Flash forward a few weeks, and the bottle began to leak. At first, I believed that I had just failed to dry the threads on the inside of the cap and the mouth of the bottle properly. This was a big possibility since I consume a lot of water would refill the bottle around three or four times a day. A few drops would leak out, but because the filter worked exceptionally well, (filtered out the heavily chlorinated taste of the water in Long Beach) I decided I would try and live with it. After I switched to the new filter following a month or two, I was still experiencing leakage, even when I managed to dry the threads. I also thought that perhaps I wasn't tightening the bottle enough to get a good seal, so I tightened both the filter and the cap a little more. Still leaking, and at this point profusely, I inspected the filter, cap, and bottle closely. I realized that the gasket that provided a seal with the bottle was not properly seated in the cap, and furthermore, was beginning to fall apart. I attempted to rearrange the gasket to no avail.
Needless to say, I was disappointed.Read more ›
The Oko is quite heavy (top heavy, in fact, because the bottle itself is thin plastic but the filter is heavy) and not to my taste looks-wise. It improves the flavor of the water nicely, but it requires squeezing or sucking fairly hard to get the water - more work than I want to do when sipping all day. Maybe the heavy-duty filter is better for when the water contains harmful bacteria, but for desk drinking it's not the one.
The Hydros bottle is nicer looking, although the product I received was different from the product pictured on the website and in the video. You don't screw the top on after filling the way the video makes it look - you have to palm it on while preventing the rest of the top apparatus from turning, which is difficult and fussy. The side-fill doesn't work great - it needs to be on a particular angle to flow quickly enough to not have to stop and start. The flow while filling has to be quite slow even when filling from the top. The taste of the water was least improved of all three. The lid doesn't seal very well - you could not throw the bottle in a bag and be confident it won't leak. I like the social welfare mission of the company but the bottle's just okay.
The Nubo is a bit less attractive than the Hydros but more attractive than the Oko. It has the quickest fill and the most improved taste. Both caps screw on securely and haven't leaked yet. It's easy to fill and easy to drink from. Also the least expensive of the three.
I think the Oko might be the best for sport (it doesn't require unscrewing the bottle to drink from) or when the safety of the water is more of an issue.

This bottle looks really cool and it is a perfect size for me. I also like that it is dishwasher safe. I find the water comes out too slowly though. Read morePublished on November 6, 2013 by Charlie
The filter part works, the rest of the bottle needs help. I love the concept. Disappointingly, the carabiner ring barely made the trip from the store to my house. Read morePublished on November 5, 2013 by M Foley
