  • In addition to being beautiful, Milkweed is a very important plant because it is a host for the beloved MONARCH butterfly. Monarch larva feed exclusively on Milkweeds. That means if there is no Milkweed, there would be no Monarchs :( It is also an important nectar plant for bees and other insects. The common name Milkweed was given to this plant because of its milky juice. The scientific name comes from Asclepius, the Greek god of healing, because of the many folk-medicinal uses for the milkweed plants. The dried seed pods are also very interesting for dried arrangements.

Could you tell me why it does not come, or when it will arrive?

I am building a landscape that is both hopefully beautiful, but also environmentally friendly and of use to birds and butterflies, with good reseeding possibilities.

All of the other seeds I germinated indoors sprouted (vegetables) but these did not germinate.

I only planted about nine of these seeds because it was so late in the season, and I just wanted to try them out, but everyone of them is about two feet tall now and some are even getting flower buds on them. I really didn't think they would do so well, so late in the season. I am very happy and can't wait to see how many come back in the spring in time for the butterfly's.

Considering it can grow wild in harsh conditions I was surprised that it took a little more care in terms of water, soil grade germination and growth time than i expected to get them established. But beautiful plants.

I started my seeds in a little self-watering seed starter kit from Target. They are pushing up and becoming little seedlings now. It looks like the seeds are viable and healthy. The seedlings have just sprouted, so the rest is up to me.

Let's bring back the butterflies by planting these seeds. Butterflies are dependent on us to restore the abundance we enjoyed as children. Butterflies are getting scarce because we're not destroying their food source and habitat! Help bring back the beauties of nature. Blessings and peace, Sister Rose Therese

About 1/3 of them sprouted. With 30 seeds....at least I had some come up. Very sad about the Red Bee Balm though.... only 10 seeds were sent and none have sprouted.

I sure would like to have more than 30 seeds, but the few I planted have all sprouted successfully in a moisture dome. Can't wait to get a bunch of butterflies this year.

I am very concerned about creating a garden that is sustainable, easy to care for with minimal requirements for water and absolutely no chemicals. I am building a landscape that is both hopefully beautiful, but also environmentally friendly and of use to birds and butterflies, with good reseeding possibilities. I have had good success with this plant. I have 1/2 acre of flower beds and must also be conscious of care time involved. The supplies shipped promptly with perfect instructions. Very pleased
