Made the mistake of purchasing this product as a Xmas gift for my out-of-state ten year old niece. Twice. The first one arrived in a mangled box with paper thin padding, and the base had a huge crack all the way down the middle. But it was pretty, so I returned it and ordered it again (for more money this time-- the original vendor was out of stock.)

The second one arrived with just days to spare before the holiday. The large pieces were all intact, and it wasn't until it was all assembled that we unwrapped a badly split drawer. Rather than return the whole, heavy table again, I called the company, Ore International, and asked if they could send me a replacement drawer. The friendly customer service rep assured me that there would be no problem.

Well, there was. The drawer they sent was the wrong color. Wrong size. I called a second time and again was told that the correct piece would be shipped. So I gave the table with the broken drawer to my niece with an explanation that a new drawer was on its way.

Received a call from Ore International two days later. Oops. Turns out that the table I had been sold was a discontinued model (and no, I didn't pay less for the old, outdated version.) No drawers were available. My only recourse would be to send it back to Amazon.

Unfortunately, it was too late. Based on reassurances from Ore International representatives-- twice-- that they would take care of the problem and I would not have to return the whole table; it had been tightly assembled, the box thrown away and was now a two hour drive away at my niece's house.

So, I'm out $135, more than a little embarrassed at having given a broken gift that's not going to get fixed, and never even received the courtesy of a reply to a letter of compaint to the company president.

This would be a beautiful chess table if it had an ounce of quality too it. I've ordered two because of huge cracks in the wood and drawers. Both were defective, the second being worse than the first. Amazon shouldn't carry such junk as it gives them a bad name!

Update: was on sale again, so tried again - the table was easy to put together, really nice sitting in the living room, but missing the drawer knobs! We can't open the drawers very easily, hoping we can get replacements of just knobs sent.

Was extremely excited to order this table a month ago, but the Table Arrived Damaged -- the Base itself is a laminate that was cracked up the side with all this sawdust spilling out all over the box.

After waiting several weeks for my refund to credit so I could order it again (they wouldn't do an exchange due to the "return not their fault"), the pricing on the table is now more than when I purchased it... I hesitate to order again (at a higher price!) when it was damaged the first time around.

Since this was my first time buying furniture from amazon.com, I was curious to see how it would turn out. Any worry I had was needless. The table arrived in a timely manner and in good condition. It took between 30 and 60 minutes to assemble, but I have lousy tools and I'm not very good at using them. Someone with better tools and more skill could assemble it in 15 minutes, I think. In any case, it was easy to assemble. And the table looks sharp! It is a solid, sturdy piece, and I know it'll last for years.

UPDATE: bought another one - still thought it could be a very nice table and the price was right. 2nd time was the charm - table went together easily and is very nice for the price. The instructions are still awful, but after trying to put this together once, the 2nd time was much easier. Recommend if you are familiar with putting stuff together. If you are not experienced, spend more elsewhere, the instructions are still awful.. step 1, step 2, step 4... still no step 3.....

The table itself would be nice if the quality was decent. The pedestal stand bolts to the top by screwing into metal "grommets". However the grommets were stripped out and the top would not attach tightly. The top came off the 1st time we used the table!! The instructions are a joke - there are washers and lock washers included in the packaging, but they are not mentioned in the instructions. In fact the instructions are all pictures, no words and goes from step 1 to 2 to 4!!!

On the plus side the table FEELS heavy and might be OK if the grommets seat and the pieces lock together tightly. Glue would certainly help as would instructions written by someone who completed the 4th grade.

When we first put this together it would not align properly. It was off just a slight turn, which drove me nuts and proved to be the downfall of the table. We've had it for 3 years and our 10 year-old son and my father used it mostly. Though my 2 year also was very interested in playing with the chess pieces whenever they were out. (The pieces we bought didn't fit in the very thin drawers.) Moving it or leaning on it at all caused it to wiggle. Over time it was just so wobbly and lose it's become a hazard. We are tossing it in the morning. Plus, it arrived with a crack in the pole. We just didn't want to deal with the hazard of sending it back.

I gave it three stars be it is a very pretty cherry. It's heavy. And if you get one that's cut properly, I could see where it might last. It just didn't work out for our family.

I bought this as a Christmas gift. It arrived on the day promised and we are thrilled with the look and quality! Great table..great transaction!

Fast delivery. Love it! My son and I have already played chess on it!!! It's beautiful and matches the decor in my home. Easy to put together.
