4.0 out of 5 stars Essential for the novice or experienced storyteller
This book details aspects of storytelling in the dark adventure genre. It gives an assortment of ideas for the storyteller to use in his games. Details of how to create rich settings and characters to fill them are primary assets of this book. There are beginnings of several story ideas that can be customized for play. 3.0 out of 5 stars Nice if you can get it
The book itself I could take or leave but it is a nice tool if you are new game master type. The important stuff was the just after the fact information on what happened to the Mage world directly after the Ascension Warrior trilogy and how to work that into your game -- Stuff that should have been in the Revised ed of Mage but was not. If you don't need tips on how to...

4.0 out of 5 stars Essential for the novice or experienced storyteller, January 26, 1999

This review is from: *OP Tales of Magick 1 (Mage: The Ascension) (Paperback)
This book details aspects of storytelling in the dark adventure genre. It gives an assortment of ideas for the storyteller to use in his games. Details of how to create rich settings and characters to fill them are primary assets of this book. There are beginnings of several story ideas that can be customized for play. Even for experienced storytellers, there may be useful items that may have been forgotten or never thought of.

The book is useful not only for the Mage setting (although it is primarily geared that way) but for the other White Wolf settings as well. All of the information included in this book is part of what should have been included in the Storyteller's guide.

The only drawback is that this book only covers the dark adventure. Hopefully, more books of this quality and content will be released for different types of stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good solid book that seems to leaves something desired, March 8, 2000

This review is from: *OP Tales of Magick 1 (Mage: The Ascension) (Paperback)
This book is an excellent resource for storytellers of all stripes. It gives clear and concise examples of what could be done with a game like Mage. My only compliant is that, like so many of White Wolf's books, it gets you intrested but then doesn't follow through. I know one of the precepts of the Storyteller System is that you should let your creativity run free. However for the inexpeirenced storyteller (myself included) the book doesn't give you everything you might want to feel comfortable starting a chronicle. For a game like Mage that is big piecce missing from the puzzle!

If you don't need tips on how to organize a game or need to know the deeper details of the background fabric, you don't need this book. If you care about that stuff... it's nice if you can get it.
