5.0 out of 5 stars A great little item!
I can't figure out why everyone doesn't LOVE this product. Maybe they didn't read the instructions. Properly positioned, it takes maybe 10 seconds to separate the fruit from the peel. I think the biggest trick is getting the right sized grapefruit to fit the blades perfectly. Too large and you have to dig the overage out. But it's truly a genius product. I never liked to...

1.0 out of 5 stars How to ruin a grapefruit in 3 easy steps.
Cut the grapefruit in half, use the corer to remove the center, place grapefruit on this cutter and completely smash the grapefruit with this tool. I tried it on 4 grapefruit halves and never got one good slice of grapefruit. Don't waste your money or time on this one.

I never liked to eat grapefruit before because it was too hard to get out. This makes it a breeze. LOVE it! REALLY!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works GREAT, once you figure it out, March 25, 2010

Like several other reviewers on here, I was a bit perplexed when I tried to slice my first grapefruit with the Orka cutter. I thought I had followed the instructions carefully, but I just ended up with a big mushy pile of grapefruit and lots of juice everywhere. But, many reviewers gave this thing four or five stars; what was I doing wrong?

It turns out that I was just being too delicate. After you remove the center with the included corer, you have to push the grapefruit ALL the way onto the cutter, to the point where the white plastic tip on the top of the cutter juts out through the center hole that you just created on the grapefruit. Ideally, you might even see the blade start to slice through the outside peel at that point.

Once the grapefruit is mounted firmly and securely, just give it a twist and voila! Perfectly sliced grapefruit sections. It really couldn't be easier.

So, for those of you who couldn't get it to work, just put a little oomph into it, and get that grapefruit on there nice and tight. Thank goodness it only took one mangled grapefruit for me to figure it out; now I'm on board with all the other positive reviews; this thing ROCKS!

This is one fantastic gadget! My wife bought me one years ago from a TV ad. It finally broke and my heart broke as well. Now I have finally found it here. I'm buying two in case one breaks or to give to an admiring friend. I would give it 5 stars if it were made of stainless steel and would not break. Nevertheless, it lasted for years! Now I can go back to eating grapefruit daily without any effort or mess.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ideal Tool, June 17, 2009
This review is from: Orka Grapefruit Cutter (Kitchen)
This is a great tool. I can fill a bowl with grapefruit segments from 4 or 5 grapefruits in a minute or so. Cleanup is easy. I have given several to people as gifts. I can't understand how anyone could give this item a negative review, but I guess some people can screw up anything.

I am one of those people who loves grapefruit, but hate to cut it up. All the sections and stuff to cut out, too much work for me. I love this grapefruit cutter. It has a tool that takes out the core in the middle and then you just twist the remaining grapefruit on the cutter and voila, just twist and the sections easily come loose. There is a cover you put over the grapefruit while on the cutter so you do not cut your hand. The cutter is very sharp, so be careful of that. But I love it and now can have grapefruit without all the work. L.Tafoya

Product works well if used correctly. Would have been ideal if parts were more sterdy as you tend to be a little afraid to press down on the grapefruit incase you break or crack any of the parts.

I was very skeptical when buying this product, thinking there is no way it is going to get the sections out of a grapefruit, but I hated cutting a grapefruit the manual way and was never very good at it. Admittedly, my first try was not good; I somehow managed to get the wedge cutter stuck in the base so that it would not turn, and as a result the fruit turned on top of the wedge and tore itself into many pieces. After noticing this and re-reading the instructions I made a perfect cut the 2nd time. Just make sure that the wedge cutter (white plastic part) is free to turn, push the grapefruit all the way onto the wedge (after removing the core), and turn the wedge and fruit combo one full turn. Voila! Perfect slices (they do include the membranes) and the bowl even doubles as an eating container for one. Nothing is wasted, and you even get all of the juice. What a marvelous invention!

I LOVE the grapefruit cutter. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it works.
As others have written you do want to put the grapefruit on really hard so the
white dome starts to poke through the grapefruit. It is quite a time saver and
well worth the price.
