Well engineered and made but DOESN"T STAND,

This review is from: OGIO Grom Stand Bag (Sports)
This is a new bag for me so I don't have much experience with it, but I am blown away with all the storage areas, little storage tricks, and how well made and sturdy everything seems to be. the pockets all have tiny lables in them to tell you what they are for !! Wow. I really like the handle on the top, I always carried my old bag that way, even without the handle.
Figured I should write something to counter the moron who rated the bag 1 star because of a problem with a store. Sheesh. UPDATE - OK, Now I have actually used it. What is the one thing a stand bag should do? STAND!!! And it doesn't. The foot is too small. I have used a stand bag for 15 years, and when I put this one down the same way, the legs often don't kick out enough unless I actively push down on the bag. Especially on uneven or soft ground, though it also happened on a gravel cart path and on the fringe of the green. I was really excited about this bag but I am returning it. Changed from 5 stars to 2.

Best Large Carry Bag Ever,

I have been using this bag for about two years, and there is nothing about it that I would change. It works great on an electric cart, especially with the strap that secures the back edge of the bag to the bag mount on the cart. It also works very well to carry your clubs if you are walking, but it is a little on the heavy side. If you are a dedicated walker, you might want to look at some of the lighter bags from Ogio, such as the Vaporlite or the new Nova.
The club organization of the Woode top is really sweet, and I just love the zipperless ball pocket. When you lose as many balls as I do, it's nice to just be able to reach in and reload, rather than messing with zippers! It also has an insulated beverage sleeve that nolds a water bottle, medium size Gatorade, etc. All in all, a great bag.

I have purchased two of these bags in less than 3 years. Both times the grommet that holds the strap to the bag has torn out. Lucky for me this happened just over the one year warranty period for the bag. You would think that a $200 carry bag would last more than a year and a half. Ogio would not replace the bag due the the expired warranty. Too bad, it could have been a good bag. Don't purchase the Grom. Ironic, the grommet is its defect.

No individual slots for clubs,

I bought one of these bags last year & love it. It is especially good for a cart (walking or riding), too heavy to enjoy carrying, but nice to carry to the practice range. My bag has individual compartments for each club - all 14 of them & I love that feature because my clubs don't get jammed. I would not buy the one pictured because it does not have this feature.

After one season golfing with this bag I love it. At first it took a little getting used to the new pocket scheme from my old bag and such, but not a big deal. Then as I used it more I liked it more, the external tee slots, ball holder, velcro patch for gloves slot for extra pencils, water bottle slot, even labels for slots that I wouldn't have noticed, etc. were great.
I primarily golf in a cart so the stand up factor is not an issue for me, having all the pockets access via one side is great. This is where my one complaint comes. The pocket for "valuables" is very nice, with a lining to protect things like jewelry, watches, cell phones, leather wallets, etc. However its access is also exactly where the strap for the cart goes across its zipper. Therefore is you want quick access to it to pay the beverage cart, eh, not so easy. Not a huge deal and I don't know how I would design it differently to make it better. And if I was in the marketing department for OGIO I'd call it a "security feature". Personally I don't really get excited about the zipperless ball pouch. I don't mind it, don't hate it or love it, it is just a take it or leave it point for my use. One other minor complaint is the rain cover. On other bags I've had they were attached and slipped over then buttoned on one side (with a zipper access). On this one it is completely separate and has to be buttoned on all sides (with a zipper access). This isn't a huge deal, but it would make for a nice feature if it could simply be slipped over without having to button it up it would be better. This is really a minor point though. |
