Product Description

The OTC 7509 is the puller you need for constant velocity (CV) joint work on many Ford cars. It pulls CV joints on 1986-current Taurus/Sable. Also, it pulls other joints having hidden retaining rings. With the slide hammer, it will remove an axle assembly from the transaxle, expensive aluminum transmission cases or other components without causing damage. This is handy to have and easy to use.

This tool provides the perfect solution to a difficult-to-remove CV joint, however the fork at the end did not fit behind the axle in my 2001 Ford Focus. I will keep the tool because it's basically a slide hammer anyway and I can use other attachments with it.

I used this CV puller on a 2004 Intrepid. It did the job. I had tried using pry bars but after a few nicks in the soft aluminum transmission case I stopped. It took a few slides to remove the CV axle. I would recommend buying an extension with this puller. I could have used the extension. I managed without it but later I ordered one.

What happens is the hammer needs room to slide and ram again the stop. It is more difficult when the unit is inside the fender area and suspension components are are interfering with movement of the sliding hammer. The puller has to be aligned as much as possible in parallel with the the CV axle. This gives you a straight pull rather than an offset.

Anyway, the CV joint puller is a quality tool. It should last many years. I would buy this again. I have no connection with any company. This is my opinion of this tool. Good luck.

The slide hammer is somewhat crude. The slide fits very loosely on the shaft, and is not a precision fit; the hole in the slide is much too oversized compared to the shaft diameter. The slide portion is also rough cast throughout, including the hole. As for the foot at the end, it needed to be ground thinner to work in my application. But in the end it did the job, so I'm happy.

I should have paid more attention to the youtube video and got this before I started trans servicing (4T65E). This tool popped the drive shaft right out. Whereas screw drivers, crow bars and pry bars only caused gouges in the trans cover and much cussing.

Much better than trying to use a pry-bar to pop the axles out. Tried this with a 2000 Impala and it still took some effort but at least I knew I was using the right tool for the job and not risking damage to the transmission case. Plus I now have a slide hammer which I can buy other attachments for.
