Book Description

February 20, 2007
In this tenth volume of the popular Insights for a New Way of Living series, Osho examines the nature of compassion from a radically different perspective.  He points out that "passion" lies at the root of the word, and then proceeds to challenge assumptions about what compassion really is. Many so-called acts of compassion, he says, are tainted by a subtle sense of self-importance and desire for recognition. Others are based in the desire not really to help others but to force them to change. Using stories from the lives of Jesus and Buddha and the world of Zen, Osho shows how the path to authentic compassion arises from within, beginning with a deep acceptance and love of oneself.  Only then, says Osho, does compassion flower into a healing force, rooted in the unconditional acceptance of the other as he or she is.

Compassion includes an original, 120-minute talk by Osho on DVD. This visual component enables the reader to experience the direct wisdom and humor of Osho straight from the source.

More About the Author

Osho, known for his revolutionary contribution to the science of inner transformation, continues to inspire millions of people worldwide in their search to define a new approach to individual spirituality that is self-directed and responsive to the everyday challenges of contemporary life. The Sunday Times of London named him one of the '1,000 Makers of the Twentieth Century,' and novelist Tom Robbins called him 'the most dangerous man since Jesus Christ.' For more information about Osho and his work, please visit osho.com.

Osho's teachings defy categorization, covering everything from the individual quest for meaning to the most urgent social and political issues facing individuals and society today.

His unique "Osho Active Meditations" are designed to first release the accumulated stresses of body and mind, so that it is easier to experience the thought-free and relaxed state of meditation. (Meditation -The First and Last Freedom, by Osho)

About his own work Osho has said that he is helping to create the conditions for the birth of a new kind of human being. He has often characterized this new human being as "Zorba the Buddha" -- capable both of enjoying the earthy pleasures of a Zorba the Greek and the silent serenity of a Gautam Buddha.

Running like a thread through all aspects of Osho's work is a vision that encompasses both the timeless wisdom of the East and the highest potential of Western science and technology.

Osho has been described by the Sunday Times in London as one of the "1000 Makers of the 20th Century" and by American author Tom Robbins as "the most dangerous man since Jesus Christ."

4.0 out of 5 stars Blunt, to the point, yet effective, June 13, 2008
This review is from: OSHO Compassion: The Ultimate Flowering of Love (Osho: Insights for a New Way of Living) (Paperback)
To not only learn what compassion truly means, but to become one with it is no small order. Osho takes you down this path effortlessly and enjoyably. His blunt, candid delivery may make your toes curl at times.

However, you will most certainly appreciate his openness and attention to details. If you've ever wondered how to cultivate limitless compassion for all beings then this book is certainly for you. If you've also been unsure what compassion really means, this book will dispel any myths in that regard.

Just remember that Osho is not for the faint of heart.

The Zen monks have a tea ritual whereas one is totally immersed in the moment sipping tea with full awareness, sipping a little bit at a time, enjoying the flavor, enjoying the aroma. I recommend that you treat this book as such, reading a few pages at a time so you can absorb the insights a little bit at a time, giving yourself time to truly appreciate what Osho has to say. I read a few pages in the early morning when my mind is still fresh, clear and when I can still appreciate this gift.
