I only used one other strut spring compressor, before I used the OEM model. It was a single screw, twin armed unit from a store that specializes in inexpensive Chinese import tools. This unit jammed, and would not release tension on the compressed spring after the strut unit was replaced. After several hours attempting to free the jammed tool, I got a pair of these OEM strut spring compressors. The OEM spring compressors enabled me to compress the spring further, and get the other compressor off the spring. I used the OEM spring compressors to change 4 strut units without any complications. In fact, the OEM spring compressors made the job quite easy. The OEM safety pin detent holds the safety pin in place, and you don't have to worry about the safety pin moving while you are compressing or decompressing the spring. Keep an eye on them, just for your own safety, though. This was not the case with the other tool, by the way. Those safety pins would not stay in place. I like the OEM tool's wide contact area on the spring. It seems this would decrease the tendency for the spring compressor to move or slip as the spring is compressed. These spring compressors stayed in place while I was compressing the spring, and while I released tension on the spring.I highly recommend these OEM strut spring compressors; they work great, and the manufacturing quality seems very high.

For the low purchase cost of this product I had worries about how well they would be built and how they would last. When I opened the carton to examine I was surprised at how robust they were made and when we used them I had confidence in their holding/gripping ability. I felt safe in the use of them and with the other manufacuturers pair that I threw away I never really felt as safe. Do I recommend them for the home mechanic, you bet I do and I will buy another pair if and when they ever wear out.

I used this to change the shocks on my wrx which the shop told me would be 1100 dollars and I did it for a grand total of 560. They are made of high quality materials and got the job done with ease.

They work pretty much as advertised. I used them on a full 4 strut install, and these compressors never seized or jammed, nor were they ever too difficult to use with hand tools. I wouldn't say they were a joy to work with (only because compressing springs is rarely a joyful business) but they certainly didn't add to the frustration of the install.

Honestly, if you're considering cheaping out and going with a less expensive brand, don't; just get these. This is not an area you want to cheap out on - dealing with jammed compressors is not fun.

Worked as advertized. Were a little difficult to get in the springs I was working on (Jeep Liberty), but I should have did more research on my part. Very well made product. They will last a lifetime.

I changed all 4 struts on my Lexus 2006 GS300 after 125,000 miles (I know...long overdue). I did my research and after reading comment from other customers I decided to purchase these compressors...They were not the cheapest, but other reviews had commented that cheaper compressors would bind up. These compressors worked flawlessly. All I needed to do was use Permatex 80078 Anti-Seize Lubricant on these compressors before each use and had NO problems using them. I would recommend using an impact gun to make the job VERY easy. The locks on these compressors definitely add a level of security, especially for my first time changing struts.

Highly recommend...especially liked the comment from one of the customers about dropping the compressed spring with this compressor on it and it did not budge....

Used these on my old Hyundai Elantra, first time I've done a strut change. They worked great and seemed sturdy. They didn't slip or walk around the spring.
