4.0 out of 5 stars CAUTION: Good Tools, Wrong Size
CAUTION, Amazon advertises this to fit the Denso 234-9009 Air and Fuel Sensor. But they do not tell you that the 3 tools in this set are all 7/8 size. But the Denso 234-9009 Air and Fuel Sensor requires a 22 mm size. The result is you will round off the old sensor when you try to remove it. And Amazon does not give you this size anywhere in the description.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pot Metal
The deep socket is OK and worked well in taking out the upper oxygen sensor in my Maxima. The small crow foot socket, however, broke when I applied torque to the 3/8" breaker bar that I was using with it. The break occured where the breaker bar attached to the socket. The metal at the break point looked like it was cast metal versus a socket being made from steel.

Re Oxygen Sensor Wrench Set #27110

This has got to be one of the best specialty tool deals I've ever seen. At $15.00, even with shipping added, you can't lose. Consider: Even if you drive your vehicle "until the wheels fall off," you will probably not change the O2 sensor more than once or twice. The first time you do--the first time you venture to try doing it yourself--you are almost sure to find: that a mere 22mm open-end wrench just can't be fit in over the sensor's wrench flats (say, if your sensor intalls in the crossover); and that a box wrench will not fit over the connector even if it is the right size; or that when you go looking for a 22mm split-type box wrench that will slip over the wires, finding that wrench in the 22mm size is difficult to impossible. Then, you are faced with finding the specific tool that will work with your particular vehicle; and paying $35 or more (even $100 or more) for that single application tool. But what if you change vehicles?...then there's a good chance your pricey tool will no longer be suited. With the #27110 set, however, you are almost certain to have universality that will adapt to just about any application; those few owners who might not would, more likely than not, be the ones who would not do the work themselves anyway. Now what are the features that make this a superlative value? Consider adaptability. Start with the one thing that could be seen as a drawback: that you will have to provide your own solid, sliding, or ratchet-type socket wrench handle--but this drawback is really an advantage!! That's right-- Using your own wrench handle, extensions, wobble extensions, ujoints, etc.,...your ability to fit the tool despite any restriction is limited only by the standard socket wrench accessories you have on hand, or can readily purchase.

How about drive size and shape? You're covered there, too: the fittings will accept both 3/8" and 1/2" socket drives; and the 1/2"-drive socket will accept the wrench handle's drive in any one of eight orientations--in case your 1/2" wrench handle is a fixed rather than ratchet-ing type.

The kit comes with one, chrome plated, 3/8"-drive deep socket which is slotted on the side to slip over the sensor wires--looks much like a spark plug wrench. If that doesn't suit (say, if your sensor is too long to prevent pinching of the sensor wires sticking out through the slot) you still have a choice between two "crow's foot" type sockets: the 3/8"-drive and/or the 1/2"-drive. On each of these, the slot (for the sensor wire harness) extends the entire length of the socket; so the socket can be slipped over the wire--and the wire cannot be pinched--no matter what. Purchased individually (if you could find them), any one of the set's sockets, even at wholesale, would likely cost as much as or more than other, single purpose tools (even at retail)...so even if you only use one socket from the kit, you're still ahead. Figure a minimum of $10 to $15 (wholesale) for each of the sockets; then add, say, $8 for the case...and you have a tool kit that could be expected to retail for at least $40, probably much more. Now consider what three separate, single purpose wrenches would cost at $35-$75 each. So whether it's brand new or used, this is a tool deal you're not likely to beat. In effect, you are getting the large-volume purchasing power (and control of price) normally only available to the big outlets--the Walmarts, Home Depots, Auto Zones and such--but you only have to purchase one item. It's also a deal in which buying your own will not cost you much more, if any, than receiving a loaner for "free"--especially when you figure in the cost of picking up and returning a loaner.

Conclusion: Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised, March 2, 2009

I had to replace an Oxygen sensor on the rear of my engine. It was very difficult to reach, but with this tool, it made the job a little less painful. For this price, you can't beat it. One piece at the local autostore will cost about ten bucks. Same set at autozone will cost you twentyfive. Sure, you can "borrow" an O2 socket from autozone or something with a deposit of course, but with this you won't have to worry about the hassle of driving back and forth. And now I have a set so I can remove any other malfunctioning O2 sensors in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars The proper tool for the job, November 22, 2008
This review is from: OEM 27110 Oxygen Sensor Socket (Tools & Home Improvement)
This tool set is an inexpensive but good tool for removing and replacing the O2 sensors in your car. While these tools can be "borrowed" at many auto parts stores, this price makes ownership worthwhile if you do a lot of work on your own cars.

My 1997 Honda Civic has 2 oxygen sensors. I changed the first one without a oxygen sensor socket. I had to remove the catalytic converter heat shield to get a wrench around the sensor. What a pain. It took me about an hour to change that one sensor.

I was so frustrated with that experience that I set out on a mission to buy an O2 sensor socket. I purchased the OEM 27110 socket set from Amazon.com for $22. This was a great deal. All the local automotive stores were asking $20 for just one socket. This has 3 with a case.

Sure enough, two months after I changed the first sensor, the second one goes out. What a life saver this set was! The set has 3 sockets for 7/8" sensors: two that are offset like a crowfoots wrench (3/8" and 1/2" drive) and one deep socket (3/8" drive) that has it's side cut out for the O2 sensor wire. This should cover most applications.

I used the 3/8" socket that is offset to remove O2 sensor 1 on the car. It worked fantastic. The socket reached right through the hole of the catalytic converter heat shield and grabbed onto the sensor. I swapped out the sensor in less than 10 minutes.

Definitely a worthwhile purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, July 13, 2009
This review is from: OEM 27110 Oxygen Sensor Socket (Tools & Home Improvement)
Ordered the Oxygen Sensor Socket set from Amazon with the Denso oxygen sensors for my Toyota Tundra. I used the crows foot sockets and I was amazed an how easy it came out. I checked the socket size on the new part and it fit perfectly. When I was removing the old O2 sensor, it felt like the socket was too big. It turns out it was already loose. I could not believe how easy this tool made the job. There is no way to fit a normal wrench into the very limited work space. Nothing like having the right tool for the job.

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk, don't bother., January 11, 2009
This review is from: OEM 27110 Oxygen Sensor Socket (Tools & Home Improvement)
This product comes with a warning to wear saftey goggles and they mean it! Only seconds after affixing this tool to my 02 sensor, it shattered to pieces. It took only one tug to break this 02 sensor socket. Disappointing, and I'll have to find something else in order to complete my 02 sensor replacement.

Based on this experience, I'll have to say that if you're the type that demands quality tools, as I am, look elsewhere.

***update: I purchased a bluepoint unit. It works very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good value, worth the money, March 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: OEM 27110 Oxygen Sensor Socket (Tools & Home Improvement)
Considering that a dealer would have charged me $150 per sensor (x 4), and probably $300 in labor, I decided to change all four myself on my 2001 Maxima. I purchased all four 02 sensors from Amazon for about $220 (Walkers), and spent maybe three hours today replacing three of them (ran out of time for #4). By far the easiest part of the procedure was using these sockets to loosen the sensors. The Max is pretty tight under the hood and underneath, but the crow's foot socket made it pretty easy. The hardest part was properly securing the wires using the provided plastic ties. I did the best I could, but a couple of the holes where the wire ties were supposed to mount were near impossible to reach without disassembling lots of stuff (or using a lift).

So, if you want to save a lot of money by doing it yourself, this is a small but worthwhile investment which easily pays for itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars a good set of sockets to have in your toolbox, March 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: OEM 27110 Oxygen Sensor Socket (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a nice set of three O2 sockets: two offsets and one `regular'. It comes in a small, handy plastic box you can easily fit in your toolbox. I'm not sure how other reviewers managed to break their sockets as they seem well made. I was able to replace a sensor on my wife's impala in no time without any problem. It is true that they don't fit really tight on the sensor, as they're made to apply to most models, but it should be good enough nonetheless to get the job done. For $20 dollars this is a good set of sockets for the DIY-er.
