4.0 out of 5 stars Not the best of the series, but the one I'd recommend first
Volumes 1/2 were more adventurous, and, conversely, are more what everyday fans of lounge/ambient music are looking for. This volume, however, is a great place to start for the beginning lounger or curious on-looker. It is the only one of the series I would recommend to anyone who doesn't listen to the music often and intended on only buying one.

It starts off a bit...

3.0 out of 5 stars too laid back even for me
Since I had the first 2 volumes of this series (the first is 3 stars, the second is 4) I picked this one up as well, without trying any audio samples. Honestly, I'm pretty disappointed. This is congenial and laid back a disc, with absolutely nothing standing out. The first track has a bit of spice to it, as well as track 7, but besides that it's just placid beats and...

It starts off a bit light, but starts to pick up around track 3 and once you get to track 5, you won't have to hit your forward button again until it's over.

All in all, a solid purchase, even for non-fans who are also into jazz (smooth/contemporary or acid), house and maybe some lighter drum-n-bass (LTJ Bukem, Goldie's first record)

This is congenial and laid back a disc, with absolutely nothing standing out. The first track has a bit of spice to it, as well as track 7, but besides that it's just placid beats and occasional melodies or vocals. Lounge 2 had the great "What's Your Number" by Ian Pooley, the change of pace Ming & FS in the middle, and some better Fila Brazilla. This...well there are many other better discs out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars A definition of lounge ...., March 2, 2000
This review is from: OM Lounge, Vol 3 (Audio CD)
I actually find this Om Lounge a little more stimulating than the previous two. Whilst the previous incarnations have been smooth and drift along happily. 3 haunts you, you have to play it again and again, the variety of tracks is superb, it opens other musical avenues in your head, and yet the tracks still form a co-herant album.

3.0 out of 5 stars Om 1 & 2 are better, April 14, 2000

this one is a strange one. still some good tracks, but a little too ambient...if you know what I mean. Just when you're getting into it there is a big jazz interlude. I like a little jazz but this is crazy. This one is more of a lable showcase than a continuous DJ mix which is what Om 1 & 2 were like.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best OM compliation, November 7, 2001

I have all of the OM compilations and, for me, this is still the stand-out. More than just your typical "future lounge" assortment, this has a nice range of tempos and styles.

Major grooves on the 3rd edition of Om Lounge. Not nearly as good as volumes 1 and 2. I would give it four stars if I hadn't already heard volumes 1 and 2.

Excellent ambient music. Perfect background for a party!

4.0 out of 5 stars I Still Love This Volume, July 30, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: OM Lounge, Vol 3 (Audio CD)
After all this time, I still find myself listening to this. If I'm in a grey, chilled out sort of mood, I'll pop it in. Especially in the dog days of winter if I'm in town or simply at home having a drink with a friend. It's perfect for the grind, the cold, the atmosphere to me.

This is the third of the Om Lounge series which spans at least 8 volumes. I never got into the entire series - I was woefully disappointed with the last one. But this one... I still love it. There are some beats on here that hook me. I can understand how others might not rate this as highly - its not necessarily the most original of releases from the time frame it came out (2000). But as I type this, I'm listening to Kevin Yost's "Drums Delicious" and immediately think of that winter when I "discovered" this cd while downtown visiting friends. The beat in it is consistent and has a sort of soulful sample in the background. Other key tracks were King kooba's Kobesq which may seem like a cliche'd sound by todays style, and Fila Brazillia's rather basic "Airlock Homes". But not to be outdone is Soulstice (not to be confused with bossa maestros Soulstance) with "Tenderly". Chaser's cut seems puts the sight of a NY breakdancer in your head when that beat comes on... pretty fresh! My favorite track is People under the Stairs with "Schooled in the Trade", a cut tailor made to have lyrics freestyled over.

All in all, if you're just getting into Om Lounge, this is a great place to start. But of course this is about 4 years old, and there have been many many many more lounge cd's made, and the sound has changed - and to be honest, this is more of a beats styled cd than lounge, in my honest opinion. Check out "Get into the Martini Mood vol 1" for some lounge cuts, and if you dig this, you might like the rest of the Om Lounge series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Soulfullfunkavibraphonic!, September 13, 2000
By
This review is from: OM Lounge, Vol 3 (Audio CD)
...track 13 on its own is worth the price of admission. What were those people doin' under the stairs anyway? Must have been having a soulfullfunkavibraphonic time! The music flows throughout this entire CD without becoming monotonous or too repetitive. If variety is the spice to life, you will enjoy the flavor this CD will add to your acidzjazz collection. In the meantime keeping lovin' life and getting your funk on! With Peace.

4.0 out of 5 stars it's pretty hip, December 14, 2005

It's got a handful of good tunes, otherwise it's forgetable background music. There's definitely better lounge out there elsewhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent, November 12, 2000

This is the best cd of the series (1,2,3,4) till now. Very relaxing, I have the other three cd's too. But this one is most of the time in my cd-player.
