2.0 out of 5 stars Totally implausible even for a romance, December 15, 2009
Where to begin? How about a synopsis of the story.

Cara Waters works for a pharmaceutical company that is on the edge of creating some cutting edge medicines. She is basically an office manager for the Research and Development section. She has a macho, ex-football player boyfriend named Buck. She complains to Buck that she keeps seeing one of the R and D scientists, Dave Burkhart and thinks he is following her. Buck basically says she is imagining it. They are suppose to go on a romantic weekend to New Orleans, but at the very last minute Buck switches their tickets to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Cara is excited because so far her romance with the gorgeous Buck has not gone beyond a kiss or two. She feels once they are in romantic Mexico he will propose and they will live happily ever after.

Instead....

Now that Buck and Cara are in romantic Puerto Vallarta Buck is acting strange. She gets kidnapped by Dave Burkhart. And to sum the rest of the book up--she and Dave are kidnapped and kidnapped and kidnapped. Really, how many times can you be kidnapped in one book?

The basic plot which has to do with the theft of pharmaceutical formula is plausible, but the rest of the book is not. Buck is incredibly one dimensional and there is a twist in his feelings for Cara that a savvy romance reader can probably see coming from a mile away. And of course, there is the legend of the other half of your heart--so who is it for Cara? Dave or Buck? As a reader you won't trust Buck one inch from the beginning of the story, so that leaves Dave.

The plot is totally implausible aside from the formula. The characters aren't defined and developed enough for you to care about who ends up with whom. I found myself just turning pages faster and faster to get through the mess. Is it the worst book I've ever read? No. However, it was a really lukewarm read.
