Buying this on Amazon was the cheapest I could find it. There's just no great deal to be had. You actually can install and remove the rocker arms without this tool, just using a screwdriver. But I wanted to have the correct 4V tool. The 2V tool works easier for the exhaust valves. The 2V tool is definitely cheapest on Amazon.

To use this tool correctly, you...

2.0 out of 5 stars The new version of this tool stinks
I called OTC and they sell a new version of this tool, same model. If you do a google search many stores will show the new picture. It is based on the Ford tool 303-567. According to them, all new sales should be the new version. It is uncertain if Amazon has old stock.

I called OTC and they sell a new version of this tool, same model. If you do a google search many stores will show the new picture. It is based on the Ford tool 303-567. According to them, all new sales should be the new version. It is uncertain if Amazon has old stock.

The new tool bends at 90 degrees instead of being straight, and has a raised area where the socket is placed (instead of being flat). There is much cam cap interference and it adds tons of frustration to an already difficult job. The tool may not even work when centered on the cam, you may have to offset it a bit to account for the obnoxious raised area.

You must use this new tool with a long horizontal 3/8 extension or the socket head will lock onto the cam cap. This is what happened with my 95 4.6L engine. It is less of an issue with the 32V engine but its still very awkward. I don't know about later years, but it is suggested for all modular engines. The tool got two stars because it works great on the center valves where there is no cam retainer.

These tools are designed by Ford. I don't know why they would change a good design into something that is practically unusable.

To use this tool correctly, you place it on the cams NEXT to the lobe, not centered over the lobe. Use the ratchet or breaker bar on the same side of the tool as you position the swivel foot, for the best angle, which keeps the tool from sliding on the cam and scratching it.

1.0 out of 5 stars will not work on a 4 valve ford motor., July 1, 2009
This review is from: OTC 7928 Valve Spring Compressor Tool for Ford (Automotive)
This tool will only work on a two (2) valve motor. It will not work on a 4.6. 4v (a 4 valve) motor. The advertizement says it will work on a 4.6.2v, 4.6.4v. or a 5.4.4v. However it says on the factory packaging it is for use on 4.6 2 valve ford motor.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT tool for the job, June 21, 2009
This review is from: OTC 7928 Valve Spring Compressor Tool for Ford (Automotive)
This tool instantly turns a very difficult job into a very easy job. it simply hooks right around each cam lobe and with a simple pull back, you can pop the rocker right off and do any work in there you need to. DO NOT try this job with a screwdriver or pry bar!!! Just get the tool, you'll be very happy you did!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not typical OTC quality, August 16, 2010

This review is from: OTC 7928 Valve Spring Compressor Tool for Ford (Automotive)
Let me preface this by stating, I don't own the tool, however my father does and he and I have been working on overhauling the top end on my 03 Explorer 4.6 2V engine and we were using this tool in the process of both disassembly and assembly of the heads. The design of this tool is not optimal as it places the fulcrum in the wrong location and thus in turn you cannot apply even spring pressure in order to get the valve keepers in place when assembling. You also run the risk of damaging the valve stem in the process. The KD tool that was 1/2 the price worked better for the task at hand during reassembly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Changed it and then it worked, July 22, 2010
This review is from: OTC 7928 Valve Spring Compressor Tool for Ford (Automotive)
I think it might work out of the box on a lot of trucks but not mine. IN the process of changing it you had to snap the pin out so I can't return the item, plus once you open the package they will not allow you to return it. Had to be modified even though it supposedly was for my Nissan Pathfinder.

Had to be modified even though it supposedly was for my Explorer. Might have been able to use some other device that would of cost much less. IN the process of modifying you had to break the pin out so I can't return the item, plus once you open the package they will not allow you to return it.

5.0 out of 5 stars valve spring compressor, February 23, 2008
This review is from: OTC 7928 Valve Spring Compressor Tool for Ford (Automotive)
Tool saves a lot of time if you dont want to remove the heads but need to replace valve springs/rockers/lifters/valve seals. Can be a little tough depending on how much room is under the hood, but it works great!
