The Ultimately Perfect Puzzle Book,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: O'Ekaki Heaven (Paperback)
What more can I say. If you love "hanji" or "pixel puzzles" or whatever you call them, this is the perfect puzzle book! With varying difficulties, I still managed, finally, to complete every puzzle, although I had to take two or three tries at a few of them. Good quality paper makes it possible to erase and start over. The binding of the book makes it possible to take along in your purse or pocket, bending back the spine when you're sitting in the doctor's office or on an airplane. Wonderful!!!! Nishio, you are my hero!

Nishio is my favorite author for these kinds of picture puzzles. They are well crafted, from easy to challenging, and not too big. For my preferences, I don't like counting over 35 squares... i prefer 25. On many you get to a point where you don't think there is any more moves & you find the one clue and it leads to many more moves. Very satisfying and the puzzles don't take too long to do.

These have evolved to be the most fun puzzle that I like to do. I think this author's puzzles are by far the most elegant in the genre. Compared to other Nonogram/Griddler/o'ekaki/sudoku by numbers/etc puzzles, these pictures are more intricate with detail when finished, so they're more satisfying than doing say, a heart, a key, or a smiley face, where everything is so symmetrical you're solving it based on the simplicity than following the clues.
Hopefully he'll be around for a long time producing these books!

I love these puzzles but the images in this particular book are not very good or well-defined. They are a bit harder than some to start as well. But if you have time to spare this is an ok paintdoku book.

After getting addicted to pixel puzzles, I ordered O'Ekaki Heaven to begin with and really enjoyed it. I typically tear out the pages because it is just easier that way- but as other reviewers have said, it would be better if it was spiral bound. My only 'complaint'- which really isn't a complaint, but more a preference, is that I would prefer more large puzzles to complete. At first, I thought $10 was pretty high for a puzzle book, but after ordering one I realized this was a great price because these books provide hundreds (that is not an exaggeration) of hours of enjoyment! I have since bought another book by the same author.

Great product and clever titles. I thoroughly enjoy his books, as I own them all, and even publish this type of puzzle book myself.

The best designed puzzles of any series that I have tried,

I've tried many different authors of nonogram/hanjie books. Many just focus on generating photos and provide puzzles where the black:white balance makes them either easily solvable or practically impossible to solve. These puzzles are very well designed and offer an increasing grade of difficulty without any of these frustrations.
I'll frequently work on these with my girlfriend, with one of us taking the black pencil and one taking the white. Since we are responding to each others' action rather than stepping on each others' toes, this is one of the few types of puzzles where this cooperative approach works so well. |
