3.0 out of 5 stars RAIN GAUGE
I HAVE HAD 2 OF THESE RAIN GAUGES AND CONSTANT TROUBLE WITH THE RAIN GAUGE PART. THE OTHER FUNCTIONS ARE GOOD AND THE TECHS AT THE MANUFACTOR WERE FRIENDLY AND ALLOWED ME TO RETURN THE 1ST WITH NO TROUBLE BUT THE SECOND WAS OUT OF WARRANTY WHEN IT STOPPED FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. I RATE THIS ITEM LOW BECAUSE OF THE RAIN GAUGE AND THE BATTERY CHANGING DIFFICULTY.

I am ordering my second Oregon Scientific rain gauge because the first pooped out after about seven years constant use. I mark it down for two reasons: 1-the difficulty of changing batteries because of all the small screws and 2-it is sometimes difficult to get the inside and outside units communicating with each other after battery changes(just keep pushing Reset and give it time). I purchased the LaCrosse weather station, but it never worked right so I am returning to Oregon Scientific. Nothing else on the market in the same price range looks as good and it really is a solid unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars on Scientific usually very good, September 10, 2010

I have this gauge set up 2 feet from a USWB gauge with a 10 inch diameter top made about 75 years ago. This remote is usually reports within 0.02 of an inch of the USWB gauge. Two gauges more that 50 feet appart will usually receive different amounts of rain, Mother Nature is not even handed.

The Temperature part is also very good and accurate. Three weeks of usuage.

The rain guage is great! checked it with the old fasioned one and is pretty reliable. I love that it has a history and I don't have to empty it every time it rains.

You put this nice looking rain gauge outside, set the wireless transponder anywhere and you're good to go. it measures rainfall to two decimals, empties itself, and records cumulative since the last clear, and I think it's 9 days you can scroll back to see daily rainfall. My only problem is that in the two months I've had it, it rained twice, once just .08 inch. I want a downpour, guess I'll have to wait until spring. It also tells temperature I think both indoor/outdoor (not sure, I've got another toy for that). My advice is that esp. for the price this is a very nice gadget. just four stars on durability because I haven't had it long. Reserving my judgment on that one.

Update: I took it in for the winter, carefully removing the batteries and storing it gently. Spring came, and it didn't work. I tried this that and the other, finally calling the company, executing the major resets and finally, because it was less than a year old, they replaced it without hesitation. They did suggest I put a can over it in the winter, which I will do, rather than bring it in.

So I'm nervous about longevity, but very pleased with the customer support.

Good product. Had one for years. This was to replace the outside unit which went bad.

This unit was easy to set up after I figured out where to put it so the sprinklers didn't hit it. I got it in time for all the rain we got in Southern Calif (OK a lot for us). It seems to be very accurate based on comparison to official rainfall reports. I like it a lot.

Having real time inside and outside temperatures available is great. The remote recording rainfall gauge is a bonus. It all works automatically; no rain gauge to empty. Two drawbacks of the product are the difficulty to replace batteries in the rain gauge and that you lose your accumulative rainfall amounts when you have to change batteries or reset the device.

I love this weather station.
It holds daily rain totals for 10 days in memory, droping the 10th day each night at nidnight.
It also keeps a yearly total.

Really upset with this product. Seller will not accept return because the product has been set up outdoors. (it's a rain guage for pete's sake). Oregon Scientific is hard to contact, and their "fix" will not work. And AMAZON will not talk to me about it. I have a hunch that this is the last business I will be doing with AMAZON.
