drive-humiliating performance. Ditch that spinning HDD for some storage peace of mind.

Less Lag

OCZ SSDs offer industry-leading low latency, enabling faster access to data and a more responsive computer. Optimize an old notebook or maximize a modern PC.

Proprietary Technology

It’s through cutting-edge technology that OCZ has set itself apart from the rest. Our secret sauce is in our advanced suite of flash management.

Award-Winning Innovation

With innovative storage features, OCZ promises to change your computing expectations and live up to the hype of using an SSD.

Advanced Endurance

Worried about the lifespan of flash memory? OCZ increases durability and maximizes the life expectancy of the flash in each SSD.

Beyond the Box

OCZ SSDs deliver lasting performance and reliability long after the initial ‘fresh-out-of-the-box’ experience.

Customer Reviews

:D I highly recommend this hard drive to anyone looking for a new one.

My MBP had fairly fast SSD, and I was really happy about the speed and the performance.

Bottom Line - Noticeably faster than Samsung. Tested using Samsung's Magician Utility. Updated Samsung to latest firmware today, July 31, 2014. Slightly different results compared to June 28, 2014 results when the OCZ SSD was new. Samsung SSD was newly formatted and trimmed today.

Sequential Read MB/s: OCZ 507 Samsung 542 = 7% in favor of Samsung
Sequential Write MB/s: OCZ 501 Samsung 258 = 94% in favor of OCZ

Random Read IOPS: OCZ 51,678 Samsung 42,921 = 20% in favor of OCZ
Random Write IOPS: OCZ 33,742 Samsung 37,981 = 13% in favor of Samsung

Comparison to Toshiba 500 GB hard disk below so that you can see how much faster SSDs are than standard hard drives:

Sequential Read MB/s: OCZ 507 Toshiba HD 47 = OCZ 10.8 times faster
Sequential Write MB/s: OCZ 501 Toshiba HD 66 = OCZ 7.6 times faster

Random Read IOPS: OCZ 51,678 Toshiba 515 = OCZ 100 times faster
Random Write IOPS: OCZ 33,742 Toshiba 318 = OCZ 106 times faster

Generally speaking, a SSD is 10 times faster than a conventional hard drive for sequential read/write and 100 times faster for random read/write IOPS.

I built a system in July 2013 and bought a Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB SSD which has worked quite well, except that it has never quite felt as fast as I thought it should be. I use Samsung's TRIM utility regularly. I received this OCZ 240 GB SSD a few days ago. I also bought an OCZ SSD several months ago and it is running in a second desktop computer with Windows 8 and has worked quite well. I decided to first clone the Samsung SSD to a 10,000 RPM WD VelociRaptor 250 first just so I could put it through a thorough disk defragmention so that the data would be compacted.

Migrating from a mechanical drive to a Solids State Drive (SSD) is one of the best upgrades you can ever do to your computer. The speed gain is remarkable; it is as if you just bought a brand new computer. The computer will boot many times faster and programs will load in almost a blind of an eye. SSDs are incredibly fast.

One hump to easily get over is drive size. On a desktop, simply purchase a mechanical drive for your data and you are more or less good to go. I've had a 240 GB SSD in a Win 7 computer for over two years and haven't even approached filling the drive (I do have TBs of external and internal drives for data). A laptop is a little more complex - a 240 GB SSD is about the lower limit for a laptop, you can make it work. Realistically, a 500 GB drive is a much better choice. With a 240 GB drive, you will need an external portable hard drive. 1 and 2 TB drives are inexpensive and they work well.

The next biggest hump is figuring out which drive to purchase. My first go to drive is Samsung, I've owned two of those and they all work perfectly - one in a PC desktop and the other in a MacBook Pro. The Samsung 840 EVO seems to be the standard bearer for solid state drives now. You can drive yourself crazy reading drive specs - at the end of the day, not one of them matters. The difference between an SSD and a mechanical drive is so great those miniscule benchmark differences between drives - you'll never see them. Purchase a drive from a manufacturer you trust, has a solid warranty, and provides the little bits and pieces you might want (desktop 2.5 inch adapter plate, SATA to USB cable, software, and drive spacer).

So OCZ and their Vertex 460 drive. There is good and bad in this package. The good - the drive is beautifully made and designed.

I have 2 Samsung 840 Evo drives. They are good drives but have zero customer service and if you happen to have an AMD system, good luck updating the firm ware. I decided to try an OCZ. I am glad I did. This thing is built like a brick s*** house. I swear it is a solid block of aluminum. The speed is fantastic and the ease of installation is great. I am sold on OCZ.

My brand new OCZ solid state drive totally, irrevocably failed when I needed it the most, scarcely 6 weeks after purchasing it. I'm representing Gartner at their massive, flagship Symposium event, and the drive totally died in the middle of some very light use for no apparent reason.

I've had great luck with other SSD manufacturers. I use solid-state media everywhere, and it's been a tremendous boon to my efficiency. However, I've also always stayed away from OCZ because of all the horror stories about drive failures. Recently, because of some positive recent reviews on Amazon and other sites, I decided to take a chance on them. 38 days later, and in the middle of the biggest moment yet in my career, I deeply regret this choice.

Thankfully, I anticipated this possibility, and took a complete bit-for-bit image of the original drive (the former source drive that I cloned onto the OCZ) before travelling, and also did a Time Machine backup. However, it's painful to have to use a loaner laptop when I need my highly-customized development workstation the most.

Even if you're paranoid about backups like I am, I wouldn't trust this brand. I wouldn't even accept a replacement if they offered one. This thing failed in no time flat. I'll never buy an OCZ product again, and I suggest the same to you.
