5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the black shatter/crackle polishes May 16, 2011
Color Name:Black Shatter
Having used shatter or crackle polish by OPI, LaRosa and China Glaze, I have some basis for comparison. They all work, it's your subjective taste that matters. The LaRosa shatter pattern is sort of a random pattern. The China Glaze is more like a snakeskin shaped pattern. In my opinion, the OPI is the nicest - it's clean and geometric, like tiny parallel rectangles.

The OPI is easiest to work with too. It's got a less gloppy or thick formula, so it goes on more cleanly, and shatters more intricately. It's a true black, nice and dark, covering any base coat well. It's too bad OPI came out of the gate with the black and has been slow about other colors. Fortunately other manufacturers have stepped more quickly into the blooming shatter market.

If you haven't used a crackle or shatter polish, please read on. These are a lot of fun, and look great. It makes me crazy when I see reviews of disappointed people saying "It didn't work" and you can usually tell they either didn't get directions with the product, or didn't read them.

The point of crackle polish is to use two colors which contrast. You apply a base coat of regular nail polish, and then paint the crackle polish on top, which shrinks as it dries to expose the base color. Thus, whatever you choose for your base should be a color that will contrast nicely with the color of crackle you have. The more different the colors (light and dark) the more obvious the pattern will be.

Crackle polish will NOT work on your naked nail- as it dries it shrinks and it needs a smooth dry surface to shrink across.

The key is to put the crackle polish on when the base color is COMPLETELY dry. Then it will "shatter" correctly.

5.0 out of 5 stars What's Old is New Again January 14, 2008
Color Name:Siberian Nights|Amazon Verified Purchase
This polish is a deep-purple-edging-towards-black color which comes as close as you can get to the famous Chanel "Media" of the 90's. It's OPI, hence you're getting a nice bottle of polish for a not so large price that rivals the couture brands - not that most people could tell anyway. I love the whole OPI Russian collection. It has very retro colors that are "in" now so for "old" folks like me, it's nice to have my past made hip. Maybe I wasn't such an outcast after all - I was just cool before my time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very cool product - how do they do it?!?! February 6, 2011
By Lauren
Color Name:Black Shatter
I bought this product online when all the stores around me were sold out and I didn't want to wait to try it! You simply paint it on over another color (make sure it is REALLY dry or else it might not work correctly) and it looks black at first but then starts to separate into the crackle effect. It looks awesome, especially with white nail polish under! Check out my review coming soon on my blog too at [...] I am going to post a review soon with photos.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT! February 14, 2011
Color Name:Black Shatter
Bought it in person and just tried it last night. Absolutely LOVE IT!!! Did it on my toes but since you can't see it as good, it just looks messy unless you know about this. But definitely recommend this for fingers! Used one of the Katy Perry colors with it and it came out great. Can't wait to try it with other colors! Wish they would do the shatter in other colors too.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT AN OPI PRODUCT July 6, 2012
By LRK
Color Name:Congenality is My Middle Name|Amazon Verified Purchase
I ordered this product and when it was received the polish was completely separated. When I went to shack this product to mix the polish there was no rattle from the shaker ball. All OPI nail polishes contain a metal ball that helps to mix the polish. If a polish does not have one that means that the original polish is not in the bottle because the shaker has been dumped out. When I compared the color of the ordered polish to a bottle that is known to be genuinely OPI, the color was clearly off. I would not recommend this product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep and Beautiful September 24, 2008
Color Name:Siberian Nights
This a dark luscious color. It's OPI which is low on the chipping, the color lasts on average 4 days nicely with a clear coat about 5 before the ends show wear. This is beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome color!! May 5, 2008
Color Name:Siberian Nights
I was very pleased with my recent purchase of Siberian Nights by OPI. The color is deep and a bit mythical at the same time. I've received many compliments on the first time that I wore it. The service was very prompt and they also included samples!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Color, but literally sharp! October 28, 2011
Color Name:Gone Gonzo|Amazon Verified Purchase
OPI's 2011 Holiday "Gone Gonzo" is a clear polish with blue microglitter and large silver glitter in it. The affect is more like sequins from far away than a blue polish with diamond-like sparkles in it as it appears in the photos. This is not a blue polish. Basically, you are getting a smelly superglue with two colors and sizes of glitter in one bottle. The smell is nearly overwhelming. It smells like its vapor would explode if you lit a match anywhere near it.

The polish goes on nearly clear if thin layers are used. I found that repeated strokes on the same "coat" of polish to make a thicker coat added more glitter to the nail and meant less coats, but three coats were a minimum to cover the nail. The ends of my nails are nearly clear because the glitter does not stick well to the ends and sides of nails. The ends of my nails had to be filed AFTER I polished them in order to remove the razor-sharp edges that the larger glitter creates when it hangs off the end of the nail. I drew blood with my nails they were so sharp and ragged at the ends. Remember to let the polish dry completely and use a fine-grit file or emery board to prevent tearing of the glitter or nail.

Like "Crown Me Already" in the Miss Universe collection, this polish is extremely difficult to remove. I mentioned the smell...this really is like superglue! I used pure acetone and it takes 10-15 MINUTES to remove this polish. "Crown Me Already" took almost 30 minutes to remove.

Even though this stinks, is impossible to remove (you will find glitter in your cuticles for at least two polish changes to come) and is time-consuming to apply, I do like it. I expected the blue to be a bit deeper, but with the number of large silver sparkles in it it considerably lightens the overall "color" of the polish.
