5.0 out of 5 stars Hardcore Lives On!
OFF!'s first "proper" full length album is a non-stop angry rampage that will leave you wanting more. Clocking in at around 17mins this is Hardcore punk in its truest and purest form. The quintessential punk rock legend Keith Morris says, or shouts, what he wants and gets the hell out. The sound throughout the album is reminiscent of classic pre-Rollins era Black Flag...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, at least Keith didn't sell out and ended ...
This in the spirit of circle jerks but the vehemence is not there. I feel that the riffs are too simple and do not allow each song to have its own personality. The only time I noticed were by the bridge or chorus. Not bad, at least Keith didn't sell out and ended up with a Good Charlotte clone.

The quintessential punk rock legend Keith Morris says, or shouts, what he wants and gets the hell out. The sound throughout the album is reminiscent of classic pre-Rollins era Black Flag with the songs having catchy violent lyrics. The only complaint I have with this album is it doesn't feel as fresh as their First Four EPs, but need not worry because it still packs a punch. Fans of hardcore or punk will own this and love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Turn on and get Off!, May 12, 2013

While the songs are not as catchy as Keith Morris' vocals in Black Flag, he is absolutely ferociously sarcastic and snotty with his vocal attack here. Music-wise this sounds a whole lot like the first Black Flag records. These songs sound shorter than OFF's first record and there are less lyrics per song but that doesn't matter as Morris just picks a word or two from THE verse and uses it as the chorus...and it works brilliantly! I don't think that any band has released a better punk record in years.

The music is fine, though not as good as their earlier EPs.... However, these guys are putting out 16-17 minute CDs at full-price ($10-13). Value for the money is very low.

5.0 out of 5 stars Punk Rock MF, March 23, 2014

Great CD, great band. These guys know how to deliver the punk rock goods old school style. And with Keith Morris and Jeff McDonald in their ranks, they should know how! Buy this, buy "The First Four Ep's" CD, and buy their new album when it comes out next month.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new, but it doesn't need to be, May 24, 2012
This review is from: OFF! (Audio CD)
Within 16 tracks in about just as many minutes, the hardcore punk supergroup OFF! spits out enough angst, serrated guitar blasts and break neck drumming to last you a lifetime. But you'll want more.

OFF! was put together by former Black Flag and Circle Jerks front man Keith Morris. Anyone who listened to harcore punk in the eighties should know Morris as one of the true originators of west coast punk rock. A Hermosa Beach, California native, Morris put Black Flag together with guitarist Greg Ginn and the two proceeded to create the true California punk sound. Drugs and butting heads got Morris a ticket out and Hank Rollins in. But Morris jumped back and formed one of the most respected and revered hardcore punk bands of the eighties: Circle Jerks. Keith Morris made records with Circle Jerks throughout the eighties and nineties till they went on hiatus. In 2010, Morris formed OFF! with guys from bands like Burning Brides, Rocket From the Crypt and Red Kross. After putting out 4 EPs filled with youthful vitriol and a mix of hardcore punk and heavy metal thunder, OFF! have released their debut long player. If you consider a 16 minute album a long player. Hey, it's punk. So bugger off!

`Wiped Out' comes in like a hammer through a windshield to start things up. This is what hardcore is supposed to sound like. If you grew up thinking Green Day and Rancid were punk rock, you are sorely mistaken. Somewhere between Never Mind The Bollocks and the Nervous Breakdown EP, `Wiped Out' clocks in at whiplash speed of 1:13. OFF! gets in and gets out. No need to stay with a song anymore than you have to. `I Got New For You' pogos into your ears and leaves you numb in a whopping 0:41. You can almost see Morris eating the microphone as he screams lines like "You think you're the king of the scene/that you created/I got news for you/and you expect us/to worship at your feet/I got news for you". Morris delivers lines like he's reading his own Declaration of Independence. There's no questioning his intention. `King Kong Brigade' comes in at an epic 1:36 and definitely pulls from the classic Black Flag `punk meets metal' sound that they were famous for. These guys were listening to 70s metal. Scorpions, Ted Nugent and Black Sabbath. They took the mainstream and turned it into the underground. OFF! keeps that southern California hardcore tradition alive and well. And they do it better than pups 30 years younger. Morris and company are well into their 50s now. Some might even be AARP members. But you'd never know that by what's coming out of the speakers.

If you grew up in the 80s listening to Black Flag, Circle Jerks and Dead Kennedys, then do yourself a favor and pick up OFF!. If you worshipped at the alter of Minor Threat, Suicidal Tendencies and the Sex Pistols, then pick up OFF!. If you've seen The Decline of Western Civilization more than ten times, then get your hands on OFF!. If you want to be pummeled continuously for 16 minutes straight....well, you know what to do.
