Base broke within 2 weeks, lousy customer service,

I bought this blender because of its all-metal drive train after the drive gear of my previous Kitchenaid blender wore out. After reading other reviews of people who have had theirs for 27 years, I decided this was the blender for me. Despite the all-metal drive, the base of the jar is still plastic and cracked within a few weeks.
This has now led me to an experience with Oster's lousy customer service. Oster's automated customer service line merely refers you to a local service center. I could not talk to a human. The service center, in this case Gourmet Depot in San Francisco, can only replace the unit after I ship it to them at my own expense. I expect companies to pay shipping for their own warranty returns. The grand irony is that it turned out to cost me less just to buy the replacement part from Gourmet Depot and have them ship it to me. Yes, it is loud, certainly louder than my previous blender. Then again all blenders are so loud as to halt a conversation.

I bought this as a replacement for another make that I only had for 1 year before the plastic blender "cup" started to crack & leak. The other well known company would not replace it thru their customer service & the cost was over $50. So I decided to switch brands and am truly pleased with the quality of this Oster. Very well made, and works like a charm! Would recommend Oster to anyone who'd like one to last for a long time! Had one before & won't switch again.
