Superior Portable iPod Speaker Solution, June 24, 2010
This review is from: O'KESTRA Portable Surround Sound Speaker 360 Degree Playback for iPod and MP3 charges while in use (Electronics)
My expectations for this device were not very high, as I have never before heard a sub-$100 portable iPod speaker system that I would actually want to listen to (including the Altec Lansing, Cyber Acoustics, X-Mini, iLuv, iHome, Livespeakr, etc.). But my son need a new battery-powered portable speaker system for a 2-month trek because his iLuv quit functioning, and I chose this one. Great decision. The O'KESTRA has it all: cool design, high quality of construction, outstanding convenience, true portability, and -- most surprisingly -- superior sound. It can function as a "dock" or it can plug into the headphone jack. It can run on batteries or AC power. It is compact, yet expands via an ingenious pop-up mechanism to reveal a speaker setup consisting of 4 drivers and 2 small bass-reflex ports mounted to disperse the sound in a 360-degree pattern around its cylindrical exterior.
I was amazed by how good the sound is. Fluid midrange, decent high end, and surprisingly effective bass reproduction. As with any compact speaker system, there is a mid-bass "hump" to create the sonic illusion of frequency extension, but it is presented in a much more relaxed and low-distortion fashion than is typical for the breed. It's also quite efficient, capable of getting loud enough to fill a medium-sized room without clipping. There's a lot of solid engineering built into this device for the price. It is more easily portable than competing models at this price point. In summary, the O'KESTRA delivers superior sound quality on par with larger, more expensive units in a sleek, convenient package that takes up only slightly more space than the cheaper ultra-portable speakers.
By the way, it's $11 cheaper on Walmart's website, but I ordered it from Amazon because we needed it right away as a last-minute replacement for the defunct iLuv.

Nice external laptop speaker/Ipod speaker, May 26, 2010
This review is from: O'KESTRA Portable Surround Sound Speaker 360 Degree Playback for iPod and MP3 charges while in use (Electronics)
Unfortunately, I knocked this off my desk while my Ipod was docked on the top. I broke off the connector to dock the IPod. I still use this speaker though by connecting it via old fashioned wire to my laptop or my Ipod. Of course I lose the benefits of having this hard docked. No charging, etc...
Still, even though I broke this very soon after purchase, it still is working out well for me. The sound quality is nothing short of amazing and the round design not only helps the sound quality, it look pretty cool on my desk. I highly recommend this product. Some day when I get more money, I'll purchase a new one for the docking capabilities.

Awesome sound, light weight, May 16, 2010
This review is from: O'KESTRA Portable Surround Sound Speaker 360 Degree Playback for iPod and MP3 charges while in use (Electronics)
This has great sound, can be also hooked up to your computer for computer speakers or plugged into a wall. Super simple to use and again GREAT sound. I'm a traveling yoga instructor so I need something that works well and doesn't weigh much. I would have given it 5 stars except that it has this neat button to slide the speakers open and closed, and if you don't actively turn it off when you use the batteries, it will stay on even when you "close" the speakers. Possible battery drain, but otherwise I couldn't be happier.
