4.0 out of 5 stars Best to purchase from connecto for education, January 10, 2011
This review is from: ONMUSIC APPRECIATION 3.0 (DVD)
This product is cheaper if purchased directly from the publisher. Do not purchase a used copy -- you must have a new copy with access codes that have not been used. It was $109 from publisher with free shipping.

1.0 out of 5 stars You are forced to buy this book by Santa Monica College, January 24, 2012

Hojat (Sherman Oaks) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ONMUSIC APPRECIATION 3.0 (DVD)
It is frustrating to see how colleges force students in this economy to purchase brand new and not used books. As a SMC student I was forced to buy this book brand new, otherwise I wouldn't be able to attend the class; even on their official website at [...] it specifically states "

WARNING: DO NOT BUY USED COPIES OF THE COURSE DVD.

You can purchase the DVD for this course that is titled OnMusic Appreciation, third edition at the Front Desk of the SMC Bookstore, at the SMC Performing Arts Campus Bookstore, or order it online directly from Connect4Education in advance of start date of the class. You may only use new, unopened DVDs of the Third Edition. The second edition and previously used DVDs will not work. You will not be able to order it from other online vendors. Be sure to save the enclosed serial number slip that contains your own unique access code. Each DVD has a unique access code that is exclusive to each individual student enrolled in the course. That access code is linked to the Student College ID and records for each semester. Therefore, you will NOT be able to share the DVD and access code with another student who is currently in the class. There is no 'paper text' book for this class so please do not try to purchase the textbook and CDs that are used for our Music 32 ground classes."

Is this what education is all about? It is clearly another unjust and unethical way of making money.
Students should be allowed to buy used books/DVDs as long as the content has not SIGNIFICANTLY been changed.

As a community college, Santa Monica college needs to review its priorities and ensure all students from every economic class have a fair chance to participate in education. Education should not be just for the wealthy.
