I was looking for a decent wetsuit to get me through the colder months here in New Jersey, but cheap is not a part of comfort and quality. Luckily for me, the Large Short size was on sale for $142.00, and to not get it would be a sin. What I did sacrifice is the rear zipper that most wetsuits designs have. Those are the easiest to get in and out of, where as this one is designed to be as seamless as possible. It takes a little practice to don and doff the suit and the warmth and quality is unsurpassed. If I bought it at full price, it wouldn't change my opinion.

Ingress and egress becomes an exercise requiring such precise anatomical awareness and physical control bordering on mystical, that it becomes sort of a Shaolin Monk meditation; not exactly that of a contortionist inserting themselves completely into a 3-foot lucite cube on the old Ed Sullivan Show, but close enough. It helps to know that O'Neill claims that the neoprene of the Mutant stretches 110%, meaning that 10 inches of rubber stretches to 22 inches maximum, which is key to understanding how to get into it. That, and making sure the suit is dry to begin with and liberal doses of wet suit powder. I'm still not sure if I can get in or out without the help of my wife or a close male friend, wouldn't want to ask a stranger at a beach parking lot for help, but it helps to have assistance at critical points such as getting your arms in and up over your shoulders. Once in, though, the absolute brilliance of the design, materials and construction are obvious, it is the warmest and most comfortable suit I've owned in 30+ years of surfing. The lack of a back zipper and resultant maximum stretch of the rubber will astound you; paddling, standing, bending, all become freer than I've ever experienced. The zip hood and strategically placed sealing beads almost make it a dry suit. The best!

mutant wetsuit,

i like this wetsuit a lot, its very warm, although i personally have a hard time donning and doffing it. but what is awesome if you stand up paddle surf or maybe longboard and its not frigid, you can take the neck gasket off for an ultra comfy suit that gets really cold when you go under.
