For some reason, while the Masterclass books are all in print, they are not usually available through Amazon, or if they are, they cost more than the standard $22.00 per volume price.
This book is solid, like all of them. I had to buy a second copy to keep my daughter from stealing mine. The author is a legend. Undefeated for his entire nine year international career, he built his Judo around Osoto-Gari and could throw it from any place, in any situation, often in combination with Uchimata. He details solo drills, the basics of the throw and many entries and variations. If you've decided to compete in Judo, you will need to understand, use and defend against Osoto-Gari. Obviously you will need an instructor and hundreds of hours on the tatami mats, but this book is an excellent book. So far there is nothing else, before this book or after it, that provides this kind of detail on this throw. |
