Since I'm a 70 year old do it yourself kind of guy, I was attracted to the concept of "Treat Your Own Back". I did all the exercises prescribed in the McKenzy Book and got great results. I had to start slow because of the pain but improved rapidly after a few days.I would highly recommend this theropy to anyone who has or has had back pain in the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource!, December 27, 2010

This book, in conjunction with the physical therapy I received for my herniated disk, was extremely helpful in eliminating my symptoms. The book had a number of key insights, including always being aware of maintaining a lumbar curve, and resisting the temptation to slump down into a rolled-back position after a hard workout, as this is when the disks are at their most vulnerable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice short book on common sense for your back, August 19, 2011
This review is from: Treat Your Own Back (Health and Beauty)
This short book has been out a long time, so much of the material could now be thought of as "common sense", such as using lumbar support, sitting and lifting properly, correct posture, and stretching exercises. That said, I had good luck relieving my lower back pain by doing what the book said to do. Just to be reminded about how to care for my back, and detailed instructions on how to do so, made a difference, and was worth the price of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sciatica Recovery Aid, June 13, 2011

I first learned of this book from my Physical Therapist, during my second session for treating Sciatica. She gave it to me to read while I was on my back in traction. I immediately ordered the book, and found it extremely helpful. First, it enlightened me on what was going on with my lumbar spine, and then explained clearly the exercises needed to correct the problem. The book offered me much needed encouragement, and convinces the reader that, yes, you can treat (and heal) your own back. My thanks to the author, Dr. McKenzie.

I give this book to relatives and friends who have indicated a recent problem with back pain. Without exception significant improvement is reported to me.
I keep a spare copy on hand to give to someone who has an emergency. Personally, I follow the exercise routine on a regular basis to prevent back pain from returning.
